Rating: Summary: wonderful!! It drew me in right away!! Review: I couldn't get enough of this novel! The characters are great, the family saga draws you in. I am waiting anxiously for her next novel. This went right up into my top 5!Recommend: Resistance by Anita Shreve, Love in the Time of Choloera by Marquez and Cold Mountian by Charles Fraizer.
Rating: Summary: Grippingly powefull Review: This book had been recommended by a cousin. We grew up in the area and still enjoy returning for visits. The history and characters in the novel were so real. It was chilling yet compelling. I could not put it down and from time to time had to close the book in my lap and breath. It has been well over a year since I read it, but from time to time remember pieces of the story and reflect on it. My sister and I are still talking about it.
Rating: Summary: response to the pregnance of kathleen Review: there was a reader who wanted to know about kathleen's pregnancy... nope it wasn't Rose... but if u re-read the family tree that Anthony shows Lily u will know who the father of the baby was...
Rating: Summary: tragic and beautiful Review: Fall On Your Knees is an amzaing book. It was not quite what I expected at first, but I found it to be one of the most gripping and thought provoking books that I have read in a very long time. I often find myself thinking about this heartbreakingly beautiful love story.
Rating: Summary: I'm not a cat person, but ... Review: I'm sorry. I don't get how all these people can love this unlovable book. Okay, so I give it 2 stars for construction, narration, and evocation, but coming from the land down under (south of the Mason-Dixon line, and the home turf of the likes of such dreary folks as William Faulkner and Walker Percy) I'm acquainted with dark and crazy characters. But do we really want such an un-relenting view of childhood terrorism? Little, if any, emphasis is put on any redeeming characterics of any single character, and none of it was really worth killing the cat.
Rating: Summary: "Fall on Your Knees" is an absolute triumph. Review: I can no longer think of the characters as ficticious, or of myself as an observer of this saga. Ann Marie McDonald put the reader inside the house and in the minds and in the lives of the Piper family. I am in awe of her achievment.
Rating: Summary: Quite simply, it's pure magic.... Review: With this first novel of hers, Macdonald clearly shows that she is a genius, a visionary of sorts. I will be keeping my ears open for her name in the future. Fall On Your Knees is set to become a timeless classic. Macdonald gives her characters such a real, coarse edge, that one feels one knew them and loved them and shared common experiences with them. Fall on your knees is a masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: This was the most wonderful book!!! Review: This book was a wonderful, lyrical, tender, sweet, dark story of a family in Nova Scotia at the turn of the century. I loved this book!!!
Rating: Summary: absolutely breathtaking in its scope and originality Review: This book amazed me from begining to end. The characters were vivid and remarkable...the kind that stay with you long after you've finished the book. But it was Macdonald's unique style of prose that utterly blew me away: a distinct and impressive mix of sheer poetic beauty combined with a dark, often sardonically humorous edge. I can't reccomend this book enough!
Rating: Summary: Just simply amazing Review: Do not read any of the reviews below until after you read "Fall on your knees". Some of the reviews mention people and instances that will ruin your reading experience if you know of them in advance. Having said that....Read this book. It is outstanding.
