Rating: Summary: Envy Review: I could not put this book down. The twists were intriguing and I refused to do anything else until I finished the book. Sandra Brown really knows how to keep you riveted and focused on a book.
Rating: Summary: Envy Review: I absolutely loved this book. I am a fan of Sandra Brown's and have read almost all of her books. This is one of my favorites. It kept me guessing and I couldn't put it down. Looking forward to her next romantic suspense.
Rating: Summary: Cycle Riding Reader Review: Wow! I just could not put this one down. I read a lot and I read a lot of Sandra Brown. In my opinion, this is her best yet. Although I thought "The Switch" was good as well. This one has inspired me to write my very first review. This book "grabbed" me early and "teased" (on the jacket summary)as to how it would surprise you with its ending. Even though I had pretty accurate ideas as to who was who in Parker's novel "Envy", it was never dull and less thrilling to ride and read it out to the finish. Sandra Brown is definately good at combining a thrilling mystery and romance in this one. Keep it up, I'll be there to read them. Sandra Brown is much more than a romance writer. This one is worth the time to read.
Rating: Summary: I'm Envious of this Masterful Romantic Thriller Review: As a mystery author with my debut novel in its initial release, I am envious of Sandra Brown's ENVY. Ms. Brown has written a masterful romantic thriller. While the plot requires a major suspension of belief--that any publisher would search out the author of a slush pile partial manuscript who had only signed the work with initials--this thriller reads well. Maris Matherly-Reed is the editor who is so taken by a novel's prologue that she hunts down the initials-only author. The plot spins onward from there, involving literary scams and personal revenge. ENVY is a great read--combining a thrilling thriller with a romantic romance. I recommend it highly.
Rating: Summary: Nicely written Review: Even though this book was somewhat predictable, I was still riveted, eager to see how the story unravelled.
Rating: Summary: Predictable Review: Read the first 80 pages of this book and had it all figured out. There wasn't any surprise ending, flipped to the last 30 pages to confirm all my suspicions. Was very disappointed. She is going the way of Danielle Steel.
Rating: Summary: Wanted more of Sandra Brown after this read - Review: Not usually into 'reads' of this nature. Not sure why I bought the book - but a fantastic read, great story line, real characters, surprises with every twist - absolutely a nonstop read. Made me revisit Sandra Brown's other books - (I bought 3) hoping for the same feeling of accomplishment, gratification I got from reading this one. I am an avid reader - book started in every room, car, work - but this was a book that interfered with work, home, etc. I simply could not put it down long enough to get anything done - so I did the next best thing - I finished it in practically one sitting. Wonderful!
Rating: Summary: This is NOT one of her best this is THE BEST..... Review: The book starts out with three intoxicated people renting a boat and only one of them coming back rather hurriedly with it with a story about how the male on the boat suddenly went crazy with some sort of ENVY(which also is the name of the book). Sandra then introduces us to the characters Maris Matherly-Reed,her husband Naoh Reed and her father Daniel who all run a book publishing company.Maris receives a prologue of a book from P.M.E. and goes to Georgia to meet with him about the book.He dosen't want to meet with her a first, but eventually they start talking. This book is filled with twists and turns, that you wouldn't believe. Everytime you think you know what is going to happen, she surprises you. I could not put this book down.I will tell you that the character is a real dirt ball all through the book and I was happy to see him get his just rewards.
Rating: Summary: A thrilling page-turner! Review: Sandra Brown has a winner on her hands with her latest suspense drama, Envy. Publishing-house "heiress" (and editor in her own right) Maris Matherly-Reed takes an interest (some might call it an obsession) in a manuscript (also named "Envy") that turns up on her desk unsolicited. Hooked by the prologue (the only part submitted), and even more intrigued by the nearly anonymous author, she sets about tracking him down and encouraging him to finish what he's started. In so doing, she sets in motion a drama of a whole different kind which may not only end her marriage, but ultimately destroy her. I really enjoyed this book and its "novel within a novel" format. The chapters of the "Envy" manuscript we are treated to are wonderful and move the story along in a very different manner than one is accustomed to. Maris is a strong character, albeit a bit naive, but very likeable. Parker, the author of the manuscript, is an enigma and the reader just can't wait to unravel his secrets.
Rating: Summary: A six star winner Review: Matherly Press is a well-respected publishing house based in New York run by publisher and vice president Maris Matherly-Reed and her husband Noah, also a vice president. Although Maris is at the top of the power game, she still goes through the slush pile to see if she can find that once in once in a lifetime bestseller. She thinks she's found it when she reads the prologue to ENVY written by somebody with the initials PME. There is no name or address on the package so Maris has to do a little sleuthing to track down the author. When she locates him, she travels down to St. Anne's Island off the Georgia coast to meet with him. What she finds is a wheelchair bound man who wants her to leave. Her determination to stay leads to a mutual attraction that neither of them wanted. Although she tries her best to control her desires by returning to her husband, Noah's betrayal sends her back to Parker Evans. She doesn't realize that Parker has been close to Noah years ago and has been betrayed by him as well or that her new author's actions are a means of gaining revenge on the man who came close to destroying him. Sandra Brown has written another fantastic work of romantic suspense that has a refreshing and unusual plot device to move the story line forward. The reactions of her characters are very realistic and that makes them all the more enchanting to the audience. ENVY is a tale of love, betrayal and redemption, cleverly mixed together to insure another bestseller (deservedly so). Ms. Brown's most creative talent is to create flawed characters acting heroically. Harriet Klausner
