Rating: Summary: Clancy's worst effort Review: It's surprising that other reviews have mentioned his misogynist attitudes and not his Islamaphobic themes as well. I suppose that most Americans agree with his views on Islam and Muslims but it remains that this book is downright hateful. Even without his overplayed biases, the book is much too long, plodding, and even boring in many parts. What happened to this once-fine author?
Rating: Summary: Clancy's Back WITH A VENGEANCE Review: Clancy's book sure is long but it is well worth the read, and takes you from one scenario to another. I especially love the Iranian Ebola Zaire twist and the ending where Daryeai gets his just desserts. Another stunner from Tom Clancy, the world's greatest.
Rating: Summary: Another great adventure with Jack Ryan Review: I enjoyed this book! It is almost frightening in the fact that the world really could have that problem. And wouldn't it be great to have a President like Jack? I grew up a military brat and enjoy books with military action. This book is very long and absorbing, so make sure you have plenty of reading time cause you won't want to put it down. It will grab you, set you down anywhere, and just pull you in. Happy reading!
Rating: Summary: Bold, Thrilling, Daring, Exceptional Review: "Executive Orders was an exceptional thriller, difficult to put down, and saturated with intense details into very elaborate plots. I have read all of his books, and loved most. However, looking back at this read, It seems to lack in the editing department. The plots went absolutely no where near the finish of the book. The Ebola just went away, with no further reaction from the public or medical community. Ed Kealty just disappeared. The "Mountain Men"? Huh? (The only REALLY bad sub-plot Clancy has written.) The India/PRC/ROC sub-plots could have been something really great, but just died. (Waiting on the sequel?) Where were all the other Cabinet members? (Not important, sure, but all the other realistic details require it.) What happened to the Supreme Court? What happened to Badrayn? Movie Star? What about Turkmenistan? And all the untapped riches of oil in the Caspian Sea that goes unmentioned? The book actually needed about 500 MORE pages, but about 200 of the existing ones torn out. I, like many, first read Tom Clancy's "Hunt for Red October". However, I did not care much for it at all. Being a crewmember aboard a nuclear fast-attack submarine, I found it to be a far cry from anything realistic. Not the plot- (after all, it is fiction) but the technical submarine information. Oddly enough, I was onboard the U.S.S. Miami when he wrote his "Submarine- a guided tour inside a nuclear warship" book about our SSN. This book is also full of errors regarding U.S. submarines. Even so, Mr. Clancy grips me tight like no other author can. I find myself absolutely engrossed in all his Ryan novels from start to finish. I was amazed at, while reading this novel, I looked up to see Saddam and the Gulf on CNN once again. The tensions there made the book almost spooky. The tank battle finale almost put me to sleep, although the rest of the book was exceptional and politically daring. Although this is not Tom Clancy's best work, it ends up being a great read. The author continues to be one of the best at his profession.
Rating: Summary: 100% Excellent! Review: Executive Orders is a masterwork. This is the epitome of the Jack Ryan series. There is only one problem. Who are Kealty's cronies and who are just jerks.
Rating: Summary: Great Final Review: Clancy has done it again. Allthough it is a very long book it grabs you from page number one and dosn't let go until you've read the last. As the book progresses the tension grows and at the end is all explodes into a great final. After all it's a good book and fun to read. But there's also room for a little critisisme. I agree that the part of the mountain men is overdone and doesn't serve any purpose. The tank battle at the end is hard to follow, a little short and overwritten. But most of all Jack Ryan doesn't belong in the White House, he should be in the field.
Rating: Summary: An incredible adventure I didn't want to put down! Review: Tom Clancy has outdone himself! The through-the-eyes viewpoint of someone forced into the position of the most powerful figure in the world is amazingly fascinating. Tom Clancy captures the essence of the pressures, the temptations and the overwelming emotions of having such power in one's grasp. The story is a pleasure to read, and he ties the various sub-plots together into an exciting thrill-ride that leaves you breathless! This is by far the most interesting and entertaining book I have ever read. Everyone should read it just to get a better understanding of what it is like to be President.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT, WHAT THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE LIKE Review: CLANCY'S BEST BY FAR. THIS WAS GREAT. EXECUTIVE ORDERS PICKS UP WHERE DEBT OF HONOR LEAVES OFF. THE STROY LINE IS EXCELLENT, THE PLOTS DETAILED, MY ONLY CRITICISM WAS THAT THE BOOK SHOULD HAVE BEEN A LITTLE SHORTER. YOU GET THE FEELING THAT RYAN'S DECISIONS AND FRUSTRATIONS WITH GOVERNMENT ARE NOT JUST TOM CLANCY'S, BUT MINE, YOURS AND MOST EVERYONE'S. READ IT, BUT READ DEBT OF HONOR FIRST.
Rating: Summary: Not bad at all - read it in four days Review: The tank battle at the end dragged on and on, the mountain men bit was a little dissapointing - but I've read all the insults directed at this book and I disagree.. In my view this has got to be one of the best books I've read... I would certainly reccomend it to a Clancy reader.
Rating: Summary: Another Thriller From Tom Clance Review: Tom Clancy writes looong books. And it is just as well that he does since they are so engrossing that we are always left wanting more. While the plots are sometimes a bit on the unlikely side, Clancy weaves complex tales of "what might be" given the current poltical climate around the world and works them in with superbly and accurately researched subjects of technology, government, and science. But, these are not text books. Clancy is a master story-teller portraying the lives of real people burdened with desires, strengths, weaknesses, doubts, flaws, and warts. Executive Orders begins with the premise that a 747 has been deliberately crashed into the Senate chambers where recurring protagonist Jack Ryan finds himself launched from CIA spook to president of the United States of America. For a man who never sought government service, who served out of a sense of duty -- not desire -- this is a "fine mess". The Justices of the Supreme Court: all dead. Ditto for the Senate and the House of Representatives. At the same time, Iran seeks to wage war and China and India seek to test President Ryan's mettle with their own games. Iran's games are far more deadly however as they absorb Irag, invade Saudi Arabia, and launch a biological attack on the United States with the deadly Ebola virus. Quite a lot to handle for a president with no political experience! As unlikely a scenario as all of this is, this is a taut, suspenseful read. Unlike earlier Clancy novels, this one seems to continually build up to something bigger which is eventually the land battle in the Saudi desert near the end of the book. Whereas in earlier Clancy novels the story would have focused on the conflicts, this story focuses on the difficulties in managing the conflicts by a man who seeks to do his best, frailties and all, under circumstances not of his choosing. This is not Clancy's best novel. I personally reserve that prize for his "Red Storm Rising" or possibly "Hunt For Red October". Even still, this book stands head and shoulders above the typical polictal suspense fare both in the quality of the writing and the superbly researched subject matter. Grade: A-.
