Rating: Summary: NOT HIS BEST, BUT WELL WORTH THE READ. Review: EXECUTIVE ORDERS IS DEFINATELY THE BOOK YOU WANT TO READ IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN HOW EXACTLY THE DEADLY EBOLA VIRUS STRIKES YOUR SYSTEM IN VERY ACCURATE DETAIL, OR IF YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE PRESIDENT DOES DAY AFTER DAY. THE BOOKS STORY PICKS UP RIGHT WHERE DEBT OF HONOR LEFT OFF, JACK RYAN AS PRESIDENT. WHAT'S NEXT FOR JACK, A TRIP TO THE MOON? IF YOUR LIKE ME YOU WISH MR. CLANCY WOULD RETIRE THE CHARACTER OF JACK RYAN AND EXPLORE SOME OF HIS OTHER CHARACTERS (CLARK IS MY PERSONAL FAVORITE) OR MAKE UP SOME NEW ONES. THE STORIES IN EXECUTIVE ORDERS ARE ALL WELL THOUGHT OUT AND EXCITING ONCE YOU ARE ABOUT 800 PAGES IN BUT BEFORE THAT BE PREPARED TO SIT THROUGH COUNTLES SPEECHES BY THE NEW PRESIDENT PREACHING HIS NEW PLAN OF USING INEXPERINCED JUDGES AND POLITICIANS TO RUN THE ALREADY TROUBLED COUNTRY. THE KEALTY SUBPLOT BORED THE HELL OUT OF ME. THE MOUNTAIN MEN THING WENT ABSOLUTELY NO WHERE FAST AND COULD HAE SHORTENED THE BOOK BY ABOUT 200 PAGES. THE EBOLA STRIKE ON THE US FINALLY CAUSES SOME ACTION AND THE CHINA VS. TAWANIESE THREAT IS INTERESTING. I PERSONALLY ENJOY THE LITTLE ESCAPADES MR. CLANCY CREATES FOR MR. CLARK AND DING. (THE LASERING OF THE PLANES IN DEBT OF HONOR COMES TO MIND, AND THE RESCUE OF KOGA) THIS BOOK DID KEEP ME TURNING THE PAGES TORWAD THE END AND THE TANK BATTLE WAS THRILLING. I THINK DAREYI-WHATEVER HIS NAME WASGOT WHAT HE DESERVED BUT HE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN IT IN SUM OF ALL FEARS. I PATIENTLY AWAIT THE NEW CLARK NOVEL "RAINBOW SIX" COMING OUT IN AUGUST.
Rating: Summary: Excellent book. I recommend it to others all the time. Review: Mr. clancy has researched all his books very well and this is no exception. The story is believeable, and is just a hairsbreadth away from actually coming true. Both books rivetted my attention, and I can hardly wait for another one to come out.
Rating: Summary: what a book Review: Executive Orders made me proud to be an American. I must have reread the phone conversation between Ryan and the Indian PM 50 times. "We will make war with all the power and rage this country and her citizens can muster." (something like that...for all my reading, I haven't memorized it......yet)It brings me chills. This is his best ever. I felt that Debt of Honor was weak, and if I had Mr. Clancy's ear I'd tell him where he could stick the Op-Center series, but this one was a real home run.
Rating: Summary: Great entertainment but would someone please edit this book? Review: As usual, Mr. Clancy provides a very entertaining book. I have to wonder, though, if anyone really edited it. He often diverges and wanders--aimlessly--through pseudo-political theories and pseudo-ethical treatises that don't add anything to the novel or the reader's enlightenment. This hefty book could be about a third lighter.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Listening Review: I've been listening now to numerous Audio Editions from multiple authors and this along with ICON from Forsythe is one of the best. Highly recommended if you like moving books.
Rating: Summary: Caveat Lector Review: Caveat lector: If you haven't liked Tom Clancy books in the past - surprise - you probably won't like this one. I'm amazed at how many people who rated the book as less than a 4 still managed to plod their way through a 1400 page book; apparently just so they could write a scathing review at Amazon.Com. How can we trust people for whom it takes 1400 pages and 6 months to decide that they hate a book? We all have personal tastes in reading, and if a 1400 page is still boring you by page 500, do something better with your time. And as far as being "preachy:" I haven't read many books recently that weren't. In "Airframe", Crichton lambastes the mainstream press. In "The Rainmaker", Grisham takes on the Insurance giants. If you want pure story telling without any preaching, you might try something like Faulkner's As I Lay Dying - a wonderful book (and short). As for "Executive Orders" - I found it to be a fascinating, and, knowing Clancy, realistic view of Presidential life. Politics, war, terrorism, spying...If you like this kind of stuff, you'll like this book - just make sure you set aside enough time to read it in less than a week or two: if you read this book piecemeal over a period of months, you might forget the nuances of each of the subplots (at least 7) and the book will lose its pace. If you're like me, and a lot of other reviewers on this page, you'll have a hard time putting it down.
Rating: Summary: very good!!! Review: When I finished Debt of Honor, I definitely had to read this book. And now I have. It's one of mr Clancy's best books ever with Jack Ryan as president of the US. A very good story, even if Ryan isn't as tough as in the other books, but it is definitely a novel I'm going to read again and again and again... The longer the book Clancy writes, the better.
Rating: Summary: Stop preaching!!!! Review: Why do good B authors feel that they can preach as soon as they have a few best sellers? A good thriller ruined by Clancy's political preaching. What are lectures on the capital gains tax and abortion doing in a thriller? I skipped large sections.
Rating: Summary: A fantastic Clancy Novel Review: This book took me about a month to read (During the school year), and I loved it. A fantatstic sequel to Debt of honor. Long, but well worth the time reading it.
Rating: Summary: LONG AS HELL! BORING! WHAT'S HAPPENED TO MR TOM? Review: I've always bought the hardback cover of Mr. Clancy's books. I don't know why I chose to buy the paperback this time but I'm glad I did. Not only would I have wasted my time thinking it would get better but I would have been out the extra money. Whew! In view of recent events ie..Anthrax/biological warfare and previous world happenings, he's usually not far off the money. Only for that reason did I rate this book a "5". Otherwise, would probably have gone a "2". This book was surely much too long, conclusions that came from who knows where and too much to do 'bout nothin'.
