Rating: Summary: Recommended for writers Review: Since I just finished it, I can't say that this book has somehow made some dramatic impact in my own life. However, I will review it from a different perspective than a "practical" application manual in taking control of your life.If you are a writer, or a struggling writer, a book like this can be an invaluable resource on day-to-day human psychology and interaction. You can see situations, interactions, and even conversations develop for your characters based on Lieberman's insights and examples. This book can potentially break writer's block, if you're stuck in a scene, you know what your characters want but don't know how to show it (a man coming off too strong to a woman, someone trying to break bad news to a loved one, someone wanting to manipulate a favor out of someone else, ect.), this book offers suggestions on how your characters should act, or more importantly, how they *shouldn't* act. Since Lieberman's observations based on real life, learning and internalizing the positive and negative consequences of the behaviors described in this book can add some realism to your short stories or novels. As for the lessons themselves, I now see how in many times in my life I have done the wrong thing, and this book explains why I just made things worse, like in past relationships, in job interviews...mistakes we have all probably made. Beyond any practical applications, this is just a fascinating book for those who are interested in human interaction.
Rating: Summary: Good Read but Simplistic Review: This book is generally a good read, with some practical tips. My only critcism is the book is too simplistic. Human behaviour is very complex and in a vacuum yes many of this strategies would be useful. But in real life they may not work. There a lot factors such as culture, personal beliefs, values that effect human behaviour and to generalize to a set single theories to solve life's problem is a bit ridiculous. The book's language is a little manipulative with words like Never, any Situation, Really, Ever. I would recommend this book as a good guide on human behaviour and use it as reference not as absolute truth.
Rating: Summary: FANTASTIC Review: This book is great because it's completely practical. There's no junk or filler. Even more the techniques work amazingly well. The book is well researched and very useful in business as well as in personl situations. I picked it up after seeing it on the NYT Business Bestseller list. Provacative title indeed. But it does deliver. Trust me, it's good stuff. I read all of these kind of books and this is a cut above the rest. It also non-manipulative and much more psychologically-based. But very easy to follow and do.
Rating: Summary: Very Helpful Insight Review: This book presents very helpful basic persuasion techniques that can be very effective but really does not go into very much detail about any of them which is not a bad thing. Many people, including myself, are looking for a general persuasion primer, which this book definately is. I was able to pinpoint areas of persuasion psychology I wish to further study using this book. That is not to say that this book does not give enough information to effectively use the techniques explained--it does and I highly recommend this book, as well as all of Lieberman's books, to everyone.
Rating: Summary: You will read this book from start to finish without ever pu Review: This book will help you to understand how and why people do what they do. I found the chapter on how to get anyone to like you fantastic. It makes those awkward meetings so much more pleasurable and productive. What I liked best is that this isn't just common sense stuff you like find in other books. This book gives you techniques that you never would have figured out on your own. For instance in the chapter on getting anyone to love you, Lieberman talks about the relationship between arousal and adrenaline, and explains that when people are scared they tend to become attracted to people around them. The book is filled with insights on this kind of stuff. Very practical and useful.
Rating: Summary: A "must" for all those who feel powerless Review: This is a fantastic book. If you are a person who feels powerless in most cases and you see that you don't always get what you deserve because you don't have the courage or the way to ask for it, then you must read this book and give yourself the most! Yes, it could be considered "manipulation" for some, but then again it's up to you, to use it in the proper way in order to improve your chances either at work or personal life, or WRONGLY use those secrets to manipulate other people for your own benefits.
Rating: Summary: Good tips that anyone can understand. Review: This is an excellent book. The authors style is easy to follow and the tips in this book are great. It summarizes just about everyone subject in human psychology. It also provides many great examples of real world situations and gives you working advice on what to do. The title of this book(Get Anyone to Do Anything)is a bit exaggerated but not much.
Rating: Summary: Appalling waste of money - try common sense instead! Review: This is my second review for this appaling waste of money self-help book - the first review has mysteriously disappeared (along with a few other critical reviews perhaps). Strange that! I'm sure I never swore or anything but I was pretty passionate about the book being lousey. Out of principle and not wanting to waste any more time on this book these are my comments in brief ... the first thing about this book is the title, which is completely misleading and promises the world but delivers very little. What ever you do, don't expect too much with this book - the author simply passes on 'tricks and tips'which are little more than common sense and some are so ludicrous and superficial that trying them in the real world is tantamount to making you a laughing stock. The problem is the superficiality and the lack of real insight into why people behave and act as they do. Even as an introduction to 'influencing others' the book falls woefully short. See other negative reviews for more information.
Try Robert Cialdini if you want to really know about influence, and if you are interested in POWER then try Robert Greene 48 Laws of Power for a starter.Enough said...
Hope this negative review and others stay on so readers can at least be given some pause for thought before buying this book. Don't say you haven't been warned!
