Summary: Maybe life gets ideas from fiction
Review: Maybe terrorists aren't beyond getting their ideas from a book. Perhaps Clancy shouldn't be praised as such a visionary for scheming realistic plots of terror. Having come out 4 years ago, this book may possibly have been a spark for the recent tragedy.

Summary: Wow.
Review: I think that this is seriously one of the best books that I've ever read. The scary part is that this book starts with a plane crashing into the Capitol building, and I began to read this book on Monday, September 10th, the day before the planes crashed into the WTC and the Pentagon. That was truly bizarre. I think this book is a good read, although it did make me kind of scared to wake up in the morning, hoping that the book was not coming true.

Summary: Tom Clancy predicts the future?
Review: Just a very exciting book;however Tom Clancy worryingly seems to predict the future!! Nothing is sacred and I'm afraid life is stranger than fiction. I hope we all read Tom Clancy's books with real interest in future.
God bless America!

Our thoughts are with you all,

Fond regards from Great Britain.

Summary: So life does imitate fiction...
Review: In the aftermath of the horrible tragedy that hit the US on September 11th, I keep hearing from everywhere in the world exclamations of the sort "Who would have thought they would strike like this!" and "Nobody could ever imagine what happened".

Well, someone did. The moment I heard the news of the first crash, I thought "this can't be happening, I've read this in a book with Jack Ryan, it's some kind of advertising trick for a movie based on this book". Sadly, it was true. And for this only, the book deserves 5 stars. I bet Mr. Clancy himself is right now staring aghast to the TV screen, seeing that life sometimes does imitate good fiction...

Let us just wish, for the sake of the planet who shares in US's sorrow, that the hard nationalistic, right-windish & purely capitalist outlook presented by Mr. Clancy in the book will not utterly prevail in reality, although I personally do not have very high hopes.

Summary: Similarity with DC and NY?
Review: I have to say that I haven't read this book, but there seems to be (from what I have been told) incredible similarities between the story of a hijacker of a commercial aircraft that ploughs itself into the US Capitol during congress and wiping out the entire government and that of the terrorist events that happened today. The events that have just happened in the US on 11-9-01 see some similarity where fiction becomes an unfortunate reality. I will be reading this book out of sheer interest to compare the two. The terrorist attack on the US is absolutely devestating and my heart goes out to all the victims, families, friends, rescue volunteers and the people of Manhattan.

Summary: Excutive Orders Delivers
Review: This book is incredible. This is also my first experience with a Tom Clancy Novel. I've read reviews that the story was too long or what have you. I disagree. Storytelling is a lost art and I believe the more you put into it the better it gets. Tom deifnatly has a gift for writing 4 different stories and in the end, tying them all together. I am definatly hooked on his stuff.

Summary: Long but good
Review: I bought this book awhile back and with my summer vacation I finally had the chance to tackle this long book. It's 800 plus pages in the hardcover version. Anyway like some reviewers have said here you need to read the other books if you want to be clear on everything that is going on in this book. The story was good typical Clancy stuff and I consider myself a fan. The negatives for this novel is that this could have been cut down at least 200 pages. Takes too long to get going but once everything is in place then the story takes off. The only other negative is that there is a story of some Mountain Men and for me it was a waste could have been cut altogether and the novel would have been fine. One final thing, the politics that President Ryan has is a little simliar to Bush, for some people that might be great and while for others it might be a little spooky. :)

Summary: Good But Way To Long
Review: I am certainly glad I chose to listen to this one. I don't think I could have read something this long. For Mr. Clancy, this was a good book but not outstanding because of the length. Don't know why I always choose the unabridged versions.

After a Japanese 747 is deliberately crashed into the capital and most of the country's political leaders are killed, including the President, Jack Ryan takes over. What can make matters worse then an Ebola threat to the USA? Read or listen and find out.

I have always liked the character of Jack Ryan. Mr. Clancy makes him so vivid and life like. Mr. Prichard did a wonderful job at the narration. This book, though very descriptive at times (typical Clancy) still had plenty of action.

What I didn't like about this book was simple, way to long. I enjoy books both reading and audio, buth this is one that I really don't think I would have finished had I been reading it.

My advice to anyone who wants to listen to this audio book, get the abridged version. Mr. Clancy, please, you are a great author but your books are becoming way too long.

In addition to this book, I have either read or listened to serveral of Mr. Clancy's other works. My favorites are "The Hunt for Red October" and "Red Storm Rising". My least favorite was "Rainbow Six", again a little long.

The only author I can think of in this genre to compare with Mr. Clancy is Clive Cussler. Both men write excellent action packed books and have great lead characters, Mr. Clancy had Jack Ryan and Mr. Cussler has Dirk Pitt. If you enjoy this genre, don't hesitate to read this book or anything by Mr. Clancy or Mr. Cussler. Neither has ever written a below average novel.

Summary: Long book, but a good one at that.
Review: Executive Orders is 1,358 pages long. Not a book for the easily distracted. It took over a month and a half to read.

President Jack Ryan is a wonderful character, and in spite that I disagree with the character's political views, I can't help but wish that we had a real Jack Ryan in the White House. The other characters such as Cathy Ryan (the first lady), Andrea Price, John Clark and Ding Chavez are great characters also. It confronts a lot of issues, such as chemical warfare, the media, and political intergity. The plot is outlandish enough to be interesting, but down to earth enough to be believable.

I found the war scenes near the end of the book to be boring and too complicated. They don't help the plot one bit. This is the only weakness the book has, and otherwise, it is a great read.

Summary: Wanted a Presidential Novel and I got one!
Review: This was the first novel I read in my recent novel readings. I was a little unsure because of the size of the book (over 1,000 pages) and I haven't cared for the Tom Clancy movies. This book had great depth and knowledge of the Secret Service and Military Hardware. The politics in this novel were great from Ed Kealty to Tom Donner. I enjoyed Arnie Van Dam, John Clark and Ding Chavez. I also like Agent Andrea Price and plot with Aref Raman was great. The reason this book gets a four instead of a five is because of the one hundred or so pages of blow by blow military jaron that I just did not care for or was not interested in paying attention. The end came to a nice conclusion and kept my attention. My next conquest is the Bear and the Dragon and I hope I like it.
