Summary: Breath taking suspence
Review: Ann Rule is an exceptional writer and has outdone herself in her true account of Sheila's life and those who touched Sheila. Throughout the story I felt myself in tune with Sheila's thoughts and feelings. It makes one realize how easily some people can draw others into their life and cast a spell to become so possessive of another human life, even to the extent of extinguishing that life by what ever means possible. This book is a must read.

Review: I love Ann Rule. Really, I do. But I think she went a bit overboard with this one.

Summary: Caren
Review: This is absolutely the worst written book that I have ever read. Perhaps it doesn't matter, because the story IS riveting. Having read other Ann Rule books, I have to wonder if she had less experienced staff members write it for her. It is written in a choppy manner, with various grammatical issues, as well (I'm no expert on grammar -- but these issues are obvious). I can believe that much effort was put into researching this book, but I wish more effort had been put into the writing of this book.

Summary: Ann lost all objectivity when writing this book....
Review: Ann just glossed over the fact that Shelia witnessed, in the beginning of her marriage, her husband murder an innocent motorcyclist whose only mistake was to pass him on the highway. Sheila didn't even bother to offer aid to the dead motorcyclist's passenger who lay there seriously injured. Most people's conscience would not allow them to leave someone dead and dying on the highway. Sheila did. She also married a man who bankrupted her parents with his scheming ways. And yet when SHE (Sheila) became the victim of this man, Ann expected us to feel sorry for her. Sheila did nothing about Alan's murderous and scheming tendecies until she became the victim. As long as his cruel and vicious behavior was directed towards others, Sheila sat back and did nothing. Shelia was arrested for child abuse and yet the neighbor, who was so concerned about Sheila's daughter's abuse that she took photographs of her injuries for the police, was made out to be a "busybody" by Ann. I think Ann got way too much information for this book from Shelia's sister who was obviously very biased. I am looking forward to Ann's next book. She is my favorite author. I hope she goes back to her unbiased, objective writing.

Summary: A Tragedy That Hits Too Close To Home
Review: This is definitely not a book for those who read true crime to wallow in blood and gore--and grisly details--ala Gary C. King or Don Lassseter. No explicit body photographs. It is, instead, the sensitive recreation of the life and death of a woman who thought she had found "The prince" and realized too late that she had mated with the devil. For those who seek detail and validation of what led up to murder, Rule has written what is, too date, quite possibly, her finest and most thoroughly researched book. Easy reading? No. Every Breath You Take is a book; Gary C. King writes "comic books, born of bloody murder, with apparently no concern for the victim or the victims' survivors. There's no comparison. If you like one style, you will avoid the other.

Summary: Surprisingly boring...
Review: I'm a huge true crime fan, a very big Ann Rule fan, yet this one didn't do it for me. To me, Small Sacrifices was a masterpiece. This one was loaded w/unnecessary detail, yet she sometimes left out stuff that the reader would consider important ... for instance - Stevie's sexual abuse allegations against her father seemed to scare Alan, so they must've had merit .... yet it was really never delved into in the story. Another thing - while this crime was about as bad as it gets, and I hope those 4 losers rot in jail for what they did - Sheila was a bit unsympathetic at times. Ann Rule could have at least acknowledged that, rather than chalking it up to being in love, or being afraid. And Jamie was a jerk! I had a hard time understanding why she allowed him to discipline the girls that harshly (11-12 yrs old, being slapped in the face?).

Summary: Yes, it's like all Ann's books -- thank goodness!
Review: Sure Ann Rule's books follow a formula. And, like TV's LAW & ORDER, it's a successful way to tell a crime story. In this book, as in all Ann's books, there's the set up, the crime, the investigation, and the final judgement. Her books aren't fine literature, like Truman Capote's IN COLD BLOOD, but classics like that come along very rarely. What Ms. Rule does well is to keep the victim in as clear focus as the villain. Often in books of this genre, the victim and the impact of the crime are lost because criminals such as Blackthorn are so complicated and interesting. Not so here. Shelia, Jamie, Carrie, the older daughters and the quads are never forgotten.

Summary: The Queen of True Crime still Rules!!!
Review: There is a reason they call Ann Rule the Queen of True Crime! She is the best! I could not put down EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE. Ann Rule writes with great insight and compassion. I can't wait to read her new book, LAST DANCE, LAST CHANCE.
If you are just starting to read Ann Rule, you will want to look for her first true crime book, THE STRANGER BESIDE ME, about her fateful friendship with serial killer Ted Bundy--BEFORE he became an infamous murderer.
If you read this Ann, please keep writing! We love you!

Summary: Disappointing!
Review: Ann Rule is one of my favorite writers. I have read & enjoyed every book she has written. Unfortunately, this book fell way short of her other books. Her books are usually very hard to put down & has you sitting on the edge of your seat.
Unfortunately, this one was quite disappointing. The story was very dry, quite slow, uninteresting & just plain boring.
Not one of her best.

Summary: excellent
Review: As an Ann Rule fan, I've read all of her books multiple times, and this was one of my favorites. Another story that reads like fiction and you can't believe it has really happened. Would suggest it to anyone who enjoys Rule as an author and a good starter for those new to her....
