Summary: wordy and inconclusive
Review: if you are an avid Rice reader, you will probably read this book out of sheer patronage; however, overall this book is mostly wordy and inconclusive.the most captivating part of this novel is the usage of words and how things are described, because if you have read any other vampire chronicle books, most of what you read you will already know (save for some very small personal details about marius's tormented life). nothing is really new here with this work and you get the same vague sense of accomplishment from say Violin, but nothing like Memnoch, Armand, or Merrick which i would say are vastly better. the ending leaves a hollow vibrating rhythm of confusion and seems relatable to the ending of the latest Lord of the Rings movie in that the book just isn't done.

Summary: Blood and Gold
Review: I have am a huge fan of anne rice so of course as soon as any new book comes out I get it asap. I was taken a aback with this book. She is so decriptive and I love the way she writes her characters, they seem to come alive and even after you finish the book you wonder what they are doing. You can't help but feel compassion and care for the main character Marius. He comes across as a sensitive, sensuous, and intresting being, as he tells his tale of the years you almost feel like you are there with him.
I really enjoyed the way she made a whole world withing these pages. As you read you wonder how she can make her characters evolve in so short a time. and you don't need to have read the other previous books to know what is going on. There was always something going on and unlike a few other books in the series you weren't bombared with characters. I can't wait to see what happens next. This was my favorite book in the series

Summary: A must for the fan
Review: Finally we get to see Marius' point of view. Makes me want to re-read the old stuff again. I would recommned it highly, as I would W. G. Griffiths' "DRIVEN", which I recently read. WOW!

Summary: Marius is the coolest Vamp!
Review: I really enjoyed reading this book and I have to say that Marius is by far my fovarite vampire. Forget Lestat... This guy's been through so much, Lestat needs to get a life. Marius tells his story finally. It was good to get the story from a diferent point of view. I mean Pandora left out so much stuff in ther book. Marius Rocks!!!

Summary: Waiting for Amadeo
Review: I've read all the Vampire Chronicles except Merrick, and so when I heard this book was coming out, I got hold of it as quickly as I could. As some other reviews have said, it is more of the same. I have to confess that it's basically a padding out of the narrative from the Vampire Lestat and Pandora, but it is well written, like all of Ms Rice's books. I always enjoy her style; maybe I'm one of the 'artsy' types that another reviewer alluded to, but I love to let the words wash over me. She really creates her world in three dimensions, allowing you to feel and see what her characters experience. If I didn't already know Marius' story, I would probably have enjoyed this book even more. However, like some other people (I'm sure), I spent most of the book waiting for Amadeo to turn up. Once he did, the story became a lot more real - the whole Renaissance section was written very well, though I agree that Marius' supposed 'love' of Botticelli was a bit superficial, resulting from about two visits and a lot of running around after paintings. I was a bit surprised that 'Marius' didn't mention the point before the battle with Akasha when he met Armand again after five hundred years. You would have thought, perhaps, that to meet your lover again after half a millennium would warrant a mention, but it appears to skip Marius' mind. Overall, this is not the best of the Vampire Chronicles. If you have already read the others, then the only thing you can gain from reading this is a slight extension of Marius' life, complete with more beautiful period detail. However, I did get the feeling at points that Ms Rice is simply trying to tell stories again and again in order to get more characters in. If you enjoy her beautiful style, as I do, then you may well enjoy this. I found it an absorbing read, but have to admit that the only thing that really fired me up and kept me turning the pages, was the prospect of Amadeo/Armand arriving in Venice. When that happened, the story all became worthwhile (though not as worthwhile as The Vampire Armand, which tells the same story, more or less). Just finally, in response to the other reviewer's complaint about 'gushing'. This is Ms Rice's style. By now, after - how many is it? - roughly ten books, you should have accepted it as inevitable. Personally, I believe it's all part of the immensely sensual and engaging world she creates.

Review: a tale woven of passion and pain. blood and gold is like dancing with rapture. anne rice gives marius life, you can feel his breath on your neck when he speaks, you can feel his touch, cold then warm after a kill.anne rice shows us ancient rome through the eyes of an immortal, she teaches us to love and to hate and to want. to read of marius' life is to know him intimately,to yearn for his blood, to die for his kiss.

Review: I have read all of Anne Rice's vampire books and the story of Marius' life was definately the most in-depth one yet. How Anne wrote in detail about Rome and the artists of the past baffles me. She is an excellent writer.
