Summary: Slow down Suzanne
Review: This is a really good book. The problem is we have come to expect GREAT books from Suzanne Brockmann. To me this felt like she was racing to get through it. There was little of the careful, thoughtful touches found in her previous books where the plotlines weave together in a careful dance. Too many of the characters had brain talk that sounded like what I imagine California teenagers to sound like (so very annoying, so yesterday, and so you know...). There was still the bubble of laughter through much of it that keeps me reading her books and the emotional tug that comes with learning the story of a misfit like Jimmy. Was it hard to believe Tess could fall in love with him? She was a goner from the first page, so I was willing to go with it. I hope that in her next book Suzanne can take the time to craft the kind of story she is capable of writing.

Summary: Great Read
Review: This is the third book that I have read by this author and I thought it was very well written. I make it my policy only to write reviews for books that deserve four or five stars and this one got five stars. I read it in one day and could not put it down. I won't go into the story line because others have already done that but this book goes on my keeper shelf. The characters were real and the men were very alpha and I loved it! Worth the price of a hardback.

Summary: Great Mind Candy
Review: This was an excellent, diverting read. And Ms. Brockmann is to be congratulated for having the courage to risk her fans' ire by (gasp!) actually creating a host of new, quirky characters for us to learn to love (in subsequent novels?). Her writing is deft and intelligent. No novel in the romantic suspense genre should be expected to be a Henry James-esque exploration of character or motive. Neither should it be overly heavy on the "romance," because suspense is by definition story-driven, or it just flops. In addition, when there are multiple players on the stage, any deep exploration of character, even for the main players, is challenging. In FLASHPOINT we are being introduced and given character sketches. Without a doubt, it is easier to develop a character when he first moves around as a side player for three novels. When he finally gets his own novel and starring role, he's already a multi-dimensional person--as are all the other familiar faces. With one, ensemble-player novel, that's almost impossible. (If you will remember the first novel about Tom Paoletti, you will also remember it had but 2 main characters, and 2 main side characters.) I urge Ms. Brockmann to continue with this group of characters and not be put off by negative comments. Any writer who can produce an ensemble-cast novel of this caliber can only give us better in the future. Way to go, girl.

Summary: Flashpoint
Review: Very good book, but not as strong as other Brockmann books. The characters were interesting, but seemed lacking in the "pull" that I always find with other characters she has created in the past. As a Brockmann fan, I really enjoy her writing style and sense of humor, but only with a general sense of satisfaction. The main characters, Tess and Nash, are good together and have good chemistry, but there is a "one-sided"ness to them that is a little hard to believe. Tess isn't just nice, she's SUPER nice in the face of Nash's almost-cruelty and not really much else. Nash isn't just tormented, he's SUPER tormented and not much else. Like the other reviewer said, they aren't really 'fleshed out.' But, considering Nash kills people for a living...I guess reasons for his torment are supposed to seem clear. Also, My OPINION is that the terrorism aspect (of which Brockmann is famous) boggs the storyline down a bit in this book, BUT that may be a preference for less mystery and intrigue and more romance. So, I'm not going to fault Brockmann on that! She's a great author, though. I really admire her strength in current affairs as well. I DID enjoy the book and will continue to read her stuff.

Summary: excellent
Review: very nice, very fast-paced. though the premises seem cliched, it's brockmann's style, characterization, and dialogue that move the book.

Summary: UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!
Review: What is an alpha male? I don't know. According to this Suzanne Brockmann book he's a user. I bought this book the day it came out. I have started to read it 4 times, and am only on page 165. Jimmy Nash so far has no redeeming qualities. He uses women, loves his buddy, and broods about his past. So sounds like any other Brockman, Right? WRONG! This guy may be gorgeous, but he is NOT likable, and if he has a heart, it must be stone.

Tess is a likable character, and we can identify with her for her attraction to Nash. But she seems a little bit in need of self confidence. I will eventually finish this book. After all I paid alot for it. But I think I'll wait for some other customer reviews on the next one.

Decker and Sophia will be more interesting as we go along. (I hope) Maybe this is another Sam and Alyssa type story to follow through other books. Who knows.

But this is definitely not one of her best. I recommend NIGHT WATCH.

I did skip to the end to get a booster for my Sam and Alyssa addiction.

Summary: Near Miss
Review: While probably not her best work, Flashpoint is still a book that I'll keep on my shelves for a re-read along with all the other SB books I've got. So I'm surprised that so many don't particularly care for it. The characters are interesting and have more depth than the average love story. All of which is to be expected when reading a Brockmann novel. Diego Nash isn't always a lovable character but his dark side contrasts well with the sometimes overly sweet Tess Bailey. Both are developed but fell short of the usual realism of a SB character.

The side characters are what make it a worthwhile read. Decker, Sophia, Dave, and Murphy keep things moving and temper the over-the-top personalities of both Bailey and Nash. Overall it would have been nice to see more of the original Troubleshooters from the SEALs as this is sort of the next step in the series. Then again, it's not their story...it's Diego and Tess.

Summary: Worthy of Vince Flynn
Review: With "Flashpoint," S. Brockmann has moved out of the realm of romance writing and has entered into the mostly-male action genre. This book is superb -- worthy of Vince Flynn, and, dare I say it? even the great T. Clancy. There really is no better way to describe Suzanne's writing style here other than to say "she writes like a guy." This book is more plot-based than her other novels, and the action and dialogue keeps the reader in suspense all the way. I love the departure from Team 16 (that's just me though, I love the world of spydom more than the world of commandos). This book is so good that I think even my husband would enjoy it. The romance is secondary to the operation, which makes the book better, I believe.
