Rating: Summary: Approaching Clancy's best work........... Review: I've read this book a lot of times, from my view point this book had it all and then some. The plot and the sub plots within the book are up to Clancy's high standards. He is to be commended for this fine piece of work, and for the timely warnings that are impicitly implied by the topics raised by the book.
Rating: Summary: An excellent if lengthy novel Review: Tom Clancy does not disappoint in this edition of the Jack Ryan saga. His plots and subplots are as involving as ever, and his experience and skill at creating the tension so neccessary in a work of this size shine through easily. However, the sheer weight of this work is mostly unnoticed as one gets caught up in the book very quickly. This is a must-read book for nearly all age groups, but one really must have read the other books (Hunt for Red October, Clear and Present Danger, Patriot Games, and Debt of Honor) in order to fully grasp Clancy's expertise. Read it!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful mix of politics and action - a real page-turner. Review: Executive Orders is a terrific mix of politics and antipolitics. Jack Ryan is at his best as president! This book is my personal favorite out of the Jack Ryan series. Jack is the perfect president - non-political. Clancy has written a real winner! The action does not stop in this book, it is one thing right after another. Executive Orders ist he one book out of this series that Clancy shows his true talent for writing a perfectly nonpolitical book. This book is not only excitng, but it sheds light on things like what being the president is really like. I liked this particular book also because it was the first one that I felt I really got to know Cathy in, too. Ten thumbs up!
Rating: Summary: Five pounds of (good) material in a ten pound bag. Review: The action set-pieces in Tom Clancy's novels are nearly always riveting. The trouble is, they've become steadily fewer and farther between in his later novels . . . adrift in a sea of speeches, meetings, and tenuously connected subplots. The set pieces in _Executive Orders_ are as good as ever. They're also as far apart as ever, divided by vast stretches of skimmable filler. As a public service, I now offer a distilled version of the intervening bits: 1) Fanatics, politicians, and journalists are bad; 2) Soldiers, cops, doctors and nuns are good; 3) Jack Ryan, once merely good, should be canonized at once. This is an adequate book as it stands; judiciously edited (to, say, half its current length), it could have been a brilliant one.
Rating: Summary: This is Tom Clancy's best book ever! Review: Hurray for Jack Ryan. I like the political views that Tom Clancy assigns to Jack Ryan. It would be great to save our political system. Jack Ryan is the patriotic hero as always. Just better and with more power than before. The only way to make this better is to make a movie with Harrison Ford in it. Although this is a lengthy book. It is exciting through all 1300 pages.
Rating: Summary: A wonderful description of what would happen. Review: A wonderful description of what would happen if the president was killed
Rating: Summary: WORTH YOUR TIME Review: Seriously speaking,I was excited to find out that this book is thick. I took 3 days to finish it (forgot about sleep and food will ya?) and I want more. It is too short for me. What happen next?. Somebody please tell me. Jack Ryan is a good President but could Mr. Clancy please don't change hi,?. I like the way he is before. Don't change him to a politician. I should say this book is not perfect. The battle climax is confusing and what the heck happen to the mountain men?. As for the characters, Jack Ryan is the best in previous book. SURGEON had develop from only being a wife to a woman that can protect her husband if she wants to. Could mr.Clancy make Jack Ryan less dependent?. It seems that with all those Secret Service around him trying to protect him, for me, it made JR look so dependent unlike in the previous books. Overall, I can't wait for the continuiation. Got to save my money to buy new one.
Rating: Summary: if you want to kill your time - read it! Review: His good guys are soooo good - they save the world every now and then, they are very caring, extremely honest. I guess they all have big and clefted chins, blue and terribly sincere eyes. His bad guys are really bad. I wonder, why he did not put scenes, where some bad Iranians or Iraquis would devour alive small defenseless children with large and sad eyes? And just for the information of Tom Clancy: DNA and RNA consist of nucleic bases rather than aminoacids. He really needs an editor.
Rating: Summary: Waste of Time Review: This book was not only boring, but long. Instead of influencing peace in this world, this book influences war between countries in strife (Iran and USA). I personally feel like burning this book--but that is my opinion.
Rating: Summary: An Absolutely Fabulous, "Can't Put it Down" Read... Review: It had been a while since I read a Clancy book, and when I picked this one up in the airport book store, I realized how much I'd been missing. In this book, Clancy draws upon his talent for suspenseful, technical wordcraft, while at the same time bringing a certain personal touch to the characters that we haven't quite seen before. Took just over a month to read, and I wished it didn't end. Makes you proud to be an American....
