Rating: Summary: I was a captive audience for this book! Review: I just finished reading Executive Orders - and it was one of Tom Clancy's best. I was a captive audience for the 2 weeks it took me to finish it. It is somewhat difficult to keep all the characters straight for the first few hundred pages but it was suspenseful and well-written.
The unfortunate thing about recommending this book is that you must read all Clancy's previous books relating to Jack Ryan in order to understand some of the plot line. Without having read the Sum of all Fears, you would have no idea of the background of the Ayatollah. There are other characters returning in this novel who have appeared elsewhere and their background is important to this novel.
This book leaves me wondering if this is the end of Jack Ryan. I can't wait to see if Clancy has more in store.
Rating: Summary: Another Great Novel from Clancy Review: Clancy did it again!!! It was right up there with "Dept of Honor" and "Without Remorse" (my personal favorites), definitely one of his best. I really enjoyed how the author exposed the power of politics and especially press in politics. It's an eye opener that sheds a light on why our government can be so impotent. A Must Read. Thanks again Clancy..
Rating: Summary: Another Clancy Hit!! Review: Jack Ryan for President. The perfect book for the conservative in your family. This book is definitely not for any liberal bedwetters in the audience. Ryan runs the White House the way it should be run
Rating: Summary: An incredible tome that must be read Review: In this, the latest Tom Clancy thriller, Jack Ryan takes on the greatest task ever asked of him by becoming President. Though the book seems to lose focus a few times, the last 200 pages were reminiscent of Patriot Games. They just seem to fly by! The ending is not a real shocker either, but for an almost 900 page book, it does not have to be. Every aspect of Mr. Ryan's character is explored, so this is a must-read for true Tom Clancy fans
Rating: Summary: Tremendous Book! Review: I have read all of Tom Clancy's novels and I think that this is his best by far. From the first page till the last page he has you sitting on the edge of your seat wondering what will happen next to Jack Ryan and his family. I really had problems putting this book down and am really looking forward to his next book
Rating: Summary: Greatest Book Bargin of the Century (on a per month basis) Review: I paid about $25 for Executive Orders and finished it in only 5 months! What a deal! Five full months of Jack Ryan angst for only $5.00 per month! Oh yes, I also got up close and personal with Ebola, a badly executed kidnapping, a cement truck full of fertilizer and diesel fuel, a confused Secret Service agent, a very bad dictator, and a replay of the Gulf War (Readers Digest version). What I wanted (and still hope for) is a novel of the quality and intensity of Red Storm Rising. I've read all of Clancy's novels waiting for this. One hint for Mr. Clancy; guess who wasn't in that one?
Rating: Summary: Outstanding Review: Some books deserve the highest accolades, some don't. This one does, and so here's mine! Loved the way the press was portrayed... sounds like real life. Good plot lines, except for the mt men plot that fizzled. The rest was excellent, and a real page burner, turner. Couldn't put it down! Stayed up all night to read it, and haven't done that for a long time. Not a book to read a bit at a time. It will definitely get you. Sorta like a pirana ... one bite and you can't stop
Rating: Summary: Jack Ryan has become an exceptional hard-nosed President. Review: The book was very entertaining and intriging, whick keep me enthralled with anticipation. I liked the book for its
consistency with the integrity and conscience of the
character Jack Ryan. I also liked the book for the way
the author keep me excited with the suspense of the next
scene. The book's excellant technical context is a major reason I continue to read novels by Tom Clancy.
Rating: Summary: Great book. Read it as fast as you can. Review: I really enjoy Mr. Clancy's books. I had to go back and read the ending of "Debt of Honor" so I could properly prepare myself for the beginning of this book. That is one thing about his books. If you haven't read his previous books, you are at an immediate disadvantage. He tends to have too many scenarios moving about and too many characters to keep track of. I find myself looking back and forth just trying to keep things straight. "Executive Orders" was an excellent book, and I found that I had to read it the way I read all his books - start to finish as quickly as possible. You put it down for more than a few days, you're dead (so to speak). Everything else stops - no work at home, kids' basketball, etc - don't bother me now. I agree with another review that you cannot read 10 minutes a night at bedtime and expect to enjoy it (first of all, it would take five years to get through the book!) The cement truck situation started big and fizzled. The rest of the book was great. I agree with Mr. Clancy's view of politics and his interpretation of the world. I am afraid of the weirdos in the world reading this thing and trying something like it. Pretty scary that one secretary from the cabinet is now required to stay away from a joint meeting of congress, the supreme court, President and VP, etc. Wonder if someone in congress read this and thought "Hmmmm, maybe we ought to avoid that situation." I'm waiting for Mr. Clancy's next book to find out what Jack Ryan will do - will he or won't he? Will he or won't he what? Exactly
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: I have read all the books in the "Jack Ryan Series" with the exeption of The Hunt for Red October and I think that this is the best one so far. The only problem is that it gets very technical with the Ebola part
