Rating: Summary: SO Worth the 27 bucks!!!! Review: I loved this book. I stayed up late every night until I had it finished. It was absolutely riveting. Anyone who writes a bad review for this book obviously doesn't know a good author when they see one, or they're just jealous because they can't do as well. Definitely worth the money! The best James Patterson novel yet. Go buy it already!!!!!!!! :)
Rating: Summary: blind and unkind Review: In this "nursery rhyme named novel" we are faced with many questions: are the three blind mice going to be the last case that Alex solves - due to resignation -- or are the three blind mice going to create the end for Alex? Who are they and what do they want? Why do they carry memories and hold onto their identity from Vietnam? And then there is Alex's family -- "Nana" is aging, and he wants to be around for Nana's elder years....then there is "Jamilla", Alex's interest....and, of course, his children. This novel may be about blind mice, but it sure gives readers a clearer picture of Alex's personal life. It also opens our eyes to the destruction that comes from war. And as for Alex he is told- "his continuing journey is interesting...You want to make things right...Your country has produced so many killers...I don't know why this happens in such a civilized country. A place with so many blessings." The crimes committed in this novel were a bit graphic for my taste, butI won't spoil anything for readers. I will say one thing, though: Even if this novel was not Patterson's best, it makes us count our blessings regarding work, love, family, and the people who put effort into protecting the innocent-- like "Alex", and of course "Sampson," Alex's sidekick and friend.
Rating: Summary: Excellen!! Review: Excellent story line, really enjoyed this book. This was my 1st time reading his work, and I was so over whelmed with the story I purchased "Beachhouse". Mr. Patterson is an excellent author with a great imagination!! I like his style!
Rating: Summary: Extremely Disappointing Review: This is my last Patterson novel; I've had it. He's been going downhill for awhile and he's at the bottom. This is the poorest writing I've read in a long time; school kids could do as well. It was like reading a diary..short, choppy, no plot, descriptions or fleshing-out of anything. It says he's investigating, but we never know how or what he's doing. No investigation at the crime scenes or anything. You don't know how he found out who the final killer was. All the asides with Nana have nothing to do with anything...just empty filler. I had the feeling he was just whipping this off as fast as he could to get another book out there and get some more money...no research or thought put into it at all. I'm mad at myself for buying it and then reading it. No more.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable! Awesome! Review: This is the first James Patterson book I have read and I have to say it was exciting and fast-moving. I will definitely be reading his other books. I am very impressed by this book and the fact that I could not put it down goes to show what a great book this is!
Rating: Summary: Much better than his last Alex Cross novel. . . Review: . . . although not as good as his best. Patterson gives up a bit of the page-turning drama in this book in favor of a tiny bit more work on character development, but nowhere near enough for my tastes. The story is unsatisfying due to a potentially very interesting plot line (secret wars-within-a war in Vietnam) the details of which Patterson chooses to use mainly as filler. (I've seen more robust treatment of a similar story line on a two-hour Magnum P.I.) His fleshing out of the Samson character is adequate, but Alex Cross is still not a multi-dimensional character. Patterson is much better at devising horrible ways to murder his characters than he is at writing about romance and relationships (and his sex scenes are painfully awkward). All in all the book is, as usual, an entertaining way to spend a few hours away from the real world.
Rating: Summary: Not Much Cheese in This One Review: It's not clear to me what Patterson's attraction is. He does write the shortest chapters of any modern author (even shorter than Robert B. Parker's, but all that does is add white space and pages. In this book Alex cross is embarking on his "last case" to prove that a friend of a friend is being framed for a murder. Alas, he fails, but in the process realizes that someone is going to a lot of trouble to frame former Viet Nam veterans for murder and being very successful. We learn early on who is doing it, but not who is ordering the killing. Many dead bodies later we find out the answer which is somewhat predictable and not very startling. I was given this book as a gift. I am thankful that I did not shell out hard cash for it. If you like this author, I suggest the library or waiting for paper back.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: There were more holes in this plot than an Iraqi mine field. Patterson phoned this one in; don't bother.
Rating: Summary: Patterson's Worst Review: This "effort"(?) by author Patterson is extremely disappointing. The military backdrop which constitutes the fundamental basis for this publishing disaster is a poorly researched and contains egregious factual errors, shallow detail and grossly stretched credibility. The plot projection is "fleshed out" by graphic gory detail and superfluous sex which the reader is expected to relate to reading entertaiment. The inclusion of this disaster on recent bestseller listings can only be from the derived momentum of Patterson's past literary eclat with his Alex Cross character; clearly this book would never be looked at by a responsible publisher were it the author's early effort. I am embarrassed that I was "conned" into buying it and that I humiliated myself by finishing it!
Rating: Summary: Patterson a hit again Review: James Patterson does it again! I have yet to read a book of his that wasn't spectacular.
