Rating: Summary: Lots Of Plot Twists! Review: In this novel Sandra Brown takes you inside the world of publishing and into the writing process itself which I thought was a clever idea but Sandra Brown topped that with her book inside the book! There are two stories in this book the story of Tod and Roark two college rooomates and best friends whose frienship ends tragicly when jelousy gets in the way. It is also the story of Maris a succesful book publisher, Noah Maris'husband, who also works for the prestigious publishing company owned by Maris'father, and the author of "Envy" Parker Evans, a recluse who lives on a remote coast of Georgia. Envy continued to hold my attention until the very end with so much more brewing beneath the surface such as torrid affairs, a major takeover in the works, and a conniving newspaper columinst who will stop at nothing to get what she wants and she has her sight set on everything that Maris has. This is the first Sandra Brown book that I have read but I will certianly be reading more of her work! 5 Stars!
Rating: Summary: Really 4 1/2 stars Review: I like Sandra Brown's writing and I thought this novel was pretty good, for the romance-suspense genre. Granted, there were few surprises (in fact, I could easily predict most of it and only one thing --which I won't divulge-- surprised me), but I kind of expect that from an author who is mainly a romance writer; thus, I'm not really disappointed. I really liked that Brown introduced us to a hero whose disability doesn't detract from his super sex appeal. I think readers of Brown's novel will enjoy this. However, I will say that I'm really disappointed at the ending of this novel. Without giving anything away to those who haven't read it, the ending was implausible. The "revenge" would not have been effective and Brown must think readers have no connection with the reality of law and the courts to try to convince us otherwise. All in all, however, I think this novel is worth reading if you enjoy romance novels, particularly those by Sandra Brown. If you really enjoy Brown's work, though, Breath of Scandal is by far her best ...
Rating: Summary: Not A Great Read Review: Call me a sour old cow, but looking at the reviews here I realize that I am one of the few that hated this book; perhaps I am the only one who hated it with a passion. This book cemented the fact that I will never purchase another Sandra Brown novel. Her plots are getting really "out there"--for the lack of a better term--and her writing is not strong enough to make these out there plots plausible. And I was neither offended or aroused by her sex scenes; I am used to the so-called "vulgarity" of them and they seem to be written purely for shock value and have gotten downright classless. Ms. Brown has also, of late, been sacrificing character development to support her ludicrous plots...only to provide you with her TWO PAGE ending, which is so damn predictable, you wonder why you bother. If you ask me, I was infinitely more interested in Parker's novel than Ms. Brown's!
Rating: Summary: You won't be able to stop reading Review: I loved the characters and the storyline in this book. I was spelled bound by the way the author weaved the story. I could not put the book down.
Rating: Summary: Great Story Review: I loved the characters in this book! I felt like I knew these people. I listened to the unabriged audio 2 times back to back. I really cared about their lives and how they were all inter-connected. The book within a book within a book was a great plot. In addition, the reader, Victor Slezak was amazing in the way he gave each character a uique "voice". His abilty to slip in and out of a southern drawl was flawless. The steamy love scenes between Maris and Parker were worth several rewinds! I would love it if Sandra Brown wrote a sequel. I want to know how Maris and Parker mesh their lives as well as what Noah will try next.
Rating: Summary: A curl-up and read book!! Review: This book was a very quick read. I had a hard time putting it down...I just couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen.
Rating: Summary: Could Not Put It Down Review: I just read some of the other reviews, and want to answer some of the complaints. This was a very well constructed book with likable characters. The twists and turns of the plot added to the suspense, and the book within a book was unique and intriguing. Yes, there were times when you could guess what was going to happen. Did that detract from the suspense? I didn't think so. I suspected things, but couldn't be sure, and even when I was sure, the suspense of when the characters would realize what was happening was still there. The double crosses were numerous and exciting, especially in the sub-plot in New York. I don't want to go into any greater detail for fear of ruining a great story. I think this was one of Brown's finest, and I congratulate her on a great premise which she executed beautifully. Yes, the villian was rather one dimensional, but only once he was revealed. How did he fool so many for so long? This is popular fiction, not literature. As popular fiction, it is WAY above the norm in quality. I really couldn't wait to finish it, and then was disappointed when I did - not by the ending, but because it had been so enjoyable. Kudos to Ms. Brown. This was a plot even better conceived than THE SWITCH, which I thought was a great premise, also.
Rating: Summary: A unique idea with good follow-through! Review: A quick enjoyable read you won't want to put down. Parker (a.k.a.: P.M.E.) is a rich believable character who spins a wonderful suspenseful tale of his own as the author of the book inside this book. You are at once involved in the lives of the authors, gossips, and publishers as well as anxiously waiting for another captivating chapter from Parker. Maris the heir to the Matherly Press thrown is a bit too gullible to believe; and the plot to trap Noah was predictable, despite that a good read!
Rating: Summary: Lots Of Plot Twists! Review: I found this book to be extremely interesting! It takes you inside the world of publishing and the writing process itself which I thought was an ingenious idea by itself but Sandra Brown toped even that with her book inside the book! Envy held my attention untill the very end with all it's plot twists and just trying to figure out who is who. This is the first Sandra Brown book that I have ever read but I will certianly be reading more of her work! 5 Stars!
Rating: Summary: Brown's back to it! Review: I was getting a little concerned after reading The Switch and The Alibi - although I didn't hate them, there were a lot of things that were just too "off" for Brown. For example, trying too hard to make the plot twist while forgetting about character development. Envy was great - the plot was intriguing without being overworked and there was great character development. I pegged Noah from his first introduction, but was eager to find out just how far he had gone and would go to get what he wanted. I also suspected the "one hit wonder" author very early on. Parker had a great remedy for the situation and I was glad to see him finally able to be happy again. Brown is a GREAT author. If you have read something of hers you didn't like, please try again.
