Rating: Summary: Solid practical advice for ethics in action Review: Christians often suffer from the misguided idea that they have to say "yes" to everything virtuous, and to everyone. This book offers solid, workable advice on how to live your values without being a doormat. The book includes exercises and insights to put these ideas into action in your own life.
Rating: Summary: Excellent guide for peace and contentment Review: Outlines all aspects of setting boundaries, the most important factor in successful marriages and parenting. This book has life-changing ability. The concept of it being our responsibility to protect our soul by protecting our boundaries is the most powerful concept. Seting limits on others and ourself then becomes our stewardship of our own lives, souls, and love for others. Weakened boundaries allows for damage and destruction of that which we hold most dear.
Rating: Summary: Learned more from this book than my parents ever taught me Review: The authors explain many different reasons that people struggle with in relating to others, and why many relationships can be so frustrating on both sides. I learned things that my parents should have taught me when I was 2. As I have read this book and begun to implement the principles in my life there has been genuine change.
Rating: Summary: Most helpful guideling to live a Christlike life. Review: If everyone read this and took it to heart, there would be a lot more Christians who could actually obey God.
Rating: Summary: Practical, easy to read and apply - very good self-help book Review: The authors explain, in practical ways, the impact of parenting styles on one's ability to establish healthy boundaries. Very helpful in learning how to take responsibility for my life AND allow others to take responsibility for theirs. Similar in some ways to Melody Beattie's CODEPENDENT NO MORE, readers may find BOUNDARIES easier to identify with and apply.
Rating: Summary: What About Grace and the Holy Spirit? Review: This is psychology over Biblical substance. Poor theology and Scriptural interpretation abound. A topical book - study often takes some "bird walks" on context, but Dr's. Cloud and Townsend stray far off the course here. This book is absent of any teaching on Grace, empowerment of the Holy Spirit, and I'll agree with another reviewer, it is heresy in it's evaluation of Jesus' example. Using the Bible as a justification to "hurt" but not "harm" friends or family doesn't really sound like any part of the Beatitudes - because it's not! This is a psychology book, not a Bible study book. Read "Grace Awakening" by Chuck Swindoll or "Why Grace Changes Everything" by Chuck Smith for a better look at God's real power for daily living.
Rating: Summary: Good to read and reread to become a good friend. Review: Boundaries, along with counseling, has given me tools to work toward a more functional marriage as well as being a better parent and friend.
Rating: Summary: Good to read and reread to become a good friend. Review: Boundaries, along with counseling has given me tools to work with toward a more functional marriage as well as being a better parent and friend. This book has helped me, I also needed counseling and prayer to overcome the false concepts I had of relationship.
Rating: Summary: A "MUST READ" BOOK WITH LIFE CHANGING BENEFITS Review: When this class was offered in my area, I signed up because I was having a hard time with saying "no" This book helped me to stop saying "yes" when I really meant "no". And because of this I am able to be more honest with myself. I signed up with my husband the second time the course was offered and noticed many positive improvements in our relationship and our parenting skills. As it says in the book "..your most basic need in life is for relationships" By learning to say "no" when I really meant "no", it empowered me with a greater sense of love for myself which, in-turn, I was able to share more freely with others. It has been two years since I last took the class on Boundaries and I am still referring to this book often. For me it has been an invaluable reference book on life, love and relationships.
Rating: Summary: This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. Review: The analogy of our lives/bodies as personal property that God has given us to be good stewards over is exceptional. I have used it with several clients and have found it very effective. This book is great for anyone who wants to do some introspection and figure out if they are serving God or man.
