Rating: Summary: The right stuff Review: Folks, this book is the real deal. If you want to learn about the fundamentals of fitness -- including the mental aspects -- there is no better place to start. And the material is absolutely inspiring. If you are the least bit curious about the book, go ahead and buy it. I doubt you'll regret it. Also, if you like the book, the audio tape presents the material in a slightly different manner and is also worthwhile. Thanks, Bill!
Rating: Summary: Excellent starting point... Review: My wife and I are very appreciative to Bill and EAS for the changes they have made in our bodies and lives! This book has really brought the habit of excercise and body building into persepctive for us and has motivated us to maintain a much healther lifestyle that we previously had.I see that there is a lot of criticizm here for how "simple and basic" the information seems to be in the book. I don't see this as a shortcoming of the book at all! Bill is writing to the lowest common denominator of people out there who need SOMETHING to get them off of the couch and into the gym. This is not a book on how to take your "near-perfect" physique and work off that last .001% of body fat. It is an entry level reader for those who have a lot of misconceptions about working out or those who know nothing at all. I agree with those comments that say so. If you already know a lot of this information because you read Muscle Media (MM) or have entered a Body of Work Challenge...yeah...you most likely have what you need. This book brings it all together in one format instead of having to thumb through multiple isseus of MM or piecing together the bits and pieces you have learned over the months. Bill's philosophy and company(s) are focused on makeing excercise and body building accessable to the COMMON individual, not just the 'muscle head.' Good Job Bill!
Rating: Summary: This book is about life, not just weight training Review: I found this book to be extremely helpful. It is not a rip off or an advertisement for his supplement company. It is a way for ANYONE to change their physique and their life. The thing I like best about it is the step by step process that he gives you. There is no guess work on what to eat or how to train. It is all laid out so that anybody can follow this Program. I have just begun this Program, but have already had success with his advice before. Bill Phillips is in the business of helping people, and he can help you as well. Like I mentioned earlier, this book is about bulilding a better life, not just a beter body. The information in this book shows you how to get more out of a workout with spending less time and also shows you how to apply this knowledge to your life.
Rating: Summary: a great guide for changing your body and mind Review: this is a great source for anyone who wants to change their body. this plan is simple, effective and it works.the information contained in this book is a formula for success. thank you ,Bill
Rating: Summary: Really Motivational! Review: I think Bill Phillips book is really motivational. Actually I do know a good deal about nutrition and exercise having tried numerous diet books. I'm glad to see there are more positive reviews here now. Many people said it was a straight ad for his supplements. Obviously, they had not read the book - yes, he mentions Myoplex, his shake, but that's about it. He also adds that you can receive the same benefits without using the shake. I've been trying to use the creatine/HMB combo powder some and I think it helps some to prevent sore muscles after your workout. As far as whether or not this is only for the beginner, I think its great for people who need a real plan laid out. I really like having a structure and a couple of forms to review and stick to (call me a nerd - that's jsut my personality!) So if you like a lot of structure and need some motivation this book is for you!
Rating: Summary: Did not meet expectations. Review: I was truly disapointed by Bill Phillips' book. I was expecting some new revelation that would motivate me to work out. It did not move me at all. I thought some of the stories were good but the training methods were stuff you could find anywhere. I take the EAS products and they are fantastic. Overall, this book was a quick read and not worth the price. Get it in your local library for the stories.
Rating: Summary: A book for beginners who know nothing about fitness Review: The sad truth is that a very large part of the population is obese or don't work out at all. The methods in this book are nothing out of the ordinary and way to easy and simple for anyone that knows anything about being fit. The obese and out of shape people will reach the same if not better results by doing virtually any exercise. When you are in that poor condition, whatever you do will improve your pathetic shape. If you have any experience at all of working out, don't buy this book. It's a waste of time.
Rating: Summary: A great resource for the beginner, but not the 'muscle head' Review: For those who have already read 'Muscle Media,' this will NOT be earth-shattering new information. But for those just starting out and who want to learn how you can make a serious difference in your health and fitness, I think it's a great resource. I have also been struck by the number of people who attack Bill Phillips and the book as a vehicle for promoting EAS and supplementation, to the point where I wonder if they've even READ the book. If anything, I was surprised at how LITTLE information on supplementation is included; I thought it needed more, not less. I only recall 3 or 4 pages that touch on the subject, but I really consider supplementation to be an invaluable asset. Having started a form of Bill Phillip's routine 4 months ago, I've lost thirty-five pounds on the scale WHILE ALSO DOUBLING MOST OF THE WEIGHT'S I'M LIFTING! And I think a lot of that had to do with the addition of supplements like creatine and HMB. Also, you don't have to spend $500 a month on supplements - I spent about $60 a month by being smart about it, not trying to take every product on the market, and shopping around. And if you have ANY interest in getting into shape, get the 'Body of Work' video. It's not a how-to, but it was the inspiration that got me off the couch, into the gym, and healthier than I've been in perhaps my whole life.
Rating: Summary: [ The best book on the subject.. hence the one star ] Review: I'm confident that this book is -the- book if you're determined to change your body and thus your life, because what it comes down to after all is your confidence and your will power to honor self promises. Why then did I give this book just 1 star if I think it's such a great book? That has to do with confidence too. Let me explain. This review forum for this book has become a 'battle field' of two camps, the 5 star camp and the 1 star camp, and some few in-between individuals. The tendecy that is so obvious is that the both camps are trying to lower/raise the 'average readed review' value, which has none the less stayed at the 3½ star mark quite well. And why are they doing this? Because they assume that the 'outcome' will determine the succees of this book, which as we know isn't like that at all. I know that I'm not affected by the review average and I'm absolutely sure Bill and the EAS/MM staff aren't affected either, and you know why? Confidence. And where does that confidence come from? It comes from the results the book is producing. That, and that only, is what counts. I'm giving this book just one star because I'm confident that this book is so great that I'm willing to give the 1 star camp some enjoyment to their lives as well, I've had mine in plenty with this book.
Rating: Summary: Great for the fitness challenged! Review: This book is excellent for those people who are new to fitness--especially those who have been trying for years and who just can't seem to get it together--and want a proven formula for getting in shape. I disagree that Mr. Phillips uses this book as an advertisement for his company--yes, he mentions one of his products, briefly, but I don't consider a couple pages in a book as a hard sell. He simply states that if you're unable to adequately prepare six meals a day, using a meal-replacement powder will help. (And whose products did you want him to endorse--his competitors'? I doubt any person in business would do that!) It's unfortunate that a great deal of my fellow reviewers have obviously not read one page of this book (otherwise their reviews would at least have an accurate description of the content of the book), they may just have learned something. Although it's likely that a number of the good reviews were written by colleagues of Mr. Phillips, I believe it's even more likely that a good majority of the bad reviews were written by disgruntled ex employees who can't stand the thought of being left behind by someone who will always be more successful than they will ever be.
