Rating: Summary: Tom Clancy's BEST to date !!! Review: I won't try to undervalue Mr. Clancy's work by trying to summarize this book in this spot. But I will say that "Clancy" is the best Political Thriller author on the market today. He is second to none and no one can even come close. But you do have to read all of his other books in order to be up to speed on this Political/Techno-Thriller. "Jack Ryan is the type of president this country is crying for." A political leader who has NO political agenda. Simply put ... "The BEST !"
Rating: Summary: Executive Orders offers intrigue but also tedium Review: I don't think this is Clancy's best book ever. The Ebola threaat, the Iran/Iraq merger, and the assassin within the Secret Service were all fascinating but the book is bogged down with too many trite and idealistic speeches and tedious detail about the presidency. For example we don't have to be told three or four times that the president's plane is a VC-30 which is code named "Air Force One". I just felt that a lot of the analysis of domestic politics was oversimplified and was not really necessary. I agree that a good editor could have trimmed this book down to 600 pages without losing the suspense. It seemed idiotic that Jack Ryan took the VP job and had no idea that he would ever become president. COME ON! Ryan's naivete kind of got on my nerves. I mean it wasn't like he was an outsider to Washington who just fell off a turnip truck.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding! Could this really happen in the U.S.? Review: I've always enjoyed reading Tom Clancy. Executive Orders is a book you have great difficulty putting down. His research and insight bring great meaning to his stories. It all seemed so real that at times it was hard not to mix reality with his fiction. I can hardly wait for the next book. Keep up the great work!
Rating: Summary: The best book I've read so far Review: This book totally grabbed me. Never before have I been so consumed by a novel that I felt for the characters, wanted to laugh with the characters and cry with the characters. Everytime I stopped to take a break I was left overwhelmed by my emotionas.
Rating: Summary: Challenging and intrigueing. Review: The fact that the storyline continues as Jack Ryan as President is fantastic. It really gives the reader an inside view of how our government would function should there ever be situations such as the ones experienced in the story. Clancy can certainly keep a reader riveted to the book! I cannot wait for the next book to be released.
Rating: Summary: Inspired by the most entertaining preacher ever? Review: If you don't enjoy learning something while being entertained, don't read this book. This rather wide volume is chock full of political commentary and "This is how it should be.." preaching. I grew to love this style reading Robert A. Heinlein. They both craft entertaining stories and at the same time educate the public. I couldn't help but notice that the last chapter of Heinlein's Expanded Universe contains an awful lot of the same political "ought'a be's" as Executive Orders. If you are a fan of Clancy you should check out Heinlein and vice versa.
Rating: Summary: Great Review: This book was very entertaining from the beginning. I'm expecting the next step of Jack with great anxiety
Rating: Summary: A good reason why Clancy has stopped writing. Review: This is Clancy's first bona fide sequel, taking up exactly where Debt of Honor left off. As such, it's a little less egregious that he insists on using all the same old characters for every minor role. The battle scenes are still excellent, and his descriptions of hopelessly complex technical stuff, including the Ebola virus in this one, are his strong points. He again displays a total ignorance of espionage and how it works (with the CIA having exactly two field officers who do literally everything), and he relies on incredible coincidences for his sleuths to crack the mystery. As a conservative, I always love how he paints the liberals as limp-wristed, inept, corrupt swine, although he kind of goes over the top in this story. We can only hope that we have seen the last of Jack Ryan now, although at least Clancy didn't have have him slinging lead this time.
Rating: Summary: A great book!!! Review: It's pretty clear that you either couldn't put the book or you couldn't get through it. Although I do agree that the plot did drag a bit at times, and some of the sub-plots went nowhere, I did love the story. I made the mistake of reading this book before all of the others, so at times I couldn't understand what was going on. However, I reread the book after reading the others, and it added a lot to it. Overall, I think that it ranks right up there with some of his others.
Rating: Summary: Great Book, Thrilling, and the plot is quite possible Review: When I bought this book, I didn't think I would ever get through its 850 odd pages, but that preconception was soon removed from my mind. Once I had started reading it, I found it difficult to put down, resulting in my reading it into the small hours of the morning on more than one occasion. This is due to the fact that the book is stunningly realistic - and therefore at times quite frightening. This, along with the constant action make it an excellent book. I think my main problem with the book would be the difficulty getting into the multiple storylines - especially the Iranian/Libyan one. However, the effort it took soon paid off. The book is the latest (and quite possibly the last) Jack Ryan novel. It follows on from Debt of Honour, and starts off with Ryan having just been sworn in as President of the United States, a job which he did not want. Many groups and individuals do not want him as President either, for example ex Vice President Kealty. However, the main two storylines involve an attack on Saudi Arabia by the newly unified Iran and Iraq, and Ryan's radical ideas about how to run the government.
