Rating: Summary: Clancy's political agenda shines through Review: I'm a big fan of Tom Clancy's writing. I loved all of his book from Red Storm Rising to Sum of All Fears. Unfortunately in this book Tom uses the device of Jack Ryan becomming president to spew his own conservative agenda for 1300 pages. Jack becomes president without all the corrupting campaigning, fund raising and promises most pols have to make and this would probably be a better way to get a president but, Tom's simplistic solutions to all the problems America faces in the 90's is just too pat.The Ebola main plot was compelling and drove me through the dozens of often meaningless subplots to find out how it all turned out. But in three weeks of slogging I was still a hundred pages from the climax and I had to return the book to the library. I was actually relieved that I wouldn't have to read any more. Tom should stick to the techno-thriller formula he's great at and leave the lecturing to political writers.
Rating: Summary: Executive order was like savoring my favorite dessert Review: Those who feel this book was too long should go back to reading golden books. I spent ten days on a personal retreat and took only this book and my laptop. The complex plot had me so rivited that without realizing it I would read 300 to 400 pages in a sitting. I hear nothing when I enter a Clancy novel(this irritates my husband to no end). When I exit his books I look around for my next one. Tom your books are addictive. Need less to say I loved the book(all 1358 pages).
Rating: Summary: It's the most exellent book to culminate an exellent serie. Review: Finally, our Hero Jack Ryan is "accidentally" placed in the Oval House in Washington as the President of The United States. It won't be an easy job, specially with the fact that a lot of enemys appear to make Jack's job much more difficult, but John Patrick Ryan is much more than a smart guy, and all the problems (of course) can be resolve on time to make this thriller the most amazing story ever writte by Tom Clancy. He is a genious and this book prove it.
Rating: Summary: A+ Fascinating Review: This book is a perfect culmination of the series. Jack Ryan's character is very well thought out and this book is tied in together with the rest of the series very well. Can be read on its own and be understanding, but adds new life after reading the rest of the series. I've never read so much in my life as i have trying to catch up with all Tom's books.
Rating: Summary: This book is awesome Review: I hear many people who don't like this book say it's too long, or too confusing, or it didn't hold my attention. The only thing I can say to this is "Get a freakin' brain!!" You'll need one if you ever want to read something by a great author like Tom Clancy. This is one of the best stories I have ever read. If you love to read great books with great stories, READ THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: Too long, but still entertaining Review: This book, while hideously long, still manages -- barely -- to hold your attention all the way through. I could do without rambling, disjointed conservative lectures about abortion and defense spending, but with Clancy you take the very bad with the good. And there are many things to like about it, particularly the vivid writing that even makes Iran/Iraq politics seem interesting. The battle scenes, as always, are well-done and contain by far the best passages. Overall, however, the book needs a severe editing job. The first few hundred pages were extremely difficult to follow as the action jumped around innumerable times with no headers or identifying text. I quickly became nostalgic for the clearly labeled sections of Red Storm Rising. Much of the dialogue seems to be derived from a 1940's WWII movie. And, many sub-plots make no sense, lead nowhere and are distracting. Just because Mr. Clancy CAN write 1,300 pages doesn't necessarily mean that they're all wort! h leaving in the book. One final note to Mr. Clancy: Please, no more laughable dedications to Reagan. I don't buy bestsellers written by popular authors to have hare-brained political agendas shoved down my throat right from the dedication page.
Rating: Summary: Undue hatred shines through Review: I have keenly read all of Clancy's books from the first one. I have always liked his narration skills etc. After Executive Orders I was really disturbed. See I write from India. There are some passages in the book which is not worthy of Clancy. Andrea Price says reg. Indira Gandhi's assasination " even though she had not sworn to protect such person's life". Is it that Indira Gandhi was not worthy of being protected from assasination. I can understand hatred but this sort of dirision is hard to stomach. I do not think India has at any time meant harm to any body. Poetic license be damned. It really left me with a bad taste in the mouth.
Rating: Summary: Awesome!! The best book I've ever read!!! Review: Yes! This is the usual awesome, suspenseful clancy novel. Mant things taking place all of the time. Who would ever imagine the destruction of the whole U.S. Government?!!! A truly great book. I couldn't put it down!!!! Read the book, you wont be dispointed!!!
Rating: Summary: Tom Clancy is the MASTER of modern fiction Review: Executive Orders is -without a doubt- one of the best, most exciting books I have ever read. Fans of previous Clancy works will love this latest installment, which provides action, suspense, and vivid human drama using the story of a non-politician in one of the worlds most political jobs. I bought this book as soon as it came out- I had just finished gobbling down Clancy's other works in less than two months- and read it day and night (the whole time with my science teacher heckling me to loan it to him. With good detail and good information and direction, Clancy's works have reached their highest point with Executive Orders
Rating: Summary: One of Clancy's Best! Review: This is one of his best. It shows you what Jack Ryan is like behind the CIA super action hero, and is masterfully crafted.
