Summary: The majority votes Ann Rule TOPS as writer, reporter etc.
Review: This book is worth every $ you spend. Ann has done it again - "Every Breath You Take" had me holding my breath to see how they would be able to bring this ex-husband to justice. You can't help but feel for Sheila, this mother is trying desperately to hold on to her world. She and her children were used, abused and manipulated cruelly. Everyone who loved them will hurt for the rest of their lives because of that pitiable excuse for a man. A pedophile, a batterer, a sexual deviant, con artist, liar, etc. etc. To think that so many people could know that this murder was going to take place and NO ONE said anything???
Even though he was out of state, even though he did not pull the trigger, even had many alibis and more money than God, law enforcement in working together were able to nail his hide to the wall. Chalk up one for the human race. Ann doesn't have an equal when it comes to laying out the facts and putting them in an order for the reader to be able understand why some things happen the way they do. Sloppy investigating or forensic work.... and the murderer would have gone free. (OJ comes to mind) It did my heart good to see how this case went together and how egos were put aside for the good of law enforcement. For those not interested or think 'poor writing'. .. go buy a comic book. Some people can only criticize or are frustrated writers themselves. The rest of us KNOW good writing when we read it. Keep it up Miss Rule, the only complaint the rest of us have is that we just wish you would write a book EVERY month. Just one of your many fans!

Summary: B O R I N G
Review: That's the best way to describe this book. There were times I couldn't keep my eyes open. Sheila Bellush was by all accounts, smart...so why did she stay with the bird faced Allen?(which Ann Rule continuously calls "handsome")... If that's not enough, she deals with him bringing home prostitutes both male and female(not to mention a few lovers in between). She finally has enough and leaves the man she fears, only to move on the same block with him? Then we are bored with the family tree....we have to go back to the childhoods of Allen and Sheila's parents. While the only interest lies with Allen's family, because his life with them, would mold him into the person he would become. Maybe it's because the victim herself wanted Ann Rule to write her story, but I feel Ms. Rule just threw in too much needless information. The real interest lies in the killer himself. That would have been an interesting story...

Summary: I actually lost sympathy for the victim!!
Review: I have read all of Ann Rule's books and have been a fan of true crime for years. I couldn't wait for this book to come out, and wasn't disappointed. However, in all the years I have read true crime, I have never lost sympathy for a victim until now. The fact that Allen killed a biker in a fit of road rage while with Sheila, critically injuring his passenger, then lied about it with the cops claiming self defense, with Sheila backing his story, totally floored me. Also, she still stood by him after he forced her parents into bankruptcy, causing them to lose everything. Did she think it was OK to kill someone and lie about it, and then when he turned on her years later, she expected the police, etc. to be there for her. No one in this book had any morals. What about the biker victims?
I can think of true crime stories that have happened in my area that are more deserved of a story than Sheila Bellush.

Summary: Not one of Ann's best book (in my opinion)
Review: I have read every book that Ann Rule has written, and usually can't wait to read her next book. This was no exception. I purchased, but for the first time, found it difficult to follow, with too many details. It took me awhile to finally finish the book, when I usually read it in two days. I have given every other book by her 5 stars.

Summary: Not one of Ann's best book (in my opinion)!!!
Review: I have read every book that Ann Rule has written, and usually can't wait to read her next book. I pre-ordered this one, and couldn't wait to read it. For the first time however, I couldn't get through it. It was confusing, and I just didn't enjoy it as I did the others. I am an avid fan of True Crime and Ann Rule, but this just didn't do it for me, like her other books did.

Summary: Another Exceptional Book by Ann Rule
Review: “Every Breath You Take” is that rare combination: meticulously researched and skillfully written. From the first chapter account of the discovery of Sheila Blackthorne Bellush’s body -- her quadruplet toddlers splattered with blood -- the book claimed my attention and transported me into the strange and perverted world of multimillionaire Allen Blackthorne. What kind of madman contemplates such atrocity? Who could hate so thoroughly he would deprive six children, two his own daughters, of their mother? A man with exceptional talents, one who rose from the depths of poverty to achieve financial success, Blackthorne had it all: a beautiful wife, adorable children, a palatial home, and enough money to satisfy his every whim. Yet money and success weren’t enough. Those close to him knew the other Blackthorne, dark and twisted. In the end, he became obsessed with the desire to punish his ex-wife. Ultimately, he sacrificed everything for revenge.

I thoroughly enjoyed Ann Rule’s latest work. In fact, I found only one draw back; I was forced to break my iron-clad rule of carrying only paperbacks on airplanes. Once started, I couldn’t leave the book home. The added weight in my suitcase proved to be a minor inconvenience, however. In return, I enjoyed an exceptional traveling companion: entertaining, engrossing, and enlightening.

Summary: Great Book
Review: I loved this book - could not put it down even though I knew the story and the results.. Thought Ann Rule went into great depth about each character. Think critical remarks about Blackthorn's looks or not delving into Sheila's character enough were silly comments.. Again I say, "Great Book"

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent Ann
Review: In keeping with her usual style, Ann gives us what most true crime afficianados need - detailed backgrounds of the actors in an intricate drama. We're always looking for the WHY. Ann tackles this task with heart. She presents her information in a credible, objective fashion, but also leaves much to the reader's imagination by what she doesn't say.

Summary: Gripping and Bizarre -- Typical Ann Rule
Review: I have read all of Ann Rule's books, and this is as good as all of the others. Rule's books continually strike me as so bizarre, you can't even believe they are real. At the same time, you like them BECAUSE the reality is so much more bizarre that you would expect. I also like Ann Rule's books (and this one is no exception) because she does not try to make heroes out of the victims -- she portrays everyone realistically and humanly, with all of the normal human faults we all have. This book gets off to a bit of a slow start (Ann Rule does love to go into the family history of the main characters a bit too much), but picks up quickly and is well worth the effort. Allen Van Houte/Blackthorne is pure evil.

Summary: Every Breath You Take
Review: I have read every book Ann Rule has written and each time I am amazed that each new book is" the best I have ever read"until her next book comes out and as always the new book is "the best".In writing this book Ann Rule has managed as always to make her readers privy into the very life of the victim and the person responsible for her death- this book delves into obsession and the truly devious and horrific way the final act of this obsession was carried out -a detailed and factual well written gripping book ,as only Ann Rule can write.
