Summary: The negative comments can go Rain On Someone Else's Parade
Review: I loved the video and loved the book it got me back off my ass and back on my way to a healthier and life. Bill's book gave me just the motivation I needed to lose the excess weight I gained after having my son almost 3 years ago. I've never boughten any books before or went on no crazy diets but his video touched my heart and made me see I can get back to where I was 3 years ago. I know that I wont lose all the weight in 12 weeks but i'll be 3/4 of the way there and thats a start. My results so far have been incredible in this whole 2 1/2 weeks then I seen at the gym in the 5 months prior I was going. I lost 10 pounds in 5 months not being on the program and I lost 9 pounds in just over 2 weeks on Bill's program and my legs are firmer my muscles are bigger where I can actually see the difference. So to all you critical people who are complaining etc etc about this program being a joke and saying he's just a good salesman etc (which I'm sure he is) are probally your own insecurities surfacing. I'm not expecting the results I see on the cover of the book but atleast I am seeing reults and like I said better then what those people at my gym gave me for a program. If the book and video do anything even just to get people back on their way to good health and shape then it was worth every penny I spent and the others I tell about this book also. So I say to you Bill CHEERS for not putting together some ad selling video or book but rather for the caring you truly show in the both of them. >:o) Oh and to all you people who complain about the myoplex being to expensive ( this is mainly for the women) do what i do and buy the plus or deluxe and split it in half that way instead of 20 packets I get 40. It's like having the Myoplex lite since Myoplex lite has 25 grams of protein and Myoplex plus 42. That is the only subsitute I use for the odd meal I cannot squeeze in. In Canada however ours cost around 65-75 dollars to get it. In the states its only 33 dollars. Which hits the pocket book hard.

My one downfall about this contest is that I do not have 130 dollars a months for the Betagen or the other expensive supplements because i do have a family to feed..not just me. So where I do think this contest is unfair is that most of the winners purchased the body fat burners and HMB etc etc because obviously they had the money to do so...where as I cannot afford all these products and I think it gives the people who can afford it and the poeple who cannot a unfair advantage. I think the results of taking some of these other products are more effective and will show morw difference then someone who cannot afford them. My basic feeling about the contest is if I win a prize it's only a added bonus but the real prize will be seeing me back in clothes I've stored away for 3 years.

Thank All and to everyone who is on the program, stick with it, it will be worth it and don't expect miracles in 12 weeks but give it everything you've got in those 12 weeks and after those 12 weeks :)

Thank you, Sonya

Summary: I'm sorry I wasted time on this book...complete garbage!
Review: Kudos to all those EAS employees for their loyalty. You guys wrote some plausible reviews, were it not for this annoying little thing called content of the book. Body for Life is absolute garbage. Where should I start: the poor writing, the specious looking before and after pictures or the thinly veiled marketing tone of the book? Anyway, I hope Bill and his legion of devotees one day channel all this effort and cultish devotion towards more spiritual (and therefore more rewarding) pursuits. Exercise in moderation is great. Squandering your wealth on high carb muscle food is stupid. But thanks to Body for Life, the toast of Golden, CO can be a Millionaire for Life.

Summary: It works, and I feel great, that's what really matters!
Review: I'm getting really tired of reading all the bad reviews on thisbook. It seems to me that the people who are bashing Body for Life, never even tried the program! I've been on the program for 5 weeks now, I am down 15 pounds, and have lost 5 inches total. I feel great, have tons of energy, and I am calmer and more focused in everything I do. I realize that Bill does suggest that you use Myoplex shakes, but so what! The shakes are just as good as any on the market and they make it easy to eat 6 meals a day. They also satisfy my sweet tooth! This program is much better suited for someone who is out of shape and looking to transform themselves, not body builders looking to add more mass. The bottom line is, if you stick to it and commit yourself, it will work. No book is going to change your life. The change comes from you, the book is just the tool that helps you.

Summary: Almost halfway through, amazed by results.
Review: Wow, what varying opinions here. A very interesting comment from some wannabe claiming that the photos are doctored. If they are, fine. I haven't taken any photos of myself, but the results are amazing. Energy through the roof, twenty pound weight loss (10 to go) muscle definition for the first time ever, and time to enjoy my life, wife and kids. Oh yes, and no hunger or mood swings either. Fat pants to the back of the closet, size 34 back to the front. For those of you who don't like the idea of 20 minutes of aerobics,do 30 like I do. All I know is that I sure feel better now doing interval training. Did Bill Phillips publish this book to make more money by selling supplements? Probably. Do I care? Absolutely not!

Summary: SAVE YOUR MONEY--BUY THE MAGAZINE "MUSCLE MEDIA"
Review: this book is weak and poorly written. it raises more questions than it answers. the jist of the book could be summarized in 10 pages saving readers the tiresome, preachy philosophy lesson. if the book encourages and motivates readers, fine. however, as a detailed, "how to", step by step guide, it falls short. a much better book, very detailed and quantitative is The Lean Routine. I don't recall the author's name. Finally,I would suggest buying the magazine and saving your money - the same information is found in the magazine.

Summary: Our pictures haven't been doctored!
Review: Just wanted everyone to know first hand...the "computer graphics expert" is welcome to come see our orginals. The truth is that Renee and I took those pictures with our own camera, at our own house, with the camera on a tripod and the timer set. The pictures in the book look exactly the same as the day we picked them up from Wal-mart. I know most of the others pictured in the book and NO ONE would put up with any "funny business" from EAS or Bill Phillips! The Transformations are REAL and the changes you experience in your lives are worth the effort. The book is simple to follow if you are committed to changing your life for the good!

Summary: Informative and Enlightening View of Physique Transformation
Review: Finally, a book that is written with the average person in mind.

It's funny but I've read the comments of other fellow readers of this book, and I can't help but wonder if they've read the same book I've just read?! I don't understand why someone would rather spend time and energy trying to make the book and its results to appear as a hoax when that same energy could be spent sculpting their own body!

This book is for real!

There are not any lengthy discussions about Bill's supplements, nor are there recommendations that the only way to get results is to take them. Bill gives OPTIONS! Just like with his exercises, he gives OPTIONS!

I have lost seven inches in four weeks using the techniques he illustrated in his book! I am a new mother of seven months and I feel so much energy I wonder if my daughter can keep up with me!

This works for real people. The book is such an easy read, too. Being so busy, I read a few pages each night and completed the book in a week! There are no gimmicks, no miracle cure-alls, and definately no lies. This is a straight forward book that tells you what you need to know, and a lot of what you don't know!

Finally, a person who wants to help you with your body sculpting journey. The proceeds of this book do not go to him, but the Make-A-Wish Foundation. In the book he even offers lots of free help including videos, supplement advice, audio cassettes, and a staff of people just a phone call away waiting to help.

Good luck with your journey into sculpting yourself into how you've always wanted to be. With Bill's guidance and your DEDICATION it can be done effectively!

Summary: good solid, liveable advice, especially for beginners
Review: Initially I didn't think much of this book. Not anything I didn't already know or applied in my 15 + or - years of weight training. Nothing I hadn't seen in some form in various bodybuilding and fitness magazines, including Bill Phillips MUSCLE MEDIA. I did do one of his transformation challenges, and I believe his contest and all the before and after photos are legit. (*see postscript on this issue*) I let it set for a while and then my husband picked it up, read it and actually seemed interested. He got out the cooler to take food to work and actually worked out. He hasn't worked out consistently as long as I've known him. So I decided to take a second look.

On looking at this again and giving it a try for a week I love it. I'm not in that bad of shape and I dropped three pounds this week, plus I'm getting stronger rather than just staying at the same level. Though it is very simple to follow it contains many complex principles. The routines will work for anyone because they use their own perceived effort as the guideline. The progression from a 5 effort and cycling up and down towards 8/9 - 10 efforts contains its own warm-up effect. It uses the progressive resistance and pyramiding principles... and finishes off with a super set! The pushing towards a maximum effort on one set is much more realistic than trying to go to the max every set and every rep. Some people might need to do a bit more of a warm-up and a cool down but I think if you start at a 5 out of 10 effort and work your way up that is an adequate warm-up.

The portion method in the nutrition program is much simpler to follow than calorie counting, as long as you're honest on the portion size and allowed foods. I don't feel as deprived as I do when I'm counting calories and weighing out foods. Getting enough fiber is possible I think, I'd tend to switch out a bran cereal for the carbs once or twice a day. Otherwise it is certainly better than the average person's diet and is quite livable. I do like Myoplex (the EAS brand meal replacement shake) but there are other products that are just as good and not as pricey. Check some of the online supplement stores, they can deliver at a price as good or better than the GNC gold card day... just watch the shipping charges when calculating your total cost and shop around.

All in all, this book gives solid, effective and livable solutions to being fit. Bill Phillips always has a positive, can-do attitude and is easy to read. I will probably be getting a few copies of this to give out at Christmas to friends and relatives. I paid full retail at the local bookstore - so the Amazon price makes this a very good value.

*****Postscript***** This in response to the charge that the before and after photos in Bill Phillips' contest are faked:

People lose and gain muscle/fat in their neck and that is what makes people think that these are cut and paste jobs. I know a bit about computer graphics, I've seen all of the literature with better before and after photos and I believe these photos are for real. Look at the men's chests, there are different types of nipples (pardon) and you can match that regardless of bodyfat. Look at the faces, a big weight loss shows in the face... Porter Freeman's face changed from his weight loss. That cannot be just pasting a head on the before photo. Look at a good color before/after of Lynn Lingenfelter, he has a huge scar on his stomach... look at the hands - they are the same!

Now I will say that many people in their before photos purposely slouch, push out their gut, mess up their hair, are pale, look depressed and other tricks to contrast with their after photos... but that is not the same as a cut-and-paste fraud. I lost 15 lbs of fat and gained 5 lbs of muscle in 16 weeks during the contest I entered last year. I look quite different in my before and after photos, so much more for someone who lost more fat and/or gained more muscle.

Summary: full of great information and motivation
Review: Body for Life is definately a great book for those who would like to change their lifestyle but have no idea on how to get started. It maps out what you need to do, step by step. Bill is down to earth and genuinely cares about people and it shows through his writing. If you need something to motivate you and give you the information you need to begin a healthy lifestyle then this book is for you. I have the hard copy so I can use the weight training pictures and the progress reports. I also have the audio book so that I can listen to it in my car when I need additional motivation. It's different to hear his voice and have him as your personal motivator. This book is worth the money.

Summary: Excellent kick start to a stalled work out regimen
Review: I read Body for LIFE and immediately recognized that this was for me. I have been working out regularly for a long time and have been more and more frequently reaching plateaus in my development. I have tried every type of training split heard of and have been a believer in supplements since I started training. I had been stuck at 20 % body fat despite increases in aerobic sessions. I had reached the point where catabolism was becoming a problem due to increased duration of workouts and increased aerobics. I tried creatine and L-glutamine supplementation with only minimal effects. Essentially I was good and frustrated when I found "Body for Life". I made an honest commitment to stick to the nutrition plan, including the supplements, and the exercise plan that is set forward in the book. The commitment was the key. Sticking with the plan, even when I wasn't sure if it would work, proved to be the ticket to success. Even the change in mental disposition has benefited me in not only my workouts, but in every day life.

To all you who would try and throw cold water on the ideas presented in Body for LIFE, get of your duffs and try it. If it doesn't work for you, then go try something else. I for one would bet that if you commit to it, it will work for you as well. I can tell you from my personal experience that the gym is full of overweight body builders, and the obligatory ripped steroid freaks. The minority of people in the gym are the ones that are lean, say 9-12% body fat for men, and still making muscle gains without steroids. I know several gym-rats that never lose an ounce of fat, and cheat on their reps, that could benefit from using this program. If you follow the intensity program as it's laid out, you will make muscle gains as well. This program elicited more of a growth hormone release and subsequent growth response than I could have anticipated. If you don't weasel out on the intensity, this program could produce results for you. You have to lift heavy at the top of your sets, and don't waste time between sets. Usually by the time you rack the next weight and catch your breath it's time for another set. Believe me this will shock your system into a growth response. A couple of light sets flush the tissue with blood and prime your body's neuromuscular path ways to the targeted muscles. Then it's time to blast them. By the time you squeeze out the last rep of the last set you should have a fire in you muscle tissue that you won't soon forget. If your not getting that good burn then that's what I call weaseling out on the intensity. SO TRY IT!

Finally, to all of you who would like to criticize the author, Bill Phillips, for his self promotion, what do you do for a living? Do you not promote yourself? What kind of person does not promote him/herself. I seriously wonder if many of you have even read the book. There is not an over abundance of EAS promotion. But then I guess you would rather have the book promote someone else's line of supplements. That makes about as much sense as General Motors convincing people that it's a good idea to get off their horses and try this thing called a car, but go try someone else's maybe Toyota or B.M.W. As if capitalism itself isn't enough to placate some of you, Bill Phillips gives away his video's for free and asks that in return the recipient make a charitable donation to the Make a Wish Foundation. That's pretty devious on his part. Still I wonder if many of you critics have even read the book, our you might understand this one too. There, I've said my peace.

I strongly recommend this book to anyone looking to get in shape, or change the shape they're in
