Rating: Summary: To be fair Review: This forum is to rate the book, not Bill, his supplements or the BFL contest. This being the case, I rated the book 5 stars to be fair. I've read a lot of books on nutrition and exercise and what I liked about this one was the amount of time he devoted to becoming mentally prepared. If you're not mentally ready then you're not going to succeed and he helps prepare you. The program is solid and I believe will work for most anyone who truly sticks to it. As is mentioned by a few, it is primarily for people looking to tone/lose weight. I'm a hard gainer and am trying to get big so changed my routine accordingly. However, this book got me into the gym which was the hardest part for me.As for his supplements (hey, I rated his book fairly, now gonna give my opinion). I think they are some of the best ones on the market. However, I don't want to get a second job to pay for my monthly supply. They are considerably pricey and are almost always on sale for 25%-40% off somewhere. I'd rather they just had an overall lower cost. Great quality, high price. Now for the contest. Not a fan of his contest at all. The fact that you HAVE to buy at least one of his supplements during the 12 weeks is weak. If your supplements are the best quality FOR THE MONEY, then people will buy them regardless of a contest. To force them to do so is a little lame (and prohibited, according to the contest rules, in some places) The contest brings a sense of snake oil salesmanship which can interfere with peoples' impressions of his book and supplements. Which, on their own, are solid.
Rating: Summary: Refering to the."Great Concept, Heavy on advertising" review Review: This person doesn't know what they are talking about. Sounds like a competitors review in an attempt to downgrade this wonderful book. I lost over 100 lbs. and have stayed with this way of life for over two years now. Many people have changed their lives because of the example they have seen from my wife and I(who looks fantastic now BTW!)Please give it a try. It works. This is a simple and complete plan that ANYONE can and should follow....And hey.. you get a "free day",one day a week when you eat WHAT YOU WANT!!! With this plan it doesn't hurt you and you find you get pretty sick of those foods after awhile anyway. It's still nice to have that blessed free day. I could go on and on for pages and pages but I'm not the best writer and it,in the end, is your decision. I hope you sense the sincerity and give it a try. I'm on my 9th challenge in a row and LOVE IT.Once again....It is for everyone, not just the young and athletic. If you are a housewife 45 years old 320 lbs you start lifting and doing aroebics the same as everyone else. You are going to be amazed, especially the really out of shape,as I was(5ft10in 285),at how much weight you shed. Your body will also Take Shape!!! Grab your life Back!!!!!
Rating: Summary: The pictures ARE true. Review: You may think the picturs are not true, but they are. I did the program last year and I had better before and after pictures than most of what you see. You have to be determined. If you have alot of weight to lose than yes 12 weeks may not be enough, he says that. Just because you don't get the results in 12 weeks than keep it up and you will. I went from a womans size 14 to a beautiful 4 (and found the man of my dreams). It does work, you just have to be stubburn and let nothing stop you. Gloria
Rating: Summary: From a size 12 to a 6 in LESS than 12 weeks! Review: This book unlocks the answers to why we're fat in America. I read this book in one night. When I started showing results, my friends and family wanted to know the secret. At least 3 of them bought the book for themselves. It really works!
Rating: Summary: Very motivational, but could be tweaked a little Review: Bill Phillips is a marketing genuis. He is one of those people who could "sell ice to an Eskimo". This book is more than a marketing ploy, but he slips a lot of his slickness into it throughout the book. First off, the Body for Life diet combines foods improperly, and can leave food fermenting in your stomach. Not the best idea for someone who wants to get lean and lose fat. Sure, exercise will increase your metabolism, and burn fat, but it all starts with proper digestion. Secondly, this book is pretty much targeted at people who want to lose bodyfat. Yet half of the people who would want to read this book are skinny, underweight males who want to bulk up. The Body For Life workout is an aerobic workout, and it's hard to develop a lot of strength on it when you're already very slim. Bill should have come up with a different workout for skinny people and fat people. Other than that, this book is very good. Very motivational. If this book can't motivate you to change your life, nothing can. I admire Bill for helping change so many people positively.
Rating: Summary: Oh Gee, He Mentioned a Product Review: I love to read the negative reviews on Amazon to get a balanced view of what I'm getting into when I lay my hard earned money on the line for some potentially useful information. Some reviews bring up the fact that Mr. Phillips mentions his Myoplex shakes 2 or 3 times in the book. This gripe is overly redundant. If you have honestly read the book then you know it is much more than a hardcover sales brochure as some would have you believe. If you don't like Myoplex, fine, there are several other supplements on the market. I prefer Met-Rx myself. This book is absolutely powerful and the information provided can change your life, provided you actually put it to use instead of using it as a tray to rest your Super Size French Fries. Sure if you're not a beginner you already know the majority of what Mr. Phillips advises. It doesnt appear to be a book geared towards those who are advanced, hence the before and after pictures. Over the years I have tried to convince many of my friends of the fitness and nutritional techniques mentioned and they didn't take any of it seriously until they read this book. Even my own personal results were not enough to convince them. Yes, don't believe the hype. Don't believe these people who are hyping this book to be some sort of printed infomercial for EAS supplements. And please don't mistrust Mr. Phillips simply because he happens to be a successful business owner who makes a lot of money. Are we not capitalists?...
Rating: Summary: Very little information on the tape. Review: Wow, this either is a really poor book or the tape is so abridged all the details were lost. The first tape is basically about making todo lists. Yes, that may help, but really old news to most of us. The second tape (yes, only two of them) get's into the diet, but again so little detail. Eat 6 meals a day, meat the size of your palm and starch the size of your fist. Way too many examples of foods that match that size, "A potato is natural's single serving package" he said. I was getting worried as I listened to all the meat and starch combinations (the only detail on the tape), then he finally did talk about veggies. There's basically no information about the activities you should do, just more talk about the times you should commit. Granted this is a tape, but I was sure expecting more from such a hyped book.
Rating: Summary: Bottom line, this plan works! Review: Ok I'm going to make this short and sweet. I've lost over a hundred pounds using this guide, 310 to 208. It is simpler than other programs I've tried and the author wrote the book keeping the busy persons schedual in mind. Do you have 3 hours and 15min a week you can spare; can you handel only eating your favorite foods only once a week? Buy this book and get in shape.
Rating: Summary: I am giving a copy to all of my friends Review: I have tried a lot of diets and exercise programs, but none have worked like Bill Phillips program does. I am turning 40 and decided it was time to get in shape again. I was always pulling muscles and feeling tired in the afternoons. So I made the commitment to do the program. And it is easy! I am in my 10th week and have had great results. The dieting is easy. Eat every two hours. I can eat a combination of meats, veggies and pastas. I can even eat bread! I like making a protein shake every other meal. It curbs my cravings for junk food. I use the Shaklee Instant Protein mix and add a scoop of their powdered meal supplement, add a banana or some frozen strawberries, some low fat yogurt, water, ice, blend and I have a shake! (No, I don't work for Shaklee!, but I do like it the best.) I bought a blender to use at work. As for the workouts, it was difficult for me to do at first, getting up in the morning, but after a week, I felt so much better all day long. I have a workout bench that is separate from the weight support bar (Weiser). This is important, since I do a lot of my exercises with dumbbells and do not want my bench press bar to get in the way. (I do not go to a gym, would rather walk down to my basement in the morning, turn on the TV or radio and work out.) Stretch out before starting the workout! I pulled an arm muscle the first week, so also take it easy at first. Do not prove to yourself what a man you are by trying to lift 100%.(sorry women, I can only review this from my point of view :) Get there gradually over a 2 week period. I did not take any Ceatine, etc., just lots of vitamins and the protein powder in my shakes. It has worked! I went from 22.5% fat (that was 44 lbs of fat) to 15%! My aches and pains are gone and I feel great! I also lost weight at 1/2 lb per day the first two weeks. It then slowed down, but I have lost a total of 14 lbs and went from a 36 tight to a lose 34 waist. So go to your doctor, borrow his fat meter and see how many pounds of fat you will burn off. You will feel beter, be healthier, look great and be mentally alert!
