Summary: A Very Excellent book by Clancy
Review: Executive Orders takes just ONE minute after Debt Of Honor horrifying ending; with a plane crashed into the Congress building killing all of Congress, the Joint Chief's Of Staff, The Supreme Court, and the President Durling, along with the first lady. Who is left? Jack Ryan who was just sworn in as Vice President, now is POTUS! Now with the sorrow of a nation on his shoulders, now Jack has to bring back safe and heal wounds that was caused by this disaster. (Clancy predicated 9/11 5 years before it happen in Executive Orders, and Gulf War 2 if you think about it.) Now with no plan and no execution, he has to create a whole new government from SCRATCH!
While America mourns the lost of a President, here at home and around the world, people are watching, and they are planning to bring America to it's knees. One of the enemies being Mamoud Haji Darceyi and at home what Clancy calls 'The Mountain Men'.
Darceyi wants to see America gone forever, and the Mountain Men want to free America from the bulls*itters in Washington and bring back America for the people.
Now as President, Jack then makes a plan to build back Congress by having a early election, and asking state governments to run elections to make a new Congress, and now while doing this, Jack has to appoint new Supreme Court judges, and the hardships keep on coming for Jack.
In Africa, a nun comes down with Ebola, so with the help of other doctor, she is being taken care of, then he realizes that he could use this virus as a weapon, but for what? This he thinks long and hard. In America, the Mountain Men then gear up to buy a cement truck, and they plan to use it as a car bomb to blow up somewhere in Washington. As the book progresses, and America begins to lick their wounds, they are shocked to find out that Saddam is dead from a assassination coup from one of his bodyguards that were supposed to be loyal to him. So while this is happening, Darceryi gets in contact with the generals in the Iraqi Army and decide that Iraq and Iran should put it differences aside, and unite under Islam. This they call the United Islamic Republic: UIR, with their new flag green (the color of Islam) and two small gold stars representing Iran and Iraq.
While then, the nun is getting too sick, so she has to be transfered to Paris, so she is taken on a plane, and is supposed to be taken to France, but she is taken to Iran to have her blood transfused out of her body with the virus, isolate the virus, and take the main antibodies and use them to commit a biological terrorist attack on America.
The plane that the sick woman rode in called in mayday and they crashed before they got to France, Ding discovers this when he went to Iran and took some pictures and got the plane fin's number, which was used by Darceyi to travel from Terhan to Baghdad. So what is Darceyi using this plane if it crashed into the sea?
Back at home, the virus is then let loose, Jack Ryan orders everyone to get quartined, and to stop all travel and close all roads across America. So now as Jack see's Americans dying, he then finds out who did this and the finger points to this man: Darceyi. So with the proof, Jack then goes to war because they have plans to invade Saudi Arabia, so they defend KKMC: King Khalid Military City, and they win. Ding and John Clark head to Terhan as Russian photographers, they then set up shop, and they find where Darceryi is, and Jack orders him dead by a 2,000 pound bomb.
At home, the Mountain Men are caught thanks to a smart cop who noticed something strange when someone is driving a cement truck cross-country, he finds out the plot, and he spoils it. Ebola is no longer a problem because the virus fades out thanks to the climate of the region of the U.S. and again America is saved thanks to Jack Ryan.

One bad note; this novel is LONG, sometimes I think that Clancy writes too damn much for just one novel, I would understand 400 pages, but 1,000 for like every book he writes? Great novel though, just cut down the pages dude.

Summary: Executive Order - unbelievable and fascinating
Review: 'Executive Orders' opens with Jack Ryan, the hero of numerous Tom Clancy novels, having suddenly found himself President of the United States as the result of a terrorist attack that killed most of Congress personnel and the President(Pres. Roger Durling) that appointed Ryan as his vice-president. He is immediately launched into several crises as a terrorist organization, sponsored by the Iranian governmen, brings the e-bola virus to the U.S., introducing an outbreak. At the same time, the Iranian government, who is in cahoots with India, China, and Japan, is also taking over Iraq after having assassinated the leader. The world is on the cusp of major problems and the leader of the most powerful nation, arriving there without having been elected, has to answer the call. But, what's more, the former vice-president, who resigned because of a sex scandal, now claims that he should technically be the vice-president. Jack Ryan holds up under the pressure, but in order to bring the U.S. under control he has to enact martial law, closing down numerous major cities to prevent the spread of e-bola virus. This book is really a collosal read, reading this book is not wasting of time but instead a learning. I can absolutely relate of some situation on the book as Mr. Clancy's colossal imagination on our present nation-ill( as I think Philippines known in all over the world a circus-activities in politics) - Pres. John Patrick Ryan and with his wife Dr. Catherine Ryan sorrounded by a lot-of-beaurucrat, sorrounded by a lot of unscrupulous politician ( as resign-Vice-Pres. Kealty as one I mentioned) were on the first place responsible for distabilizing the government. So to everyone that love's Mr. Clancy's novel... don't mis dis one...

Review: you know i address dis to everyone who knew the the character - JOHN PATRICK RYAN - I've read the book of Mr. Clancy since CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER and it's so believable. Dis one is so great.Mr. Clancy really put the reader on excitement. Since i read EXECUTIVE ORDER just dis last few days even on the first page of the book you will find the excitement since JPR took the position as president of USA though Ryan didn't really much like the responsibility as president of a powerful nation. So to the fanatic reader of TOM CLANCY's novels, don't mis dis one.IT MUST BE READ.

Summary: Dire challenges for a new president
Review: If you've read "Debt of Honor", you know the incredible trials facing the new, unexperienced president. But that is only the begining.

The new president must rebuild the shattered United States government, as many congressman and staff members perished in a disaster during a joint session of Congress.

Forces from within and from without our borders take advantage of the presumed weak preseident, and weakened America. A legal battle challenges the legitimacy of the presidency...a WMD attack on American soil is plotted...Jack Ryan, the new president, and his family must survive attempts on their lives...and world stability is threatened as other countries are emboldened by America's inability to act.

The events that occur in "Debt of Honor", this novel, and "Rainbox Six" are eerily reminiscent of recent and current events, all the more so because all three books pre-date September 11th.

Summary: This book is the best book i have ever read.
Review: I read this book after my mom took about a three months to finish it. I couldn't put this boook down. The way Tom Clancy writes is amazing. The strings that he weaved together to create a complex plot kept me engrossed in this book. The complexety of his character and the way he developes them is prove of his talent. I would recomend this book to anyone. It will keep you spell bound for hours.

Summary: America under siege in Clancy classic chiller....
Review: In the horrific climax of Debt of Honor, former intelligence official and National Security Advisor (and briefly, Vice-President) Jack Ryan finds himself elevated to the Presidency...and in the sights of foreign and domestic adversaries. Even as the Capitol building smolders and the late President Roger Durling is laid to rest, unfriendly eyes are watching the new and untried President Ryan for signs of weakness...and begin plotting his -- and America's -- downfall.

In Iran, Ayatollah Mahmoud Haji Daryaei (one of the opponents of the Fowler Peace Plan in "The Sum of All Fears") broods in his office and begins to set in motion a series of crises that will tie up America's already over-extended military and intelligence services. Daryaei enlists not only his own operatives in Iran and abroad, but also the leaders of two other nations with global ambitions of their own. By creating a series of seemingly unrelated crises all at once, including an Iranian "merger" with Iraq and renewed tensions between the People's Republic of China and Taiwan, Daryaei hopes to distract American attention and pave the way for a savage attack on both President Ryan and millions of American citizens.

But Ryan has made many enemies at home, too, including the former Vice-President, Edward Kealty, who had been forced to resign in the wake of a personal scandal. With the skills and connections he has made during his many years in Washington, Kealty begins a campaign to remove the still-untried Ryan from the Presidency.

Clancy's huge novel is both compelling and complex, taking the reader from the ruins of the Capitol to the jungles of Africa and into the crowded streets of Tehran as President Ryan begins the awesome task of rebuilding a government decimated by a terrible act of revenge...and facing a loose confederacy of enemies bent on destroying his country, his family, and his life.

Summary: decent novel, Clancy has written better
Review: Summary:
'Executive Orders' opens with Jack Ryan, the hero of numerous Clancy novels, having suddenly found himself President of the United States as the result of a terrorist attack that killed most of Congress and the President that appointed Ryan as his vice-president.

He is immediately launched into several crises as a terrorist organization, sponsored by the Iranian government, brings the e-bola virus to the U.S., introducing an outbreak.

Jack Ryan holds up under the pressure, but in order to bring the U.S. under control he has to enact martial law, closing down numerous major cities to prevent the spread of e-bola. He also sends John Clark and some other members of Rainbow Six into Iran to assassinate the person running the show. When everything comes to a close, e-bola is contained, the quasi-hostile takeover of Iraq is stopped, and everything returns to normal.

My Comments:
The book wasn't too bad, but I really didn't see why the takeover of Iraq by Iran was such a big deal. Sure, international politics are sensitive and tricky, but considering the stability of the Iranian government, as opposed to the Iraqi government, I can't see how it's so bad that the government fell (maybe I'm naive, I don't claim expertise on international politics).

There is also a lack of focus on Jack Ryan, as most of these later books have done. Ryan disappears from the foreground into the mix of characters and doesn't really appear to be the primary focus of the novel. The novel also jumps around from character to character, introducing one for just a scene or a chapter, then never really returning to them.

Most of these problems may be addressed in the actual novel, which is quite lengthy. But the abridged, CD version, which is the one I listened to, just doesn't give this story the depth that it really needs. As is the case with most of these later novels (which I happened to listen to one right after another, but in the reverse order), the CD versions were just not as well-developed as a good novel should be. You'll have to look for a different review on the actual novel, but I definitely wouldn't recommend the CD version - it just doesn't give a very good version of the story.

Summary: Others are mistaken, this is one of Clancy's best!
Review: I'm new to writing reviews here, so I decided to check out some of my favorites to see what other's had said. I'm a huge Clancy fan, and Executive Orders just happens to be my favorite of his tales. When I read what the other's said about this book, I had to do something.. had to stand up for this great novel!

If you are not a Clancy fan, or if you read at a child's reading level, then yes, this book is probably too complicated for you.. but, if you have half a brain and an active imagination, this one if for you. The book is well worth the money, as it provides many, many hours of entertainment. The book is long, so it takes some time to complete, but it's not wasted time. This book is classic Tom Clancy, and any person who's read any of his others will agree.

I would not recommend this as a person's first Clancy read. You should read most, if not all, of the previous books in order to have a better understanding of the plot and the characters. Executive Orders starts up immediately after the previous book, Debt of Honor (another Clancy great!), left off. A 747, driven by an angered pilot from Japan, has just plowed right into the Capitol in D.C. during a joint session of Congress. This effectively destroys the American government, and leaves our hero, Jack Ryan, as the new President. The first 100 pages are gripping, especially now, post 9/11 (this book was released over 4 years before that day), and will keep you hooked for the rest of the book. The tale highlights what it would take to totally reconstruct a government after a massive terrorist attack, and then goes on to show how many people in our country and around the world might seek to benefit from America's new found vulnerability.

This is a great book, and should not be tarnished by people with short attention spans. Yes, it is long. Yes, there is much detail and there's plenty of sub-plots. These things are what make Clancy's tales GREAT! This is why he's the number 1 author in our country... without these things, Clancy would be just another thriller author. Read this book, and prepare for much enjoyment!!

Summary: My Favorite Ryan-verse Tale from Clancy
Review: This book is packed with classic Clancy action, detail, and characters. Debt of Honor is a pre-req for this book, but this one takes up exactly where that left off. Read this back in 1998, long before 9/11, but now it seems prophetic. The book takes on a thoroughly interesting issue of having to COMPLETELY REPLACE the ENTIRE American government while dodging terrorist threats. A great look at American politcs and of course, plenty of classic John Patrick Ryan logic. Great military and secret service action, with a little bio-warfare mixed in. Must read!
