Summary: Inspiring
Review: I ordered BODY FOR LIFE last week along with THE TRIUMPH AND THE GLORY and am very happy with them both. Phillips' book has inspired me to begin a program for my physical well-being, and THE TRIUMPH AND THE GLORY just plain inspired me. Thanks Amazon!

Summary: A Decent Book
Review: I really don't understand the love-hate war over this book. Being someone who is NOT in the least bit concerned about muscle mags and getting buff, I thought the book was ok. I agree that it has a lot of motivational qualities to it, which is what most everyone needs to get moving on anything, but if you are a person who is in need of that sort of motivation, by all means read this book. If you aren't, then don't read this book.

Like I said, I am just a regular person in fairly decent health and shape. I may not really need to read a book like this, but I did, and it was alright. I don't really care about the advertisements, nor do I care for drinking shakes to replace food, but I feel that way about anything, like Slimfast, Carnation Instant Breakfast, the works. Nothing personal against anyone. But at the same time, you do what you can or what you want to do. If you need/want some basic motivation, this book is just fine. I plan on following the book to help out a friend, but I wouldn't call it a godsend or even essential. To each his or her own, and this is my own way of adding a little spice to my life. Bottom line: the book is ok, and the money spent goes to charity. Can you beat that?

Summary: Some parts true, some parts misleading or even dangerous
Review: 1. He is right about his call for healthier food, the fact that loosing weight is a life long endevour, and the simple truth that you should have a life instead of living in the gym.

2. However, he often contradicts his on metaphers, like using the primitive homo sapiens (grazer) as an example. I do not think they used artificial food supplements.

3. You do not need supplements for a healthy body. Only if you want to burn away all your body fat, which has nothing to do with health.

4. Exercise should not be done in a 46 minute time period only! What is all this nonsense about not warming up before you touch any weights? Warming up at level 5 early in the morning with weights can hurt you.

5. A build up, nice to lock muscle is not always the best to have. They are pretty useless for stamina. If you enjoy a long biking tour (longer than the recommended 20 minutes) you will be lost with his aerobic tips.

6. Modern medical science has discoverd that fat is not a useless blob in your your body. It secrets a hormone called Leptin, and is therefore part of your endocrine system. A close regular circle between fat and the brain is responsible for the homeostasis of your overall fat. You can fight this physiological mechanism, but you wont win the fight (unless you stick to a life long diet on supplements...).

7. What is wrong with the taste of a nice full fat yoghurt or Ben and Jerries Ice Cream, a glass of wine or pork chops? If you eat it in moderate quantities, you do not need to stick to your 7th day off to indulge. All this authorization of certain food is over the top. (Where is Tofu, an excellent source of protein on this list?) This can only be aimed at the non educated fast food lovers among the readers.

8. Some of the exercises are bad for the lower back and should not be recommended for middle aged people suffering from back problems. And do not believe those anecdotal stories, telling you how this improved their back problems.

In summary: Not a book to promote your health or your fitness, but a crack course in body building for the stressed out manager with little time. Having this in mind, it is quite a good read, if you discard all the semi religious stuff.

Summary: Helpful for those NEW to body building
Review: Having read past copies of "Supplement Review" by Bill Phillips, I was expecting something substantial. However, I was disappointed. This book is probably a decent book for those new to body shaping, but people who have been reading "Muscle Media" or similar mags, will find it disappointing. The book is mainly inspirational stories from successful participants in the "Body Transformation" contests Bill has run the last few years.

The flyer I received for the book said there was a 30-day full money back guarantee. I wonder if that covers the $4.50 it cost to ship it back in the Priority Mail carton in which it arrived?

Summary: Good read
Review: If you read ANY of the other reviews and they mention ANYTHING at all about Bill's products and that they think this book is a vehicle to plug them... that is a complete and TOTAL joke. There is a total of 2.5 PAGES out of a over 200 pages that mention ANYTHING AT ALL about sports suppliments. I just started on this program after attempting to workout on and off for 10 years (including having a one-on-one daily personal trainer) and this is the first time I have started to notice results! Just because you read something on the internet (where anyone can say anything for free) doesn't mean it's true... all I can say is try it, you can't loose when you are spending less than 20 bucks on your body/life.

Summary: What's wrong guys? Can't handle it?
Review: Face it, Bill Phillips knows what he's talking about. He's motivational, inspirational, and clearly understandable. It's concise and to the point. I don't remember him advertising EAS supplements more than maybe...twice...and SO WHAT? Have you given it a chance? C'mon guys...quit complaining and start making a positive change in your life...like maybe your ATTITUDE. I strongly suggest reading this book. It's a life-changing experience.

No, I don't work for EAS or know Bill Phillips..(although I'd like to. Positive reinforcement is a good thing).

Summary: If your ONLY concern is how you look...
Review: If you are only worried about how you look, this may be the book for you. For those looking to feel better as well as look better, should look elsewhere. Much of the problem with this book is that is barely covers total health. Recent studies on meal replacements powders are not good and this book suggest large quantities of those same products. Total body health does not seem to be the focus of this book. How many of you know people who have dedicated years to looking big and strong? Today those same people may be fat and have heart problems, kidney problems, liver problems, etc. The focus on having "ultimate body" can be your worst enemy in the future.

Summary: Need the Motivation? Read the book.
Review: Just how many reviews has this book received anyway? (That alone should tell you something.) Body for Life is an excellent one stop shop for information on starting a body altering excercise routine. If you aren't a long time subscriber to Muscle Media, then it's worth the $ to have all the info you need in one place. Much of the information has been said in past copies of MM, and on Bills web site, but the book ties it all together. It also takes you through some self exploration that many of us need and some others do not. I'd buy it again.

Summary: A great place to start!
Review: The mags for the last two months have all the information ... but, the book is for a good cause.

I think it's a great place to start, a non active person isn't intimidated by a commitment for 3 hrs/wk of exercising, the 'free day' is a great idea, because you can always hold on until Sat, and the fellow at the 'buff' store said it boosts your metabolism if not done every day ...

I started this program (from the mag) about 6 weeks ago, when I started I was 212 lbs and 47% body fat, now, I'm 202 lbs and 46% body fat. Not quite the Miraculous results experienced by others, but a more "realistic" result none the less.

Am I happy? Yes. I don't like the excessive protein from the diet (way more than recommended by the food guide) but, like i said it's a great starting point, the only thing I'd recommend to people starting out is this ... if the exercise/diet regime isn't optimizing your health just remember to adjust it about every 4 weeks. It sounds like it would take a long time to 'do what's right for you' but there isn't a miracle diet and everyone's different. Be patient and remember how long it took you to get where you are.

It's ok if it takes a while to get back. It took me 14 years to go from a 130 lb size 10 to a 212 lb size 20, so if it takes me a couple more to get back to my physical capibilities from when I was 18, then that's OK.

Summary: This Book Gave Me The Confidence to Get BAck On Track
Review: I was 240 pounds with 22 % body fat. I was getting lazyer and eat over the limit. Body for life helped me lose 20 puonds in one month.
