Rating: Summary: This book won't disappoint! Review: Clancy is at his best with "Debt of Honor." You'llfind yourself turning the pages faster and faster as you follow Clark,Ryan, and the rest of the notables in this tense suspense novel. Consider yourself lucky that the sequel, "Executive Orders" is already out - when I read it, I had to wait almost two years to find out what happens next - and it was worth the wait.
Rating: Summary: Riveted on the Edge of My Car Seat! Review: The audio version (although abridged) loses nothing in the story. John Rubinstean does a terrific job of voice characterizations and you will have no problem keeping the characters straight. The audio is crisp and clear and easily heard in the noisy environment of a car. My only gripe is that some special effects would have been nice. This is a riveting, non-stop action audio book and well worth the purchase price. 6 hours.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Review: An excellent read in which Clancy profits out of the characters he's created from before. As always threading different fronts of action that at first sound unrelated but at the end do have something to do with the rest of the plot. If I had to make some criticism is that Clancy undestates any military defeat to Americans while being very descriptive on its successes. This book could have been better if we had had a more detailed geographical description of Japan as a country and Tokyo as a city as he usually does with D.C. For me, being an out-of-towner to D.C. reading Clancy's descriptions of it make me live again the experiences I've had when visiting the city, and I think that I would enjoy likewise reading similar description of other major cities.
Rating: Summary: Maybe his best yet! Review: Jack Ryan returns in this explosive masterpiece. This is a long book, but I savored every minute of reading it and hated to reach the end. It is somewhat reminiscent of an earlier favorite of his, Red Storm Rising. If you like nonstop action, technical believability, great characterization, and a winning plot, you can't go wrong with this book. After you've finished it, grab its sequel, Executive Orders. Then, you'll have to wait until August 2000 when The Bear and the Dragon is released. I don't want to give away too much, but I'll just say this is one of the best techno-thrillers I've ever read!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Story! Review: First of all, if this is your first Tom Clancy book, put it down and go pick up Patriot games and read all of the books in order. You will get much more pleasure out of the book because by the time you get to this one you will love all of the characters. That said, this is a great book! It tells a story of a modern war. This book has everything, nuclear missles, blackmail, dogfights, submarine warfare, economic warfare, and the best of all... stealth bombers. Most of clancy's other books have snippets here and there of all of these things, but most of them do not deal with an all out war. All of this with the backdrop of nuclear devistation makes this book a must read.
Rating: Summary: Too long, too contrived Review: Dear lord - 400 pages to get to anything of substance/action? And talk about a string of convenient coincidences. Finally, Clancy's economic analysis is seriously flawed - if Japan's economy truly gets hammered the way he suggests by the TRA, then the last thing that they would be able to do is dump Treasuries, especially given their large (and unmentioned) stake in the US equities market.
Rating: Summary: Different Review: I've read several of Clancy's Op-Center books. I've read the Hunt or Red October, Patriot Games, and Clear-and-Present-Danger.This was definately different. At times, it seemed as though Clancy wasn't doing the writing. Good book though... Not the ending I expected though...
Rating: Summary: Fairly exciting book with a few flaws Review: Most of this book is the kind of war games thriller that Clancy does best. The whole story of the war with Japan and much of the international intrigue is fascinating. This is as good as Clancy gets. There are some minor flaws with the book, but they don't interfere too badly with the main plot line: 1. I figured out the resolution to the National economic crisis before any of the characters in the book. It was so obvious, I was surprised it was used. 2. Clancy feels this needs to bring back characters from old books and puts them into pointless subplots. The subplot with the old Coast Guard Captain on Saipan didn't really add that much to the story. The marines sneaking into Japan was completely contrived. 3. Clancy beats the reader over the head with his views against military downsizing with over exaggeration and implausible situations. 4. The ending leads up to the horrible Executive Orders, where Clancy really loses it.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable ending Review: While it takes a while to get started (as do all Clancy books), it turns into a fast-paced "I can't believe that just happened" book. The ending in particular is unbelievable (in a VERY believable way)
Rating: Summary: please! Review: hello! is anyone awake after reading this book! i read hunt for red october and got hooked, this is a disgrace for clancy! it you like to write 700 pages of college notes with an example plot twisted into it-go ahead read it! its funny that this is coming from a die-hard tom clancy fan! he has been getting better with his characterization, i especially like clark and chavez, but jack ryan must go . . . you cant use the same character in each one of your books! but, do read all his other books!
