Summary: Read this one last!
Review: Clancy's books usually read fast. This one doesn't really pick up until right at the end. Normally, I overlook his bland use of language because the plot and subplots are so rich. No such luck. Maybe this isn't really a 2 star book. But, if you want to read Clancy, look to his books. If you liked all those, punish yourself with this one.

Summary: Great stufff!!....But theres always a catch.
Review: If you're a regular reader of Clacy you will recognise the style from the cover alone. There is the suspense and the numrous thrills often afforded by this man... With the Ebola crisis and sleeping foriegn Iranians you rarely turn a page without first licking your lips... With a short and amusing story allowing you to visualise POTUS sharing a smoke with a total unknown you get sucked into the humanity of the whole situation... With interesting running comentaries of speeches and interviews made by and participated in by our man Jack you wonder if its ever going to go right for this guy... The list goes on but then you probably know that... Heres the catch...I'm a slowish reader and enjoy flicking back to recheck the odd name or date or something. This book may be quite daunting for certain individuals who are not used to the immense detail and feeling that is often sought after by Clancy. Anyway, I could hardly let go of this monster for about three weeks, eventually falling out the back cover and going p..p.pphew!!!

Summary: Clancy has gone commercial.
Review: Well, at least it makes a good boat anchor. Clancy has obvously gone off the deep end with his effort to "make money" by commercializing his book. Give us a break: He throws in the kitchen sink trying to cover every possible plot for a story. We have the Oklahoma City Bombing, so he includes the Mountain Men. We have ebola popularity, so he tries to capitalize on it. . . etc. etc. etc. I assume that his next book with include a trip to mars for Jack who is offered command while he single handedly stops Pakistan and China from blowing each other up with their newly tested nukes while China launches its new hi-tech missiles at the U.S. only to see them destroyed by the new beam particle laser that is mounted on Ryan's mars shuttle. Maybe someday, Clancy will leave a few popular plots out of his book so that another writer will have something current to write about. I think he has turned into the Wal-Mart of novels. So sad, for such a talented author.

Summary: Overkill
Review: This is a great book and definitely an overkill. Probably the first Clancy's book that sometimes becomes really boring - the suspense is here but you get tired being "suspended". It's also too sugary: patriotic, naive, too much bier und pretzel.

Summary: A GREAT STORY THAT KEEPS GOING AND GOING........
Review: AN EXCELLENT FOLLOW UP TO DEBT OF HONOR. I WAS WONDERING WHERE WE WOULD BE GOING FROM THERE AND I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. AS A MATTER OF FACT I JUST FINISHED REREADING BOTH BOOKS AND ENJOYED THEM MORE THIS TIME, EVEN WITHOUT ALL THE SURPRISES. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHERE HE TAKES US NEXT.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Good, but not nearly his best
Review: I read Dept Of Honor and loved it. I couldn't wait for the emanate sequal. I was a little disappointed, though I was probably looking for too much. Plus, some of the conserative views in the book bothered me. Still, if you usually like Clancy and liked "Honor" it's worth reading.

Summary: Much too long
Review: I bought this book for the summer holidays, but soon found more interesting lecture and never finished "Ex. O." The book is really confusing. It would have been better if it had had a third of its size. Some authors just dont mind what they're putting over the readers.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The single best novel I've read
Review: Definitely the shortest 1400 pages around. Once you read the first page, don't make any plans for the next few weeks!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Mr. Clancy is a Master, no one comes close.
Review: I will not try to sumarize this book in a paragraph, but I will say that Jack Ryan's life is as lively as James Bond's is, only Jack's seems a lot more realistic(at least very feasible). You end up wishing he was real and run for President.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Democrat as president, economy thriving, get used to it!!
Review: After reading all the reviews here, I've taken a new assessment of the book. It is a pile of conservative rhetoric no doubt. It definitely had a lot of plots that seemed to go nowhere. I loved the novel though.

I consider myself pretty liberal and I didn't mind the political drivel. Clancy is just weak and let's his political motives drive his writing. He's burnt up because there's a Democrat in the white house, and the economy's thriving.

He does need an editor who has balls though, and will say stuff like "that battle needs to be more thought out" or "you can't do that to a sovreign country" or "That's simply not within the realms of normal probability"

He's lost his touch somewhat, and you know what?

I'm going to be back in line waiting to pay 9 bucks for his next doorstop. He's headed for 2000 pages, and Jack Ryan being anointed king of the universe, most righteous and holy leader of all that's good, pure, and conservative.
