Summary: Great Book
Review: As usual Sandra Brown produced a page turner, you will not want to put down. As usual, you think you have figured out the plot and the ending but it changes as she goes along. The grand finale was a surprise but not a surprise. this is one author that I buy sight unseen and have not been disappointed yet.

Summary: Brown is back on track
Review: Reading this book was like reading earlier efforts by Sandra Brown. The characters were interesting and believable, the plot was well-paced and engrossing, and the romance was hot. The ending was a bit facile, but enjoyable none-the-less. Recent works by Brown have been less than her best effort, and with this work I felt my patience was rewarded. It was a pleasure to have her back on track.

Summary: Fabulous Romantic Suspense
Review: In a unique twist, the title of this novel actually refers to the title of the manuscript submitted to the editor of a publishing company. Throughout this read, we are given excerpts of ENVY, as each chapter is finished and given to Maris Matherly-Reed, editor and daughter of Daniel Matherly, of Matherly Publishing Company.

Though Maris discovered the manuscript among a pile of soon-to-be discarded unsolicited manuscripts, she is completely enthralled. She is initially unable to locate the author as he or she only included the initials "P.M.E." and the address as St. Anne Island, Georgia. As part of the mystery within a mystery, Maris spends a great deal of time locating this elusive author and trying to delve beneath his gruff exterior. Parker Evans appeals to Maris, though his crassness shines through. The many layers of his personality as well as obvious secrets between him and handyman Mike add another element of mystery.

Add to the mix of mysteries, Noah Reed, Maris' husband of almost two years who is yearning to rule Matherly Publishing. His placating attitude towards Maris leads to her unhappiness, and she is not sure that he can be trusted. Even from a reader's perspective, Noah is cannily written as a character that may have a side hidden to the world.

As the story line of the manuscript unfolds, it cleverly meshes with the main plot of the novel. Maris makes some great discoveries on St. Anne Island, about herself, Parker, and her relationship with Noah.

This unusual work of fiction within fiction makes for a deliciously crafted read. With all the twists and turns of a mountainous road, ENVY will keep the reader hooked until the road levels out on the other side.

Summary: WHAT A FASCINATING WORK OF SUSPENSE! PROBABLY SANDRA'S BEST!
Review: "Envy" just backs up my theory that Sandra Brown is as good of a suspense writer as a romance writer. When I received the Advanced Readers Copy of this novel two months ago, I was captivated throughout reading it. It was extremely arduous to put down at times. The neat thing about "Envy" is that the book actually takes on two separate stories of these two men's lives. The plot: Maris Matherly Reed is one of the head executives at Matherly Reed Publishing Houses, which her father owns. One day she is going through a bunch of mail and discovers a manuscript of a prologue from a writer who just leaves his intitials, PME. She loves the way this man writes and she finds the plot quite interesting and intriguing. She tries to track down this mysterious man on an island off the coast of Georgia, but finds her self shunned away immediately. As Maris tries to communicate with this writer, her husband, slimeball Noah Reed, has his own little agenda. Not only is he sleeping with another woman, but he wants to take over Matherly Publishing, even if it meets killing Maris's own father. Noah comes to be a major character later on in the story when the reader finds out who Parker Evans really is and what is intention is for Maris to come to this island. This an amazing story of betrayl, friendship, and deception, with an exciting conclusion that makes the reader feel satisfied and shocked. Sandra Brown is one of the best!

Summary: Several great stories in one
Review: The story begins with Maris Matherly Reed using all her resources to track down a fledgling author whose one chapter submission to the publishing company she runs with her father, Daniel, and her slimy husband Noah Reed has attracted Marris' interest. Maris trails the author, P.M.E. (Parker MacKenzie Evans) to Ste. Anne Island, Georgia believing she has trapped Evans when in reality she has fallen into the clever trap he is setting. The story weaves several tales into one satisfying conclusion. As is always true in Sandra Brown's books the characters are likable and the text is intelligently and sensually written. I finished this book in one sitting- my measure of a truly enjoyable read.

Summary: A page-turning blockbuster
Review: Maris Matherly-Reed is a New York book editor, the daughter of Daniel Matherly, owner of an established publishing house, and the wife of best-selling author Noah Reed. Much against company policy, Maris receives the prologue to a manuscript entitled ENVY, with no address or name on it, and immediately she is captivated by it. The prologue tells the story of two young men, and a woman out for a night of fun on a boat, only to have it end in tragedy as only one of them returns. Intrigued by this opener, Maris wants to get in touch with the author, but the submission is signed only by the initials P.M.E. Desperately trying to find any info at all about P.M.E, Maris begins a little investigating and eventually she does find the author, Parker Evans, a wheelchair bound recluse intent on keeping his identity, as well as his past, a secret. Venturing off to Georgia, Maris plans to meet with Parker, and work with him, chapter by chapter to complete his potential blockbuster, but this proves to be a difficult task as Parker is a bitter man harboring a dark secret, and his reason for writing the novel ENVY may not be what it appears on the surface. As Parker's story of ENVY unfolds, Maris starts to question the identity of the book's characters, and if in fact it is fiction. Wanting answers, Maris begins probing into a crime committed decades ago, and at the same time, an evil man is following her every move, and when the time is right, he will unleash his plan to destroy everything Maris has worked so hard for, even if it means killing those close to her. As the past and the present collide, what is fact, and what is fiction will blur, and the lives of Maris, and all those she loves will change, as they are faced with the ultimate deception. ENVY is a gripping suspense novel that grabs hold from the start and doesn't let go. The intricate plot unfolds at a fast pace, and Sandra Brown expertly weaves two stories together with twists and turns, and shocks at every bend. Well written, and perfectly executed, this tale of lies and deception will keep readers guessing all the way up to the shocking climax. As any reader of Ms. Brown's novels should know, when buying one of her books they are going to get an un-put-down-able, entertaining read, and ENVY is no exception, even though parts of the book get a bit silly, it will keep you turning the pages long into the night. No author has, as successfully, jumped from romance writing to the thriller arena, as Sandra Brown has, and I don't think anyone will. As with her previous novels, Sandra Brown has penned another blockbuster destined for the number one spot on all the charts! A MUST read! Nick Gonnella

Summary: Brown's Best Book Ever
Review: Maris Matherly-Reed has it all. She's part of the Matherly Press publishing house founded by her father. She's also the wife of bestselling author Noah Reed, who gave up writing to wed Maris and work for Matherly. With a successful publishing career and two wonderful men in her life, Maris is quite content. One day, while wading through the slush pile, Maris finds a partial manuscript titled 'Envy'. It's good and Maris wants to know more. However, the author has only provided the initials "P.M.E." and the name of a small Georgia island as an address. Maris's gut instinct tells her 'Envy' could be a gold mine. She heads to St. Anne Island to find the mysterious "P.M.E." Noah Reed is quite happy to have Maris out of his hair. Her absence gives him a chance to develop his plan to take over Matherly Press. Years of pretending to love Maris and be devoted to her company are about to pay off. The first meeting between Maris and the author is not pleasant. "P.M.E." turns out to be a bitter wheelchair-bound recluse named Parker Evans. Several strained conversations lead Maris to believe that 'Envy' isn't exactly fiction. Something terrible happened years ago and Parker is writing about it. Maris is too distracted by the 'Envy' manuscript to see that she's being deceived. Noah is proceeding with his plans at home. However, Parker has an agenda as well. It's no coincidence that he sent his manuscript to Maris. He knew she'd come to the island. She's the unsuspecting link to the person Parker really wants to see. In time, Maris will learn the truth behind the story, but can she come out unscathed? What are Parker's plans for her? Will Noah succeed in his hostile takeover of Matherly Press? Deception, greed, lust and jealousy. It's all here in Sandra Brown's "Envy." I truly enjoyed this book and am prepared to say it's Ms. Brown's best work ever. Her perfectly-timed suspense had me hanging on every word of all the nearly 500 pages. The characters are well-formed. Maris is a little too dreamy for this cut-throat publishing world. However, Noah is a perfect villian. Readers will enjoy hating every ounce of his being. Parker has lots of secrets himself which add to the already heightened level or suspense. The love scenes in "Envy" are exceptionally racy. Brown holds nothing back adding a steamy element to the already sizzling plot. "Envy" is the type of book that is best read during a long weekend. Lock yourself in your room and delve into this great story.

Summary: Awesome writer!
Review: This is the second Sandra Brown book I found on the bargain rack. The first "The Crush" left me feeling a little flat with characters I didn't feel for, but "Envy" is the best suspense novel I've ever read. I see how some detractors felt it was unrealistic at times, but for me, Brown knows how to write her scenes in such a seamless manner I had no trouble buying whatever plot twist she had coming. This book would make a great movie, I wonder has one been made? Looking forward to reading more of Sandra Brown's work even if I pay full price.

Summary: Jealousy, not envy
Review: Envy poses the question: what is one willing to give up to exact that one sweet moment of revenge.
Maris Matherly Reed is an editor in her dad's New York City publishing dynasty. When an anonymous author sends her a captivating manuscript, she leaves the comfort of her office to seek out the author in a remote island of Georgia. Unbeknownst to Maris, her arrival is the conclusion of a terrifying plot hatched in the deep recesses of a human mind.
Sandra Brown weaves an intricate plot around Maris, her husand Noah, and the reclusive Parker. Parker's novel serves as a linchpin to the entire plot. Ms. Brown's writing is leisurely, lively; the novel, like a vortex, sucks the reader down to the last page.
Todd and Roark, the fictional characters, are recognizable as everyday people, making the story realistic. But only just.
That is because men are neither angels nor devils; consequently men like Parker or Noah--selfless or self-selving--are only phantasms. Ms. Brown should have taken the advice of Maris to add a sprinkling of evil (and good) to her protagonists.
Given the riveting plot and conclusion, it is a nice read.

Summary: Envy will blow you away!
Review: First and foremost, I am an avid Sandra Brown reader. Honestly some of her books have been flops and some have been amazing. Despite some negative reviews on the author and the book, I believe you will enjoy it. In fact it will blow you away! It is a far cry from being a soppy, bland romance/mystery novel. The prologue itself will make you envy more. If you're still unsure, check it out your local public library. I recommend that you buy the book.
