Rating: Summary: A Cracker of a story! Review: What a fabulous story! Maris Matherly Reed, a VP in the prestigious publishing house run by her father Daniel, reieves a "teaser" manuscript in the post and is so intrigued by it that she determines to track down the mysterious author to secure the rights of publication for her firm. Despite the fact that her husband,Noah, also a big player in the family firm, tries to dissuade her,she tracks down the author to a small island off the Georgia coast. What follows is a twisting, turning series of eventswhich take the reader by surprise and into a world of intrigue and evil.I don't want to say more about the plot as it would spoil it for potential readers except to add that there are a couple of very steamy sex scenes which could only have been written by a woman.I found myself neglecting things which I should have been doing as I simply COULDN'T put it down till the end.
Rating: Summary: Fun Read Great Characters - you won't be able to put it down Review: I am an avid reader as I am sure all of your are. I usually have the plot and the twists figured out in advance, but there were many times in Envy that I was caught thinking - good job Sandra! Well done and thank you for giving me a book I could sink my teeth into and characters I could love and worry about as well as hate!
Rating: Summary: Unintentionally Hilarious Review: In desperation, I bought this book in a drug store on a night when the bookstore was closed. Big mistake. The characters are paper thin, and the plot is so predictable, so contrived, so ridiculous, I found myself laughing out loud at its absurdities. The novel within the novel is pathetically [bad], but what really struck me funny was that our heroine, a high-powered editor at a big NY publishing house, thought it was a work of genius. Good grief. If you manage to wade through this thing to the end, which I did by speed reading, be prepared for a good laugh. That last scene had me howling. Silly, silly, silly.
Rating: Summary: Envy... Review: .... kept me hooked I had some of it figured out by the midsection, but Sandra Brown did a great job of making me guess again, and then change my line of thinking and guess again. A great summer read.
Rating: Summary: Up all night. Review: I have to admit I am a huge Sandra Brown fan. However this book was better then most I've read lately. I actually stayed up all night long skipping out on sleep just to finish this book. It wasn't a one more page and I'll stop. Stopping never crossed my mind. The twists were great. Maris and Parker's characters were so true to real life. The villian so cruel you hated him before you found out the whole story. Sandra Brown has done it for me again. It's a must read!!!
Rating: Summary: First time Sandra Brown Review: I'm a first time Sandra Brown reader....can't say anything about any of her other books (there are others, right?!), but this one was a hit. It kept me on the edge and I especially liked the book within a book. I loved Maris....she's a wonderful character, quite a strong woman who had a great relationship with her dad. (Maybe that has something to do with her personal strength) Their interactions were heartwarming to me. I highly recommend this book as an edge of your seat thriller. Great summer reading! I must thank my mother-in-law at this time for giving me this book! Thanks Mom!
Rating: Summary: Could it get any better than this? Review: In the days when we all had time to read a good book, I would have loved to cuddle up with this one. Today I had time only to listen to audio CDs in the car. This one got so good that I sat in the driveway to wait for a chapter to finish. I couldn't get enough. When the "book" was over, I still wanted more. I felt like I knew these people. The twists and turn in the plot were wonderful. The villain was nasty. The hero was really a good guy and in the end everything works out for the best. I cheered, I cried, I wanted an invite to the wedding; I wanted to visit the houses and have dinner with the people I met. The CD version was well read, the book well written.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Book Review: This was a great book with lots of twists and turns. My only drawback to it was the foul language and I am not a prude. The book and story were great. I read it twice and have loaned it to several friends to enjoy as well.
Rating: Summary: WOW, what a comeback! Review: I had stopped reading Brown's books because they were too shallow. BUT, for some reason I took this off the library shelf and once I started I didn't want to put it down. A book within a book kept it twice as hot.Sure, you begin to catch on, or think you do but there's a new twist in the plots of the two books and you're at it again from a new angle. One writer can't please everybody, hence the negative reviews. The book is a mystery, romance, and sexy almost thrller book. The characters are the love or hate types but you will find yourself switching them around as the story reaches the final climax. Sex scenes are not for puritans but you learn a wheelchair is not a turn-off! Other reviewers go into more detail so read them if you want more before you read it. I started reading it without any fore knowledge and I loved discovering it for myself. I do hope you read it and love it as I did, And then read it all over again! Congrats to Sandra Brown,
Rating: Summary: A good book with unrealistic characters Review: Until the end, this was a good book. Most of the characters were not believable. For me to love a book, I have to like the main characters. The woman in this story is an airhead. The man is a self-centered, egotistical, vulgar liar. The ending was unrealistic and very abrupt. Even considering this, I enjoyed reading it.
