Summary: There's no magic pill.
Review: I work in a bookstore, and I see a lot of fitness books. When one of my coworkers told me she was doing this (last summer), I was skeptical. I took the book home and read it, and did some research online, and I was very impressed. I fell off the wagon after about 6 weeks, but I had lost 15 pounds and 2 pants sizes. I knew I would go back on, it was just a matter of when.

I went back on in mid-February. I'm starting my third week tomorrow, and I'm finishing this time. Honestly, it works. It's basically "Eat right and exercise, six days a week. Then take a day off." It's not rocket science. I recommend this to everyone in my store looking for a good fitness book. It's motivational, positive, and fantastic. It's something anyone can do if they put their minds to it. And if you want to change, this is a GREAT book.

One comment to the supplements: this time around, I'm finding the program much easier. I sucked it up and bought some Myoplex powder. No, I don't use the shakes every day, but if I know I'm going to put in a long day at work, they are fast and easy and I like using them. Last time I didn't use them and had a hard time getting all my meals in. This time they're a nice shortcut. I'm glad he recommends them, but I found he didn't push them too much at all. Yes, he owns a business. he markets his products in his book. Cry me a river. It's presented as a suggestion. I find that they help me out. Also, the journal is VERY helpful. Wish they'd had it last summer when I did my first six weeks.

To the skeptics: this, like anything else, will only work if you will. So many people seem to just be looking to find fault. Are you looking for a reason why the program won't work, or why YOU won't work?

Summary: A good start for beginners . . .
Review: This is a good for for beginning weight lifters. The back of the book has about four exercises for each body part explained well with photos. For someone brand new to lifting, this section is probably worth the cost of the book. Phillip's lifting principles are not new; they basically revolve around Weider's principle of pre-exhaustion. While Phillip's chapter on diet contains a few errors, he doesn't claim to be a dietician. Following his eating plan (assuming one doesn't buy into the force-fed EAS shakes) probably wouldn't cause any harm (although it is lacking in sufficient vegetables), and would be helpful for anyone who has struggled with an eating plan, as it is simple and does not require weighing and measuring. Vegetarians and vegans will need to refer to his website (...bodyforlife...) for information on what he suggests they eat -- it is not in the book. All in all, it is not a bad book. My main annoyance (besides the EAS sales pitch) was that quite a few of his statements seem to come out of left field. If they are proven by research, some sort of reference list or bibliography would have been helpful. The book also lacks an index.

Summary: More than just a workout and diet guide
Review: Bill has a remarkable ability to make it sound it like he speaking (or writing) directly to you. This book is so information rich, motivational yet extremely easy to read as well being personal. Virtually everyone reading this book will feel that personal touch from the author.
The philosophy does indeed work and not merely because of the dietary guidlines and workout schedules. The life philiosphy here can and will change your life if you take it to heart.
There are some minor gripes from people about the Myoplex references, but Bill trusts in and believes in his product, and there is not a thing wrong with that. I myself followed the program without even following totally the dietary rules. I followed the Fit for Life guidlines of fruit in the morning and food combining while avoiding processed foods like Myoplex or MetRx. I felt that my progress was better because of it, but of the combining and diets of Fit for Life is not for you, the Myoplex is a great supplement to Bills eating recommendations.

This is a simple book yet so powerful and deep at the same time.

I recommend you buy this book for anyone you care about that needs to change their life. It will work and the pictures are real.

Summary: I think this is a fantastic tool.
Review: I think that if you are serious about the program, this is a fantastic tool: keeps you organized, gives you daily inspiration: and don't we need it and DAILY! I love it, and worth the small price. Much easier than printing out pages from the web, and those don't give you the daily inspiration stories and tips.
I love it. Thanks Bill!@

Summary: Just Do It!
Review: People, listen up! The program really works!!! Anyone talking negative obviously has not done the 12 week program. Yes, it takes will-power to change your daliy routine. But it you are not happy with what you see in the mirror, then take 12 weeks out of your life and follow the BFL program. Bill has you take a before picture, 4 week picture, 8 week and 12 week picture. You have to do it. Pictures are a big motivator. Also, buy the journal. This helps you plan your workout as well as your daily menu. Or you can download the forms right off the website and put them in a binder. If you fail to plan, then plan to fail. If you are going to take it serious, enter the contest. If, no....WHEN you hit your goal, you will be happy you entered. My husband lost 34 pounds, 5 inches in his waist and looks so muscular! All our friends now believe in the program after seeing his transformation. They are all doing the contest! The only supplements he used were the Myoplex shakes and EAS bars. I am in my 4th week and have lost 3 inches in my hips, 2 inches in my waist and thighs and 4% body fat. I am very pleased with my progress this far. Be watching for me in the 2003 contest winners! If you follow the program, you will see unbelievable results! Good luck! You can do it!!! Excellent book!

Summary: If you've got the guts, this book can change your life!
Review: I am not on week 4 of the transformation and I have lost 15 pounds, have more energy than ever before, and am healthier than I have been in a long time. But it isn't easy. In order for this book to work, you have to want to change....badly! YOu have got to want to make sacrifices and be dedicated! Anything worth doing takes hard work.....everybody seems to be looking for magic pills and easy answers.....well those don't exist, but this book does and if you are willing to work, then you will get the results, bottom line. I recommend this to people who passionately want to change, but if you are looking for quick simple and easy answers, you will just have to keep on looking.

Summary: Spread this book for a healthier nation!
Review: I found/purchased this book while I was 7 months pregnant. I was going to wait until I finished nursing to start the Body-for-LIFE (BFL) program but could not stand being out of shape any longer! By the end of week 2 I lost 5 lbs of scale weight, inches off my waist, thighs, and hips and have already received compliments about losing weight...all this from eating all day and I *AM* stronger!

You eat 6 meals a day (or you can combine meals and meal-replacement bars/shakes) and workout for less than an hour 3 days a week, and less than 30 minutes for cardio 3 other days. You get a FREE DAY which allows you to eat WHATEVER you want.

One complaint people make is that the food is unrealistic. The choices in food are very VERY flexible. There are websites with recipes all over the net...even Brownies out of Protein Powder! If you plan your meals ahead of time, you get used to it after just two days. He even has a guide out there for if you're stuck eating fastfood (McGrill Chicken with extra veggies, no mayo)

The main complaint people have made is that this book is an advertisement for EAS. It's not! He mentions ONCE that if 6 meals a day is overwhelming, he suggest a meal replacement shake.

And YES, to win $50,000 in his Challenge, you have to buy an EAS product, but did you know to win the Lotto you have to buy a ticket? And if you complete the Challenge, WHETHER YOU WIN OR NOT, you get [$$] towards his products, so you basically get paid back and then some! Most of all, the Official Challenge is not required. It's an option to give you a motivational goal that's hard to complain about-- $$$.

This program REALLY works. If you don't believe me, do a search online for support groups and personal webpages and check out the REAL transformations by REAL people.

Summary: only joking, zero stars really!
Review: "I'm building my body for life, I'm building a better body for life" - utter rubbish - more like "I'm plugging myoplex for free, I'm plugging my better myoplex for free", or... "I'm submitting reviews for this book, I'm submitting numerous, bogus, reviews for this book" Come on then you spandex wearing weenies, altogether then, pick up those 10lb dumbbells (if you can) and start chanting...

Summary: IT IS ALL TRUE!!
Review: I stumbled upn this book only because the before and after pictures drew me to it. I read the book and followed it even though i was skeptical. BFL really works. It is all true. I've been on everything: weight watchers, Atkins, Carb addicts, Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig, and even starvation. This is the real deal. I wish i had found it sooner. I love being on it, it's easy to follow, it works with my life and schedule and it works. I dropped a size in 3 weeks. BUY IT. DO IT.
