Review: Nice and mysterious read, I was so engaged by this mystery plot and had to think hard about the story. I enjoyed every page even if it wasn't unlike anything I'd read before. I guessed who the culprit was but then I always do in mystery novels! :+)

Review: I became a fan of this writer a few years ago. She writes stories that I enjoy getting lost in. Her characters are always a lot of fun and Ms. Howard has never disappointed me. She's a writer you can count on every time.

Summary: PASS THE KLEENEX
Review: Wow. This is a powerful story and a departure from Ms. Howard's latest lighter books. I miss the humor but the story is too good to quibble. Of course the book is too short - I wanted more interaction and character development between Milla and Diaz - but that's the way I feel about ALL of Ms. Howard's books. I never want them to end because they are so good and I have to wait a year for another one. I'll end on my usual note: A western, please, Ms. Howard (or another period piece like SON OF THE MORNING). Come on, you know you want to write one!

Review: Milla had a good life with her husband and infant son. It was all taken away in a moment that was to become the second that defined her existance. On the darkest day of her life, Milla was stabbed and her son taken by a group of child smugglers. Only two things can even halfway be considered comforting - a white child would be well cared for due to the high demand for them and she was able to put out the eye of the monster who stole her baby. Ten years pass, and during them, Milla's purpose gains focus. Perhaps her own son is lost, but she can help others find their missing loved ones. It is something of a balm, seeing other's joy at reuniting, when she has lost not only her child, but her marriage and friendly relations with her family. Then, hope is reborn. Milla makes contact with Diaz, a bad man who might be able to track down the scum who wrecked her life. Working with him is nerve wracking. Diaz is everything she should avoid, and everything she needs. In his arms, Milla's tears begin to dry. But, there is someone out there who wants revenge for his lost eye. If Diaz can't protect her, Milla will find herself scattered across Mexico. *** Linda Howard, the author who gave us Mr Perfect, once more chills readers in this fast paced novel that takes us through a whole range of feelings. Review: I am a major Linda Howard fan. I have bought most of her novels. This is a pretty good story, very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it.

Summary: One of My Favorite Howard Books
Review: The book opens with a heartstopping account of a woman's infant literally being ripped from her by kidnappers in a market in Mexico. She fights the men with desperation and ends up nearly dying from a stab wound and loses her baby. We then move ten years ahead. Milla has lost her marriage to her devotion to finding her child. She has little more in her life than the organization she's founded to locate missing persons. She is estranged from family who tell her to give up and get on with her life. Milla is tireless in her fight to find Justin and while she's had nothing but dead ends and heartache in her own struggle, she's managed to find other people's children and family members so often she's become something of a national celebrity for it. There are interesting turns here and there. The one eyed man she's looking for in connection with the ring of kidnappers to find infants in Mexico and smuggle them into the US and Canada for adoption seems to be the key. Of course, he's not too happy with the woman who clawed his eye out and destroyed his face and has some of his own vengeance in mind. Add to this, a bounty hunter with his own agenda and secretive background, a business man who isn't what he seems, double crossing friends and a bit of romance and lots of intrigue and it makes for one of Linda Howard's most compelling and certainly her most emotionally wrenching books. Not to give any spoilers but about halfway through I'd figured out some of the whodunits and I was slightly disappointed to see that a few bits and pieces pretty central to the story were left hanging. Overall though, this is a really good suspense novel, not Howard's usual more romance oriented book, although there is romance and a non-traditional happy ending. I like to see that Howard is stretching herself, moving past her own genre and doing it really well.

Review: Believe it or not--this is Linda's best book ever in my humble opinion. At least it is if you like some depth to your romance novel.

Summary: I HATED TO SEE THIS BOOK END SO MUCH I READ IT TWICE
Review: I was intrigued to see how Linda Howard would handle a parent's worst tragedy--with a lot of realism was what I found. Milla and David are happily married and very much in love, a love that produces a son, Justin. When he was six weeks old, Justin is stolen from his mother's arms. What ensues is a single minded quest to find him by a heartbroken but determined mother, and the financing to do so by a distraught father. The lparents divorce (there really was no other way to write that relatinship) and Milla finds herself the executive director of an association that finds missing people, particularly children. She's so good at it, you would think that she would have found her own son by now--As the mysterious Diaz points out to her as they are tracking down some leads together. She realizes he is right and quits confiding in her only friends that remain from that turbulent time in her life. At the end of the road she finds quasi-betrayal, real betrayal, true friend, true love and her son, safe and happily growing up--his adoptive parents having no idea of the tragedy that happened for them to raise him. As she grieves the final loss of her son, Milla realizes there was no way Diaz could have known what she would do because she wasn't sure herself and as she shows him her forgiveness she realizes that not only does she love him but he loves her with allof his being. I would have loved to know more about Diaz and more about the criminal ring that so hurt Milla but all in all, it was a very satisfying read.

Summary: Romance in disguise
Review: If you read this as a romance, it is more appealing than if you expect it to be a nail-biting thriller. There were no real surprises and significant ends (ie True and Susanna) were left flying in the breeze. The central story ~ searching for a stolen child ~ was great but could have been more powerfully presented without the numerous undeveloped, tangential aspects of this book.
