Rating: Summary: Are Bill's Success Cases Steroid Monters? Review: I have read every review -- some several times -- regarding Bill's hot new book/tape and would like to suggest a different, yet very scary perspective. The winners of his "contest" who have used his BODY FOR LIFE system are illuminated in a video he previously produced (i.e., BODY OF WORK). If you can get your hot little hands on the video (and I strongly recommend that you do) you will discover that the "winners" (yes those great looking folks Bill parades in front of our eyes) may have used steroids. Is this my jaded option? No! If you watch the video you will see much to your chagrin that Bill Phillip's own expert in the movie unequivocally states that several of the guys were on the juice (yeh steroids). On the video Bill insists he does not believe it and needless to say the contestents deny it. Nonetheless, his expert says they were using roids. Therefore, the bottomline is that the transformation you are looking at could be drug induced!!! Horrors. Just for the record the video ends with no evidence whatsoever that the people did not take drugs. Again let me repeat that: Nobody on the video, not even Bill, can attest to the fact that these some of these folks were on the level.
Rating: Summary: Not Enough Praise Can Be Given Review: Bill's in your face style of writing is brutally honest and to the point. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to see the points that Bill makes about fitness and what it takes to obtain that "perfect you" that every one can acheive. I read the book in half a day it so held my attention. This book is informative with out being dry and uninteresting. The real life success stories are heartfelt without being sappy. These are real people that obtained real results and I have seen the worst hard nose sceptics say hey that makes sense after reading only a portion of the book. Any one that is curious about this book should just go ahead and read it it's an investment in yourself!
Rating: Summary: very disappointed!! Review: I was very disappointed, it made it seem by getting this book, sure you would have to cut down on certain foods, diet, exercise, etc, but never did I expect to have to either join a gym, or go out and spend money on a home gym..I thought for a change, I would find a book, that I could follow like ADKINS and work out at home, by doing simple exercises without spending ALOT OF MONEY on equipment!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK, UNLESS you want to spend more money on a gym!!!
Rating: Summary: Results are all that matter- I'm down 55lbs and 10%Bodyfat Review: Those who bash the book and the program are just looking for one more excuse not to get their life together - It's not about a 12 week program - It's not about Myoplex and Betagen - It's about your life and what you choose to do with it. As for me, I choose to live healthy for my remaining days! Thanks Bill --
Rating: Summary: Gaining control of ... your life Review: Body for Life evokes strong opinions and emotions: either you like this book or you don't. Those who like the book do so either because they tried with some success the fitness program Bill Phillips recommends in the book (or they hope eventually to muster the gumption to try his program). And those who dislike the book may do so either because they do not try his fitness program, or lack the gumption to do so, or highly resent Phillips' apparent financial success. Body for Life is not a literary work of art, nor does it pretend to be. It is a "how to" book with emphasis on motivation, practical application and results. It is human nature to be skeptical of claims of success, and of course the reader should maintain a healthy skepticism. One need only try Phillips' program, and suspend judgment on its value until a decent time has elapsed to determine whether the program works. The key to the book is Phillips' statement: "When you gain control of your body, you will gain control of your life." You either believe that, or you don't. Following Phillips' fitness program (which includes nutrition) is not 'a piece of cake', but requires hard work and enormous self-discipline. Indeed, it requires a massive change of lifestyle for the average couch potato. Phillips' obviously sells supplements, but Body for Life does not push his EAS supplements as being absolutely necessary to success with his program. Overall, Body for Life is a good 'how to' book that will amuse and infuriate many, especially with the 'before' and 'after' success stories it documents.
Rating: Summary: Motivation! Motivation! Motivation Review: I've recently read this book, seen the video, and Monday will be my first day on the Program. I'm a veteran "on-and-off" athlete, and all I can say is, if this motivates people to get off the couch and finally do something about the way they look/live, than it's a true blessing. When I first read the book, I was really concentrating on finding the "catch". Over and over again I reviewed the principals of the workout and nutrition programs, and all I found was sound instruction and advice. Bill Phillips obviously knows people and he is a wonderful motivator! Read this book, make the decision, and do not let anyone tell you that it can't be done! GO FOR IT!
Rating: Summary: Always play to your audience Review: I have been going to the gym for years trying to maintain a decent physique, both to feel well and look good. The results have not been encouraging - a steady increase in bodyfat and equal decline in overall agility and energy. How to revamp my workouts to get maximum effect while maintaining a typically busy lifestyle? Which/whose program to follow, what with the gadzillion fads floating around? I wanted a program with common sense and structure that could fit my lifestyle. For me, finding this book was a firm step in a good direction. It has given me a foundation with which I am building a stronger, healthier body. The nutritional information is as important as the instructions on weight-lifting and aerobic exercise. For three weeks, I have been following the strategies outlined - not to the letter, mind you - and have started to see very encouraging results. My pants definitely are looser on me, my energy level has been higher, my digestion has been better, and I am sleeping well. I have not been using supplements either. I'm still debating whether or not I want to use them. I have been amazed at the negative reviews given by those who see this book as being an EAS marketing ploy, cut and paste fraud, too sentimental, fanatical on aspartame, etc. Well, what isn't a marketing ploy? Who cares if the photos are cut and paste?? (I doubt they are.) Who cares if the writing is sentimental and not classic prose?? If you don't want to use aspartame products, then don't! USE YOUR OWN COMMON SENSE, PEOPLE!! No one has to follow Bill's lifestyle choices 100%. I think the small amount of $$ I spent on this book has already given me a solid jumpstart to taking much better care of the only body I have. I think Bill has done us "average" folks (unlike those bodybuilders up there on Mt. Olympus) a service by outlining a program which is efficient, effective and simple to follow. What you do with it is your business. For those of you who are not bodybuilders, but want to take better care of your body, try this book.
Rating: Summary: Great book for beginning to get a grip on your life Review: I've read the book, finished the 12 week challenge and read 2 issues of MuscleMedia. Nine months ago, I hadn't heard of Bill Phillips or his company(s), but I'm thankful that I've come across his writings. The concepts that Bill articulates in his book really work. Anybody can make a HUGE change in their lives by following Bill's success formula. It's all about balance. Resistance training, Cardiovascular training and nutrition (including of course, supplements). It wasn't until I integrated all three that I began to see results. Of course, it takes some self discipline also, which gives you a healthy measure of self respect. I've seen lots of negative reviews, but results speak for themselves. In 12 weeks, I lost 15 pounds of fat and gained over 8 pounds of lean muscle. My before and after pictures are amazing, and my wife likes my new "look" too. Those contest winners have one more thing going for them....good genetics. Not everybody can achieve the results you see in the photos in 12 weeks, but many can. The point is, ANYBODY can benefit from exercising the self displine to eat healthy food, and follow a balanced exercise plan. This book gives you a simple, successful plan. No guesswork. By the way, I've studied the list of ingredients on the EAS product, indluding Myoplex. I have not found Aspartame listed anywhere. If you want to improve the quality of your life, I highly recommend buying the book, reading the book and following Bill's recommendations. YOUR results will be the proof that it works!
Rating: Summary: Just Do It! Review: Hello??? To all of you who wrote the negative reviews...no wonder this book did not speak to or work for you, pessimism will get you nowhere fast. I have seen results in four weeks and by the way if you watch the video you know that all finalists were tested for chemical use. THIS BOOK IS FABULOUS AS IS HIS VIDEO "BODY OF WORK".
Rating: Summary: Seems a pattern brewing here .... Review: I am on my second week, and have already lost 7 lbs from this program. With six meals a day, I am not ever starving. As far as the Myoplex and supplements, I am not doing that as of this time, just doing meals. I am going to add some supplements this week. The thing I want to point out about these "reviews" is: why do the naysayers never put their email addresses on these posts ... as if they are afraid to be contacted? I find this interesting. The people that are having success are MORE than willing to put their email addresses, and to be contacted. To anyone making a decision based up on these reviews, please think about that. Perhaps the negative reviews come from people who don't have the will to stick to a program and have some how failed, so they have to lay the blame elsewhere. As far as Bill Phillips pushing his supplements in the book, well that's just not the truth. He mentions it on three pages out of 210, and that's it. He even says you can do the program without the meal replacement. He offers the option of a meal replacement as an alternative to those who find it hard to fit in "six" meals a day, or for people on the go. He never says you have to use HIS products for this program to work. I am not using his products, and it IS working. As far as *only* 20 minutes of aerobics, if you read the book, he speaks of "intensity training" which is picking up the intensity of your aerobics session .. up to level 10. He's not saying you can do 20 minutes of a leisurely pace on the treadmill and get results. Stop giving false information on these reviews!!! You definitely are not giving ALL the information, only the part that suits your need to find fault. This book is REAL. The information is REAL. The pictures are REAL. The program WORKS. The motivation is phenomenal. ALL the proceeds from this book go to the "Make a Wish Foundation." Bill Phillips is REAL. If you really want to change your life, get this book.
