Rating: Summary: I, quite literally, could not put it down! Review: I read both Debt of Honor and Executive Order in just over a week. I loved it! I have been reading a lot of the reviews on this web site and, while most people thought it was at least a "9", there were still a few who took exception to it, mostly non-intellectuals, otherwise known as Democrats or Liberals. I say this because they downplayed his ideologies, even taking time to trash Rush, although he had nothing to do with the book, rather than let the man express himself in his work, something most artists and writers are allowed to do. People, you don't have to agree with his political views to enjoy the book. The story was a great one, and I enjoyed every step of the way to get to the end. One "reviewer" on this web site said it took them 5 months to read--5 MONTHS???? It it took me less than 5 days to read it! Tom Clancy should be proud of this one! I would put it up there with Red Storm Rising and Patriot Games, 2 of my favorites by him. If you don't like it personally, fine, but don't attack the man because you don't like his views, he is entitled to them. Clancy is by far my favorite author.
Rating: Summary: Executive Orders is a thing of beauty!!!!!!!! Review: If Bill Clinton ever reads this book he will feel inadequate and want to go back and do it right. Jack Ryan is and should be the criteria for our next president. Tom is a brilliant writer and almost out did "Clear and Present Danger" with this book. His intelligence and wealth of technical information is enough to make a real life spy jealous. He has my vote and I would help him with all I know if I could. A definate (10) a must read whether you are a fan or not, but don't start it if you need your beauty sleep because you won't be getting any for a while.
Rating: Summary: Did not really get any thing done. Review: Un like all of Tom Clancy's other novels, Executive Order did not really accomplish any of the tasks it need to do at the start of the book (such as rebuild the government, figure out what China was up to ...) Unlike all Tom Clancy's other works, The book starts out extreamly slowly, with nothing really happning in the first half. The second half finally has some action with the Ebola attack and other things, they soon boil over. The story had a lot of pontential, but I think that the book's execution was flawed.
Rating: Summary: Clancy as the Ayn Rand of Technothrillers Review: 500 pages too long with all the usual Clancy BS (one dimensional characters and contrived dialogue) along with a new batch of BS (a ponderous number of subplots, the majority of which end inconclusively or ridiculously, and scads of moral, social, and political commentary that can only be described as naive or sublimely ridiculous) I read Clancy for entertaining action, it seems he has lost his way from solid works of fiction like "Red Storm Rising" and "The Hunt for Red October". Clancy needs to shelf the Ryan franchise and start anew (Ops Center is pathetic), do what he does best, describe military hardware and tactics. Hopefully Clancy hasnt started to take himself too seriously, (honestly the man himself is 4-F, he could never have cut it in the military, so he bought his way in and lives vicariously through others, but hey, not that there is anything wrong with that, we read the books don't we)this book gives every indication that he has.
Rating: Summary: Hopefully the last Jack Ryan book Review: Overall an entertaining read. Good action and technical descriptions as usual. Hideously canned dialog and character interactions. Plot labors along early, as usual, but flows nicely through middle to the end. Awful segments of political and moral commentaries interspersed throughout. Hopefully Clancy will retire Jack Ryan (a character as overworked as Dirk Pitt) and move on to more "complete in itself" novels such as "Red Storm Rising". This is entertainment not reality, so enjoy.
Rating: Summary: This is by far one of Clancy's best! Review: This is Tom Clancy's best book since "The Hunt for Red October." This was a real page turner. I had the good fortune to read this book over my vacation, so I had plenty of time to sit and read. I did not want to put it down the suspence and action was incredible. It so beliveable, the thought that something like this could happen is chilling. It is deffinetly something to read when you get the chance.
Rating: Summary: His Best Yet Review: It is obvious from reading the reviews of this book, the reader either hates it or loves it. When I buy a Tom Clancy book, I know what If am getting -- imagination, technology, and an unbelievable ending. Tom Clancy outdid himself and I don't think he can write a better book. This book had everything. I did not think that it was too long because I like a book that will last one week (I usually read these books on vacation). This was just right!
Rating: Summary: Read Debt of Honor First, this is part II of that story Review: When read with Debt of Honor, this is the dymanic and exiciting conclusion (?) of the Jack Ryan saga. It does tie up loose ends a bit too quickly, and in that way is not as satisfying as it could have been, but the suspense and politics of the book are pure Clancy and a must read if you have read any of the Clancy "Jack Ryan" books. Even if you have only seen the movies, this should be a good read. You will not want to put it down.-Art Lynch,
Rating: Summary: Mr. Clancy does it again !!! Review: Tom Clancy has done it again. Excecutive ordes features: Jack Ryan who now has become president of "the free world" USA. This Book is good, but it is to damn long. In my version witch is an overseas version there is 1272 pages, with a vary small writing. But then after all, it is a good book, and if you have read The hunt for Red October, Ob-center etc. then read this.
Rating: Summary: The best of Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series Review: captivating from the 1st word to the last. Ihave read all of Clancy's works and this is his best. Clancy sets a fast pace and keeps you glued to the page.also, it is a very interesting look at the presidentsy and how a "common" man might deal with the job. all in all a very exiting, interesting and enjoyable read
