Rating: Summary: No Steroid Boys Allowed. Review: Excellent! Very helpful for those of us who have tried and failed to get in shape. If you've tried and failed to get in shape, this book could very well give you the information you're looking for--the rest is up to you.
Rating: Summary: Judge for YOURSELF... Review: I read all the reviews and ordered this book to find out for myself, after reading the entire book the day I received it, I can tell you NOT to pay attention to the negative reviewsThose that say this is nothing more then an EAS ad haven't truely read it, EAS and Bill's product aren't even mentioned until halfway thru the book. Why? Because they are part of the program HE created. You can use alternative supplements, if you choose. Just go to GNC and ask for similar products. But this is a program promoted by EAS, so of course EAS products are recommended. But it is hardly a glorified ad for EAS, it has useful info. It's a great start for beginners, like me, and it IS worth it if you want to change. As for the 20 minute aerobics, if you follow what he says it is an INTENSE 20 minutes. ACTUALLY READ and comprehend what is said before you write something negative about it.
Rating: Summary: Right on the money (no pun) Review: This book is worth your time & money. Unless you have neither
Rating: Summary: this book is an eye opener Review: I read the whole book on the day I got it. This book is not going to change your life--only you can to that--but this book might serve as a catalyst for analyzing/pondering anout your life path. This book, indeed, is about changing your body, but by learning through ardous process it takes to achieve "your desired body", Bill teaches us to actively apply what we learn to other facets of our life; namely, Bill teaches us to give value to ourselves and others. Just for this he gets my five stars. In the business Bill is in, he is a neo Lao-Tzu: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." I'm am sure Bill will satiate many in body and mind. Kudos to him! I agree this book might seem like it is a walking advertisement for EAS supplements, but it would be a form of abject idiocy for him not to promote his own products, pitchman, and principles; Mr. Weider does no different. Naysayers, you would probably do the same thing. I do believe,as many other reviewers have, you can get by on this program with other supplements for well under fifty dollars a month. This program seems deceptively simple, but I have almost gotten sick 3 or 4 times treading on new spheres of physical struggle. I have been working out for 8 years, and never have felt so exhausted after a workout...but never have I felt like I was making so much progress. I'll admit it may take a few weeks to fine tune the workout, though. Good luck to everyone.
Rating: Summary: Interesting and usefull Review: If you are reading this review then you are probabably seriously looking into getting into shape or losing some weight and you should look at this book. There are some intellegent points to set you on the path to a better body. I do have some issues with the supplement push but you are free to use the countless other brands on the market, which is exactly what I do. I'm not looking for "huge muscle mass" or somekind of unnatural body, I just wanted to lose my gut and get a little shape to my body (a little vanity is a great motivator). This book hit the points I wanted and I basically ignored the EAS hype. It would be a five star book if it wasn't for two things (which I'm knocking a star for each). First, the EAS push was distracting and second Bill Phillips self congratulatory tone is a bit much. Take out those elements and it's a good book. Maybe not as bad as the critics claim but not as great as the fans claim. Charles Poloquin also has some great books without the supplement angle, check them out.
Rating: Summary: The Best Fitness Book I Have Ever Read Review: Bill Phillip answers all those questions you have about training and nutrition. It is laid out very simple, so any one can use it, beginer to expert. His program is the best, there is no other way to say it. You will learn how to get the most, out of short workouts. And learn a new, quick way to do boring aerobics. I have to give this book 5 stars!!!!!! take my advice, read it for yourself!
Rating: Summary: This information and motivation changed our lives!!! Review: Renee and I learned of EAS and a contest called the Physique Transformation Challenge just over a year ago. In just fifteen weeks I lost 57lbs and Renee lost 41! I went from a size 46" waist to a 36" and Renee went from size 18 to a 6! We both lost over half of our bodyfat percentage while gaining lean muscle. All that is amazing in and of itself. But the most incredible thing that happened is what changing our bodies did for changing our lives! I can't even begin to describe the deep, lasting, permanent change that transpired as we applied everything we learned and became physically fit. Our relationship has never been better! (and that's after 15 years of happy marriage) Our confidence to accomplish anything we want is at an all time high and we owe it all to the information and motivation we recieved from Bill Phillips. Our biggest challenge was taking all the information available and condensing it into practical application. My only regret is that WE didn't have a book like Body For LIFE to guide and direct us. It puts everything we used to accomplish our transformation into one complete source!!! Thank you Bill!!! We recently completed another 12-week "personal challenge" on our own after we saw the new the workout in the book, and we are still improving! Don't let the "steroid junkies" fool you. This plan can help transform your bodies and your lives for beginners AND experienced fitness buffs. It grows with you as you improve. I recommend this book to EVERYONE who wants to improve their bodies and their lives. IT WORKED FOR US! By the way, no one from EAS or anywhere else asked me to write this review. My feelings for what this stuff can do for you comes right from the heart. Fred Scurti...half of the Couples Catagory Champions, EAS PTC 1998
Rating: Summary: The Ultimate in Training and Nutrition Review: This is a great book for all of the lost people out there trying to find a way to build muscle and lose fat without having to spend your life in the gym. It is also good because of the Nutrition-for-Life method which helps you lose bodyfat AND build healthy muscle without having to starve yourself. The only down part about the book is that if you read Bill Phillips magazine,"Muscle Media", you are getting almost the same information that you read in the book, only the book puts that information into plain English.
Rating: Summary: Nothing new to share. Review: Bill Phillips has made himself into a guru of strength training for the average american. He has also been able to market his company's products by doing so. I found nothing in the book very helpful. The exercises are not unique and I have a difficult time agreeeing with his suggestion that aerobics being done only three times a week for 20 minutes. While the book may be helpful to those who have no idea of weight training or couldn't previously find the gym,the book will be a big disappointment to those familiar with weight training looking for a way to improve. I do have to give it to Phillips: it appears he has a cult following and has made himself rich doing so, but not offering anything different than others.
Rating: Summary: Let's Cut Through The Bull Review: After reading the reviews of this "book" listed here, I've come to the conclusion that 90% of them are actually reviews of Bill Phillips and have very little to do with the worth of the book itself. Basically, people are split into two clear camps. On the one hand, there's the 5-star reviews. Most of these people are clearly either working for the author at EAS or beginners who know virtually nothing about fitness and nutrition. This is not a 5-star book by a long shot. On the other hand, there's the 1-star reviews, many of which are from people who don't like the fact that Bill Phillips actually makes money selling supplements--what a terrible crime--or that he's built a successful business by tapping into people's dreams and fantasies. Welcome to America. The reality is that much of what is contained in the book is old news: information that Mr. Phillips has previously published in his magazine and techniques that others have developed and written more eloquently about. And yes the book is full of self-serving advertisements, but so is 95% of the self-help books on the market. The book itself does have a few interesting routines laid out, and it provides some insight into how a very busy person can stay fit in the hectic contemporary world. The bottom line is that Body-For-Life is a good place for a beginner to start, though you should be wary of the extensive marketing material that underlines the text. For more intermediate level to advanced trainers, I personally think there are better books out there: Mike Mentzer's worth a read if only because he offers some unique thoughts on training, and Bob Myhal's Ultimate Muscle Program is a detailed and realistic method for sparking muscle growth. And there's other good material available as well. In the end, if you look past the personal attacks on Mr. Phillips and the obvious marketing plants by EAS, you'll recognize that the more thoughtful reviewers here have it about right when they give Body-For-Life 2-3 stars.
