Rating: Summary: The White House as punishment Review: Really, I followed Jack Ryan as a hero, but now he winds up in one of those "President In Crisis" scenarios! It was great to see buddy Robby Jackson make admiral, but not at the expense of watching the '80s/ '90s American answer to James Bond end up prisoner in the Oval Office, getting shafted by anyone with an axe to grind. If you want the real Jack Ryan series, read "Red October, "Patriot Games", "Cardinal Of the Kremlin", "Clear and Present Danger", Sum Of All Fears", and the first 3/4 of "Debt Of Honor". Jack Ryan makes an overly vulnerable President--not being a politician, he doesn't have to tools to fight back. The "hero as victim" basis for a book is Sidney Sheldon stuff, NOT Tom Clancy stuff!
Rating: Summary: Excellent ending to Jack Ryan Series Review: This was an excellent ending to the Jack Ryan series. He continues to develop the characters that started many novels ago. I especially like how he would refer to less than prominanat characters in his previous novels. I felt as if he were "testing" my memory of his previous books. In the end I was cheering for the President to kick Butt!
Rating: Summary: a good but long book Review: Executive orders is not the best tom clancy novel but is a very good one. Its 1300+ pages set up a good ending but it takes a long time to get to it. If you can't stomach a long read i don't reccomend this book, however, if you are looking for a book to get really caught up in this is your book. Overall i thought it was a good book.
Rating: Summary: The best in the Jack Ryan series to date Review: Although many readers are detered by the enormous size, if u start from the beging, he seems to get u used to bigger and bigger books with more and more subplots. In this book, CIA analist Jack Ryan who started as an assistant to DDI James Greer, to acting DDI, to DDCI, to National Security Advisor, to vice president (a job he holds for no more than 5 minutes) is now thrown in to a job that he never wanted. The President of the United States. Now he has the entire world watching his every move and not all of these prying eyes are friendly, including some American citizens and the leader of a country that has no wish for peace with America or any other country. Can Ryan deal with crisice after crisice including the murder of Iraq's president, another attack on his family, and the spread of the ebola virus throughout the U.S.
Rating: Summary: the effort & time needed to finish the book is not worth it. Review: This is the first Clancy novel I have read and I was quite disappointed by this novel. The lack of an editor clearly shows in this 1300 page door-stopper in which T.C. flows from one subplot to another in a matter of a few lines. This makes it too hard to follow the different storylines and this back and forth style does nothing to impart suspense or inttrigue (maybe so if it were a T.V. show or movie). Several subplots prvoved to be anticlimactic or irrelevant to the major plotline. Mix in ALOT of T.C.'s endless ranting about the needs of today's government, and you have a recipe for overrated and bloated political fiction. I think Clancy is too big-headed for his own good and needs to take a long break and read books outside of his genre for refreshment ( I recommend A Game Of Thrones by George R.R. Martin).
Rating: Summary: A major disappointment Review: Tempted by the number of positive comments on Amazon.com about this and other Clancy novels I decided to purchase Executive Orders. What a waste of money and time. This book is too long, stuffed with technical details (is Mr Clancy 12 years old, looking around in a very big toy shop?), unbelievably naive and patriotic and absolutely black and white (we are the good ones, all the rest are bad). Publications like this make many Americans believe that the USA are the only reliable peacekeepers of the entire galaxy. Come on people, aren't we all too intelligent for this rubbish? Too bad the rating system does not allow me to rate on no stars. Or...is this novel just not my cup of tea?
Rating: Summary: One of Tom Clancys best! if not the very best! Review: Clancy is by far the best political author of the 20th century and looks like he will go where no author has gone before!
Rating: Summary: Best Presidential scenario ever written! Review: Clancy boldly eradicates Congress and the Presidency in one quick act of terrorism, then assigns (who else?) Jack Ryan to take over the reigns of the world. What does Jack do with this new power? Take on an intern in the oval office?? NO! He reigns in democracy with a heavy yet compassionate hand. Give this page-turner a good read, and look into American politics, what's wrong with the system, and how to fix it.
Rating: Summary: Another Winner Review: Although a little slow in the beginning, Clancy nonetheless is able to tell another incredible story. Delving into the dichotomy between politics and the rest of the world is a refreshing journey, especially when the protagonist has such a firm head on his shoulders. While not quite so exciting as the previous installment--Debt of Honor--it is still a hard book to put down.
Rating: Summary: Clancy did it again. Review: I loved this book. Tom Clancy knows how to write something that bring everyone back. The end was great and the details about The Ebola Virus were wonderful. Keep it up, Tom.
