Summary: Band of Brothers
Review: This is a story that tells more than just the happenings of war. It is about the individual relationships of men assigned to a particular company. You willl watch certain individuals grow both as soldiers and as human beigns. You will be let down by them when they faulter and you will share in their pride when they are victorious. It's a great read!

Summary: Great Story, Lousy Writing
Review: This book can be summed up without much effort: A story of America's best written at the level of a high-school term paper.

Summary: Great beach book
Review: This was an enjoyable read for the history enthusiast. Like much of Ambrose work it focuses on the human interest rather than drowning you in details.

Summary: Story about America's finest- WWII paratroopers
Review: Band of Brothers is much different than the other Ambrose that I have read in that it focuses mainly on one company as it jumps, fights, and drinks its way across the Western Front during WWII. By using the numerous personal interviews that he completed for this book, Ambrose gives a pretty detailed account of E company's soldiers, NCOs, and officers. All in all, the company is full of a highly motivated group of men who are willing to go the distance in order to achieve victory. Personally, I enjoy books that give this kind of detailed accounts of battles and events as they happen to the common soldier, or in this case uncommon soldiers- paratrooopers.

Having said that, some may not enjoy this book as much if you do not have a good understading of the ETO during WWII. Ambrose assumes that the reader is familiar with most battles, so he does not go into great detail when describing the events as they happen to the men of E Company. Instead he gives an interesting glimpse into the mind, hearts, and souls of these brave men who represented one of the finest military units that the Army put in the field during WWII.

Simply put, E company represents the kind men who make you proud to be an American. They make the best of almost every bad situation, and do a tremendous job of defeating the Nazis, in spite of every obstacle (D-Day jump), every situation (Operation Market Garden), and every circumstance (Battle of the Bulge) that they face. The training they endure is intense, and pays big dividends when they find themselves in combat all over Western Europe. If anything, this book really reinforces the notion that hard, realistic training is vital to survival. It teaches soldiers to deal with anything they encounter, and builds a bond in the unit that enables them to overcome all odds, and attain ultimate victory.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about WWII soldiers (especially paratroopers). If you are not very familiar with WWII, it may help to read something else first, in order to gain maximum enjoyment from the inspirational tale of E Company, and how they helped defeat Hitler's Nazi Regime.

Summary: Band of Brothers - A Must Read!!!
Review: Having watched the HBO series when it first aired, I wanted to pick up the book to read coincident with the replay of the series on HBO. I'm glad that I did. I felt the series was excellent--truly visually compelling. As most books do, however, the additional essence of what the men of Easy Company experienced from the first day of training to the end of the war in Europe could only be provided by the written word. The additional depth and breadth of coverage in the book provided insights not available by simply watching the series. Although not necessarily flowing smoothly like fiction normally does, Band Of Brothers was an easy, compelling read. Whatever choppiness might exist can be forgiven as the reader gets more and more insight into the tenaciousness, courage, perseverance, valor and honor of the men of Easy Company. This is truly a worthwhile read, regardless of whether or not the reader has seen the HBO series.

Summary: Very good WWII - the HBO series is very close.
Review: I actually read this after seeing the HBO series. The HBO series is very close to the book. The book has a little more to it. Great docu-movie on WWII following the 101st Airborne. Not just war scenes (which are very good), but you get into the thoughts and lives of the troops.

Summary: Charge!
Review: This book is about the 101st airborne division. This book starts with training, where all the characters get to know each other. The plot then takes them to behind the lines in D-Day, through to the Ardenes and operation market garden in Holland. This book has recently been made into a hit TV series showing just how goo it is.

Summary: Need to know some history to read this one
Review: I must admit, I had no clue about most or the events, so after reading it I educated myself a little. It is easy to read and not too tragic, without failing to give a clear picture of the reality of the matter

Summary: Band of Brothers
Review: Once again, Stephen Ambrose gives a realistic account of battle during WWII.

I became interested in this book after seeing the trailer for the HBO Miniseries of the same name. I bought the book and read it in a matter of days. The book chronicles "Easy Company" of the 101st Airborne division in WWII. They had some of the hardest assignments and among the highest rate of death in the Army during the war.

The book follows Easy company from their training to Hitler's Eagle's nest. Ambrose does a good job of describing the horrific events that the soldiers of Easy went through and how this formed a bond that made the a "Band of Brothers."

I liked the book. I would not run out and buy it, but if it is laying around I would pick it up. My major issue was with the emphasis on the Battle of the Bulge. A good portion of the book is devoted to The Bulge and it slows down the pace of reading. There are a lot of details that make for mundane reading.

Overall, Band of Brothers is a solid effort by Ambrose, but comes up a bit short.
