Summary: Her best!
Review: I've been an avid reader of Rice's Vampire Chronicles and have loved every book in the series. However, this one is the best! Maruis' story answers so many unanswered questions and covers subjects left vague from previous volumes. By reading the other books you are able to peer into these magnificient creatures lives, and by reading this one you are accepted into their exclusive group and their wonderful history. And such a poignant title!

Summary: So horrible it almost made me cry
Review: Just when I thought Anne Rice could sink no lower, I read blood and Gold. (I was not kidding when I said that it almost made me cry)The book, surprisingly, starts out interesting. We meet Thor,whom we find out has a connection with Maharet and resentment for her that has not been reconciled with. One thinks that the novel will have some remote focus on this situation.But it does not. Instead, its focus is on putting "twists" on a story that we have heard before. Not a very smart move, Anne. I, for one can say that had she gone more in depth with the character of Thor she could have passed this novel off as somewhat original and kept a few more fans. The redundant droning of Marius could make anyone want to put this book in the garbage disposal. The only thing that stopped me from doing just that was because it was a Christmas present. ... With each page, she has dug a deeper grave then she can ever imagine. ...I am sorry to say that this is the last review I will ever do on any Anne Rice book. I certainly will not read her newest regurgitated novel titled Blackwood farm. I am usually not the one to judge a book by its cover, but in this case I honestly believe that her latest installment is not going to be any better.

Summary: Nothing new, and lacking in creativity.
Review: I have read all the Vampire Chronicles and 95% of the book's story has already been told in the past books. Anne Rice uses her "succesful" formula again, but it is starting to get real old. I for one I'm tired of gay vampires, and tired of reading the same story over and over again. Some parts of the book are well written, even addictive, but most of the book retells the same stories, already told, and lacks creativity.

Summary: The Anne Rice formula in full effect here
Review: Anne's books are becoming increasingly formulaic, from Pandora onward. We have the introduction, the main part of the book which is the 'life story' and then a resolution which ties in whatever threads of plot were brought out in the introduction (which usually are forgettable five minutes after reading them) and the main part all together, and usually said ending is a quick flurish of pages (no more than 10-20 pages) that is supposed to wrap things up all nicely, complete seemingly with cute little bow. This book falls into the same trap. The main part with Marius' story is excellent. Tremendous. Probably the most interesting thing Rice has written since Tale of the body thief. But like the rest of her newer vampire books, the shoddily written introduction and the horribly contrived conclusion just left a horrible taste in my mouth. Same with Blackwood Farm. Same with Pandora. Same with Vampire Armand. I could go on and on here. Come on Anne, ditch the formula and bring back the magic that you have from Interview iwth the Vampire through Tale of the Body Thief!

Summary: The Best of "The Chronicles" yet!!!
Review: This was absolutly the pinnacle of all of Anne Rice's works. I could SEE every scene and every character vividly in my mind as I read. It gives one a personal understanding of Marius, and it gives another take on some of the previous stories. I feel that it is a work of art in writing. Not one of the Vampire Chronicles has touched me like this one has, and I have loved them all. It is rich with history and culture, feeling and emotion. It is worth reading again and again. There is no need to summarize the book, I could not do it justice. The insight that she gives the reader into what it feels like to live over 2000 years is AMAZING. Deserving of 5 stars!!!...

Summary: Come on! Finish the cliffhanger already...
Review: Can someone tell me WHAT is up with Anne Rice lately? I really enjoyed Merrick and loved the cliffhanger, but she fails to do anything to resolve the cliffhanger in this novel, ostensibly a sequel. Also, I found Marius' life to be incredibly boring until he got further into the present time. At that point, it seemed almost like Anne got sick of writing the book and she wrapped it up quickly and rather bizarrely. Marius is telling his story to a vampire we are introduced to, one made by Maharet, Thorne. His story seems as if it would be interesting, but alas, only tidbits are thrown out there and then his story is used to wrap up the novel. Why do we even care about this guy? Of course I am going to continue to read the Chronicles - unfortunately I've been sucked in!

Review: I have been an Anne Rice fan for a long time now and I was always fascinated with the character Marius. When I heard about this book I purchased it and started reading it right away. I could not tear my self away from it. I fell in love with it, although I have to admit at first I was a little confused ,but as I read more it all made sense. This is the most amazing piece of literature I have ever read and it is defiantly the best book in the vampire chronicles. Although the book does repeat a lot from Rice's previous books I thought the brief summarize were helpful to recollect things that I have read before. I love how Marius told his perspective about things that have already been written about in other books such as Pandora, the vampire Armand and the vampire Lestat. Everything about this novel was hypnotic and magical. Mrs. Rice wrote Blood and Gold with such passion and emotion that this book has stayed with me ever since I read it and at times I find myself thinking about the powerful sense that were depicted in this novel. I know I have to read this book again. Now I have started reading Merik and it is just not the same, I always compare it to Blood and Gold and I just cant finish it, although it is a very good book as well....just not as good as blood and gold. I recommend it to everyone who is a Anne Rice fan as well as to people who have never read any of her previous vampire books. To those of you who expect a scary vampire story this is defiantly not a horror book but an amazing drama and love story.

Summary: Got my Vamp fix, but beyond that...
Review: Every year or so, I need a little Vampire fiction in my life... that's just the way it is with me. From that standpoint, Blood and Gold was satisfying. However, I think the plot gets slow and redundant in spots, and the over-story of the Norse vampire was undertold. I don't think this ranks in my top 5 Anne Rice books.

Review: I don't know what everyone is going on about. I think this is the best Anne Rice book to come out in a long time. I am a huge fan of the vampire chronicles and they have been pretty boring until this one. I didn't enjoy The Vampire Armand, or Pandora. This one was a much better story and I didn't think it went too much into the storylines that we already knew about. I think if you are a true fan of Anne Rice's work, this book should be high on your list.

Summary: This wasn't very good...
Review: I love Anne Rice, but she seems to not have really gotten any where with this book. It was basically the same story we've all heard before from some uninteresting point of view. It never really went anywhere, and the ending was not very impressive. I was embarassed by reading this. I hope Anne wakes up and gets back to her good old self.
