Rating: Summary: Couldn't put it down! Review: This book was one of the most engrossing books I have read in a long time. It really kept me guessing, and that's pretty tough for me to do (when there's a mystery involved, I can usually guess the solution before its revelation). I had not read the previous books in this series (though I am doing so now, thanks to this book), but it was easy to follow and very enjoyable despite that. What's most intriguing about this book is that there are three female leads! You might think that would be confusing, but I did not find it to be. The book begins with a bank robbery and brutal massacre, and our two main heroes are trying to determine which of the three female leads is the star witness (and thus in terrible danger). I can honestly say I did NOT guess correctly, and I definitely was not expecting the plot twists and turns. I literally could not stand to be away from this book for three days, and it got so bad that I was reading it at stop lights in my car! (Shame on me!) This was my first Julie Garwood book, and it was worth reading. I enjoyed all of the characters, and found that she did a good job of balancing the three different story lines, and bringing them together. My only regret is that, because there were three different "plots", she was not able to develop all the characters as much as I would have liked. For that reason, I probably would give it 4 1/2 instead of five stars. However, that did not detract from my enjoyment of the book. I highly recommend this. To help you determine if YOU might like this book as much as I did, my tastes are such that my favorite authors are Jude Devereaux and Catherine Coulter.
Rating: Summary: Somewhat entertaining.... no regrets! Review: After reading some of the reviews here in Amazon about this book, I was a bit hesistant in starting it. However, I felt obligated as it is part of the series. Afterall, I started the book, For the Roses, which is the first novel of the Clayborne series & which was also one of my favorite J.G. books. I read it with open mind. I actually didn't even expect much out of this book because of the reviews. I guess you can say I didn't want to be disappointed. In the end, the book wasn't too bad. Perhaps because I was prepared for it? Though I must admit, I had to skip some parts to get to the point. I had to "read-through" some pages as I find some scenes dragging. Mind you, the action twist was interesting. The suspense and the excitement of finding out who the true witness is and the three beautiful female leads, which was all uniquely described. I just wished this book was more of Cole and the Clayborne family since this is what the series started out to be. I also prefer ROMANTIC & LOVE scenes. I find this book more of an action scenes - robbery, murder, crime scenes. It's just not for me. But... like i said, it wasn't too bad. It's still entertaining. I finished the book so that is an indication that it wasn't dreadfully boring. If you started "For the Roses", then you must go through with the whole program. No regrets!
Rating: Summary: Okay Ending to the Claybournes Review: Let me tell you up front, if you are looking for more of the Claybourne's in this book, you will not get it. The focus of "COMES THE SPRING" is capturing the Blackwater Gang. We start off with the bank robbery scene, and the identity of the witness is a mystery. Julie does a very good job in hiding who the witness is, until it is revealed. We finally get the story of Cole Claybourne, the most "rough" of the Claybourne brothers. Cole is made into a U.S. Marshal by Marshal Daniel Ryan, who supposedly stole his compass from Mama Rose. Little is known about the compass that causes Cole to search for Ryan, and this plot does not follow in the book. I thought Jessica and Grace were very good heroines. Jessica was really the perfect match for Cole, loving and in need of his care. The baby, Caleb, was also very adorable throughout the book. Grace was the exact opposite of Daniel Ryan's first wife, which proved to be a challenge to the Marshall to figure her out. While I enjoyed the chemistry with Grace and Daniel, I was a little disappointed that Cole did not have a story all to his own. I thought his character deserved more. Overall "COMES THE SPRING" is a good end to the series. I would recommend it to anyone who has followed the Claybournes since "FOR THE ROSES." Mama Rose's speech at the end did not bother me, as it did some reviewers, because we really don't hear a lot from her, but we know she has been behind the meddling. Definitely read this book, it's worth the time.
Rating: Summary: A hard-to-read "must read" Review: I looked forward to reading this book for some time. It is the final installment in the "For the Roses" series. I was disappointed that it did not keep with the style of the preceding books in this series. The explicitly graphic violence at the beginning of the book is disturbing and nothing like the stories preceding. This overshadows the plot. There are some stunning plot twists and I was unable to put the book down. However, I was disappointed that Ms. Garwood changed her style just at the end of a delightful series. To date Julie Garwood's style has been romantic, humorous and upbeat. None of her stories have had the same plot. Like many of her contemporaries, she is attempting a more gritty, hardcore style. While she does this in a riveting manner and she has a right to grow as a writer, it is a letdown to the faithful readers who made her a bestselling author. Perhaps Ms. Garwood and her fellow romance-turned-action writers should use a different pen name for different sytles. This book is a "must read" for the Garwood fan. It does bring closure to the Clayborne saga. But it is not a comfortable closure.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful End To The Claybournes Review: I love For The Roses. I cherish The Claybourne Brides. I absolutely adore Come The Spring! Cole was always by favorite Claybourne, and I am glad that he got a whole book dedicated to him (although the other brothers would have been fabulous in their own books also). The three women who were thought to be witnesses were each unique, and it is thoroughly puzzling as to who the real witness is and who the bad apple is. And, we finally get to meet Daniel Ryan, the man haunting the Claubournes ever since the Bride Trilogy. He was certinly a match for Cole. The characters were three dimensional, so much so that it seemed like you were watching a movie rather then reading a book. Julie Garwood is wonderful at writing suspense, and I hope she goes back to it sometime in the future. As always, the romance was dazzeling. If you've read any of the books in the series, you'll miss out on a real treat if you don't read this one.
Rating: Summary: so enjoyable! Review: I really enjoyed the character of Cole from the first books. I am glad I have my own copy of Come the Spring in hardcover. It is just so enjoyable. I am pleased. The only reason I do not give it a five is there are a couple of predictable moments, but they are enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: Loved this series! Review: I absolutely loved the Clayborne series. I just finished Come the Spring, and as always, Garwood kept me intrigued from start to finish. I never want to put her books down and find myself sneaking at work to catch a quick chapter at my desk!! Come the Spring had excellent twists and I loved the chemistry between Cole and Jessica/Grace and Daniel. The scenes with Cole and Caleb were especially endearing to me, being a single mother. Garwood appeals to the romantic in me every time! This was no exception. This is a must read, especially if you have read the four other Calyborne novels. It brings everything full circle!
Rating: Summary: Good, but missing something Review: While I'm not a huge Western romance fan, I could see that Come the Spring has merit. Most of the characters, the men at least, seemed quite real and likeable, even amusing at times. But the women felt lacking, which seems strange since they were crafted by a woman, but that's the way they came across. I enjoyed reading about Cole, especially his interaction with the baby, Caleb, but didn't cheer with him over his pick of women. I don't know, but I think I will try reading another of Garwood's books. Though her dialogue could use improvement, she has a lot of talent and it's obvious why she's so popular. I just didn't feel this book was everything it could have been.
Rating: Summary: I love Julie! Review: Her books are awsome! She is one of the top romance writter in my book I have read 17 of Julie Garwood's novels and she astounds me every time I read a new one. I suggest if you want to read this book start with the book "For the Roses" then go onto read "One Pink Rose", "One white Rose", and "One Red Rose" and then read "Come the Spring" These books are all about the Claybourne family and how they strived to survive raising an abandoned baby that they found in New York and turning her into a lady. After their little Mary Rose is grown up and Married to a highland Lawyer named Harrison each brother is tempted by women into settling down will the brothers run or face the destiny that MAMA Rose tricks them into. I am so happy that they decided to give Cole a bigger book about his story. He is my favorite out of the Clayborne brothers so I thought that he deserved a longer story. Cole is lead on an exciting adventure by a US Marshall so that he can get the gold compass back that he took from MAMA Rose at a train station hoping that Cole would try to get it back. Cole doesnt understand the US Marshals intentions until its too late. I love this story it a gotta read by any Julie fan.
Rating: Summary: a sensational sexy showdown Review: Cole Clayborne is a handsome, sweet, tough, Montana man who's finally caught up with that no-good-compass-stealing-thief: Daniel Ryan. Cole and Daniel eventually "join" forces to catch a low-down-rotton group of criminals ... and wouldn't you know it: three women lead them a merry chase, and unwittingly both men find love along the way. Julie Garwood proves again that her wonderfully sweet style of writing always produces 'simply the best' in romantic literature. A sequel to "For the Roses" and "One white rose, one red rose, one pink rose", Cole Clayborne's tale is most satisfying and is definitely worth the read, again and again! In four words: a sensationally sexy showdown
