Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: I did the program outlined in the book and was disappointed with results. The book itself for the most part was inspiring , the video "Body of work " was wonderful. BUT, for the amount of time spent working out , planning meals , tracking results etc... I feel I would have produced the same results with less stress and cost if I just monitored my diet and worked out consistently. The key point is being consistent , the book definately provides structure and tips to build a better body and life , no question. But as has been noted in previous reveiws it is not new information and, the book,Muscle Media and the web site all have the same information , testimonials and Q&A . I have spoken to personally and exchanged emails with people who have acheived unbeleivable results, I congratulate them sincerely , but, if you are going to undertake a training regimen of these proportions you need to have a great deal more information than is provided. Supplements are expensive and need to be researched extensively ( supplement review is provided by EAS). To summarize ,the book seems to be the "Make the Connection" of 99 , if you eat smart and exercise you will see results. Some of the people I have communicated with who did the program are fanatical about it , too hyped as if it is the end all save all, maybe so. I read the book , did the program ( as outlined in the book )followed the diet outlined and was disappointed. It is a great marketing move for EAS though.
Rating: Summary: After two weeks I've seen huge progress Review: I read this book and started the program on 9/28/99. As of 10/9 I have lost 8lbs. and have gained a notch on my belt. All of my clothes are fitting better. My collars actually fit!I am 36, male and started at 216 lbs (5'9"). This program is the best fitness program and eating plan that I've ever tried, and I've tried them all, Atkins, Weight Watchers, even Stop the Insanity (What WAS I thinking???). This program helps you eat balanced meals more often, so that you are never hungry. Plus the workout plan has already made noticeable changes to my muscles (Who know they were even there). If you're overwieght GET THIS BOOK. If it can work for me, it can work for ANYONE.
Rating: Summary: Real solution to physical fitness! Review: Fitness made easy could be the subtitle of this book. Of course, you've gotta stay with it, but it ain't hard. It's one of the best guides on physical fitness that I've read in many years. Certainly, this book is a motivating read. Another book that I highly recommend which will provide the mental and spiritual health you need, and a book that has helped me tremendously is Dietmar Scherf's "I Love Me: Avoiding and Overcoming Depression" also available at Amazon.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book!!!!!!! Review: This review is for the "Reader from Quebec Canada, Sep 29,1999. I have read Bill's book and have followed it to the letter and I have gone from 188lbs to 195lbs. My body fat went from 10.4% to 6.6% and this is just in the first FOUR WEEKS. Someone is wrong here, but I don't think its Bill. The book works for me and I recommend it to anyone who is serious about making a change in their life.
Rating: Summary: Note to the BeanPole Review: Try the Phosphagen HP in place of the Myoplex. To me it seems as if you don't intake enough carbs. Just a thought. As far as the book goes: Good motivation, sound principles, although you can substitute Myoplex with another workout supplement that is cheaper and just as effective. No, I don't think this book is an ad for EAS, although it does mention Myoplex. But for a college student like me, it is just too expensive. Other than that, good book.
Rating: Summary: it changed my life Review: Out of about 50 books in the past two years Body For Life was in the top two, the other book is titled Sports Supplement Review also by Bill Philips. To sum it up BILL PHILIPS IS THE MAN!!!!
Rating: Summary: Outstanding!!! Review: I've been on this program for a couple weeks now. Already I've seen an amazing change for such a short time. I'm in the Marine Corps, and I'm not out of shape. But I've gotten to a point where I'm looking for something better for my physical training. I have a lot of really big friends, but they worked for years to get that way! And every time I go to the gym someone is always giving me some crazy advice that they heard from some other crazy person. This book really breaks it down. And there is plenty of proof provided in the many pictures and stories in the book. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to change their life forever.
Rating: Summary: It's about LIFE... Review: Body for Life is not just another fitness book, or diet book, or motivational book. True, in some measure Bill Phillips' book is all of these things... but it is much more. Unlike so many other books or programs of this type, the B-f-L program is about, as Phillips puts it, "crossing the Abyss"; it is a guidebook to changing who you are from the inside out... not just about going from fat to lean or weak to strong but about living life to its fullest. The text itself is crisp and chatty, as if it were a record of a conversation with Phillips, himself, talking about the program. As far as fitness books go - it's 5 stars: rather than dictate every day and every ounce and every repetition, the B-f-L program creates a pattern - what becomes a new pattern of behavior in one's life. The "diet" isn't about counting calories or weighing scraps of lettuce - it's about living with food - LOTS of food - often. And the motivation isn't "no pain/ no gain" or "are you ready to get pumped up?", but about finding that inner strength to change not only your body, but your life.
Rating: Summary: Motivational and Informative: A Great Guide to a Better Life Review: About eight weeks ago I decided to do something about the way I looked and how I was living my life. I bought this book becaue I was concidering entering the Body for Life Challange. After reading it I was convinced I could make the twelve weeks and make great gains with my physique and life style. I'm six weeks into the contast and I have lost 6 pounds (180 to 174). My body fat has gone from 20.3% down to 18.7%. This is not something that works overnight. It takes time and effort. I expect my fat percentage will drop to around 10% while I maintain my body weight. I've read this book several time now and always seem to find something in it to keep me focused and motivated. The information found here is beneficial to anyone who really wants to make a change. As far as the contest goes, whether I'm selected as a champion or not, with the way I've been feeling, I'll be a winner. I highly recommend this book as it has shown me the way to better nutrition and to a better life.
Rating: Summary: This is the program that worked for me. Review: After years of yo-yo dieting and confused approaches to exercise, I found Body-for-LIFE and I am very pleased. This book provided a framework for developing a clear vision of my goals and a plan to accomplish them. The only part I skipped was taking a "before" picture (which I have regretted) but the comments of my friends and family have been all the proof I need. This program really did change my life and I recommend it. Two caveats: First, make no mistake. This is a program with a specific focus on BODYBUILDING. The results of the complete program are much more than that, but the exercise focuses on free weights. I have watched several people, eager to know just how I did it, listen hungrilly to my testimonial about the book, but dismiss it out of hand when I start talking about going to the gym and using dumb bells. It seems strange to me, but there it is. Second, do your best to work the COMPLETE program. don't edit out the parts you don't feel sure about. Talk to your doctor and a personal trainer, but don't skip anything.
