Summary: B.O.B., A great book
Review: This book opened my eyes to WWII. This was not what I learned in 8th grade. This book takes you through the war with real men that you can connect with. These men take you step by step with their feelings. I loved the book and recommend it for everyone.

Summary: wonderfull read
Review: The accounts of the 101 Airborne are truly moving. A wonderful perspective on the experience of US soldier in WWII. Forget the startegies and what general did what and where, these are real ordinary men who did extraordinary things. I highly recomend it to anyone who would like to just for a second mentaly experince WWII through the brave men of Company E. Eloqently written, interesting and exciting. And best of all real.

Summary: Thin and Disappointing
Review: I bought this in the hopes of reading the book before the HBO series came out, so I would know the real story before it was bastardized on television. But I found the book account rather thin, more like a broth than a hearty stew. It tells you the basics of Easy Company's forays into Europe, but you get little sense of the cameraderie, the terror, the exhileration of these campaigns. Instead, you get a fairly factual account of what they did. I think it's a general knock on all of Ambrose's books; he has the instincts of the PhD historian that he is ("just the facts m'am") when we're expecting something a little more narrative and gripping. Someone like Barbara Tuchman is much better at filling in the narration around historical events. Frankly, the HBO series is much better than the book, which defied my expectations. There were times when I saw the series and thought that their story filled in the account much more fully than how the book covered it. Bottom line: a disappointment.

Summary: One of the Best WWII Histories by far!
Review: When I read this book, I felt that I was in action with the Easy company, if they were training, fighting, talking, sleeping and everything that they had done.
The book is really accurate, and provides many details, all the while being written like a novel. I was very impressed on the amount of detail that Ambrose put into this epic history.
The easy company is also one of the best groups to write about because they did it all. They went from D-Day to Holland and Germany.
The action that was in the book kept me hooked to the last page. I am very glad that it was written!

Summary: Band of Brothers: E Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne
Review: Thank God for the Airborne, and for men such as these.

Summary: Band of Brothers
Review: It is like most other books about WAR, the author does not follow
the factual events, but tells a good story.
The 101st was one of the last Amertican units to reach the Eagle's Nest. The 15th Inf. Regt. 3rd Inf.Div. (Audie Murphy's unitt) was the first American unit to reach it and a French unit at the same time. The 101st came in much later, but joined in the party or what was left. The book has many such NON-FACTS in it, just to make for a good story.
I am author of military books and retired Army.Sgt.Maj.

Summary: Gripping True Story of Easy
Review: I have to say this is the one of the best book's I have ever read. I literally could not put it down. Stephen Ambrose really did his homework on this one, and his attention to detail puts you right in the foxhole with the men of Easy Company. If you have watched the HBO Mini-Series, than you must read the book.

Summary: Great read but NOT a ORAL HISTORY
Review: (I AM WRITING THIS REVIEW FOR THOSE WHO ARE INTERESTED IN "ORAL HISTORIES")

This book covers the combat history of the 101st Airborne, 506th's Easy Company. I WAS TOLD this book is an oral history and I READ other reviews confirming it. So I ordered it. (I would much rather have the vets tell their own story than a historian) However, despite the book discribed as an oral history it is not. With a oral history the vets themselves tell their story in their own words. Such books as "DEATH MARCH" by Donald Knox and "BLACK DEVIL BRIGADE" by Joseph Sprenger are excellent examples of true oral histories. ("Black Devil Brigade" is without a doubt the '2001 sleeper' of Airborne and Commando WWII combat and standard for oral histories .)

Notwithstanding the fact Band of Brothers is not a real oral history does not diminish Band of Brothers. Band of Brothers is very well written by Ambrose, is reasonably priced, and reads fast, fast, fast.

Anyone interested in Airborne operations of the Second World War, or any reader who is familiar with the works of Stephen E. Ambrose, should purchase this book. It's a terrific read covering the history of airborne combat, and their airborne spirit, and you will not be disappointed.
