Summary: 4 1/2 Stars! Very Different and Original!
Review: This is my first Sandra Brown book and I was pleased. "Envy" was so different and original. A story within a story. A twisted tale of revenge and anger and plain deceit. I truly enjoyed the plots twists (and there were many) and the overall plotting of an angry man who needs closure to a long ago crime.

~A New York book editor named Maris Matherly-Reed has stumbled across a brilliantly written manuscript called 'Envy'. Only partially written and the only identity to the author is the initials P.M.E., with the return address of a remote island off the coast of Georgia. Maris makes it her duty to find him.

Her trip to the island takes her on a weird and eerie journey through a ruined and rundown plantation house where the mysterious author resides. The author, now revealing himself as Parker Evans, is confined to a wheelchair and is very bitter. he doesn't want her there and now has refused to show her anymore of the book. Through arguments and deals, Parker finally is coaxed to reveal a chapter at a time to Maris. What Maris finds is disturbing.
'Envy', a story about two friends who rent a boat with a young woman for a night of wild sex and drinking and only one person will return from that trip bloodied and hysterical. Disturbed, yet intrigued, Maris begs for more and also unwittingly finds herself attracted to the weird author. Worried about her failing marriage, she reluctantly returns home to husband Noah Reed, co-publisher and recieves more of 'Envy' in the mail from Parker. What she realizes slowly is that this harrowing tale is not fiction...but a real life account of a long ago crime in which Maris is being used for revenge.
How well does she really know her husband? Who is he...really? Who is Parker Evans? How does 'Envy' tie in to all of this and how did she get involved? Searching for the truth is more dangerous than she imagined and truth is far stranger than fiction...

Very intense and full of twists that will keep you guessing until the end! And boy does the end make you widen your eyes! Well worth your time and money! Ms. Brown has now become an author for me to look for...

Summary: A Great Idea for a Book
Review: I don't think I have ever read a book with a plot like this one. It was easy reading but the reader has to think constantly while he/she is reading to have any idea what the outcome is going to be. It is a challenge.

Summary: Mildly confusing, but worth the effort to figure it out.
Review: Sandra Brown writes an intense story, complete with a hostile writer who prefers to remain anonymous, even to the publisher to whom he sends his book, a high powered career woman with a lot of spunk trying to track him down, a villainous husband, a murder, illicit affairs, danger, excitement, and intrigue. To wrap all that into one book had to be tough, and though there were so many plots and characters I had to really concentrate on the book to keep it straight, but the ending is well worth the effort. You will enjoy the fictional character who goes at first only by the initials P.M.E., not all is as it seems with him, and Maris Matherly Reed receives his manuscript, knows it is good, but has no contact information. She is determined to find him, and as the story pours out thin streams of information, we are drawn into a mystery of immense proportions. This is definitely one of Sandra Brown's better books.

Summary: Just about a 5
Review: I listened to this book in the unabridged audio book version. The reader Victor Slezak does a great job changing his voice and emotions to accurately portray each character. This is a good book. I have no reason to not giving it 5 stars except for the fact that it is missing that little extra to make it a GREAT book. The characters were great. Sandra Brown developed a very good "Bad Guy." I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to become absorbed in a book and have a hard time putting it down.

Summary: Sandra Brown Does IT Again!!!
Review: I am a loyal fan of Sandra Brown, ever since Breath of Scandal, I have read all her books. I wait IMpatiently for the next book to come out. ENVY is fantastic. I was guessing til the end. I love to read anything by her. She just ensnares you in a trap and you can't get away.
I find myself walking to the kitchen to cook with one of her books in my hand.
As you can see I can get carried away---let me tell you about ENVY, the writing is fantstic, the characters are written with som much detail you feel as if you can see them, as if you are right in the room with them.
I don't like talking about the characters because I don't want to give anything away, I will tll you this you won't be able to put it down!!!

Review: If you read this book, you had a treat you probably could not put down however, you missed out on one of the finest Audio Productions available. The reader for this production will take you into the world that Sandra Brown has created with all of your mind. The reader's vocals will have you smelling the pear blossoms, hearing the crickets and feeling the emotions of the characters. So shut out the real world, get a cassette player and listen from start to finish.
Sandra Brown keeps getting better with every effort. I just hope that she can top this one as this book will be listened to time after time!

Summary: Revenge sweet revenge.
Review: Maris Matherly Reed is the daughter of the enigmatic Daniel Matherly, publisher baron of the free world. It is when she receives the stirring prologue of a partially completed manuscript in her slush pile that she is drawn to a small island off the coast of Georgia, where she battles wits with an angry yet prolific man.

The multiplicity of the characters and the plot in this book are enough to make a reader out of anyone. There are more twists and turns in this book then on the track of the Indy 500 speedway.

The author strikes out at the reader with the fundamental, basic emotions of envy, revenge, and hard won justice, key elements that take the reader on a roller coaster ride that leads them to the grand finale ending. There are some sexually explicit words and scenes, for those who are easily offended take note. All in all I would give this book 4.5 stars. Kelsana 3/27/02

Summary: EXCELLENCE!
Review: It is SO important to have a good reader for an audiobook, and Victor Slezak isn't just good, he's GREAT! I was totally absorbed in the story, never was I thinking about the voice, and that is what makes a great reader. It also helps to have an excellent story and Sandra Brown has really outdone herself here. Great characters, great plot, SEVERAL surprises that caught me off guard! This is one of my recent faves. I totally recommend it!
