Summary: People are so cynical
Review: This book is self-serving, supplements are expensive, and some of the diet information is incorrect. This may or may not be true (depending on who you speak to). But I can ganentee that this program works. And will work for you better then you expect! I have been to two personal trainers, and used other books/videos. Nothing even comes close to this program. Bill is a genus because he has taking so many fitness concepts and integrated into a program that the average person can follow. It is simple and it works, really, really well. But it also takes hard work. If you are willing to believe in this program for 12 weeks and NOT MODIFY it at all, you will transform your body. Its that simple.

If you think those photos are not real, go to www.clubs.yahoo.com. Join one of the Body for Life clubs, look at photos of real people and judge for your-self. Don't believe the people who put down this program, they never tried it!

Summary: Delivers on it's`promise!
Review: I received a copy of Body for Life for Christmas and read it cover to cover on Christmas Day. I started the program the first week in January and have been following it ever since. According to my body ft measurements, I have gained 12 pounds of muscle and lost 10 pounds of fat. I have a way to go before I will look like any of the contestants pictured in the book however. My energy level has gone way up and I simply feel better than I have in well over 20 years! (I am 53 years old.)

Bill's combination of diet, aerobics, and weight training is easy to understand and follow, even for someone like me who has never been particularly athletic. Terrific book, terrific program.

Summary: Nothing New
Review: This would have been a great book if I had never read another book or article about health. It says nothing new. I agree with the reviewer from Pennsylvania who said he should spend more time taking about HOW to get there, instead of trying to motivate us. Surely we are already motivated if we have spent money on the book.

Also the way Bill Phillips pushes his own products was a real turnoff. It was as if I had paid him to be able to advertise to me! I intend to get there, but not with the help of this book! ...................It is only for people who cannot motivate themselves.

Summary: If there is a will there is a way
Review: This book is an inspiration for everyone. If you want to changeyour lifestyle and feel absolutely wonderful. Buy it! You won't bedissapointed.

Summary: WOW! The 'KIS' (Keep It Simple) principle in action
Review: The five stars is for the personal benefit I anticipate from reading this book, not for the author's writing style (who's conversational approach is appealling to me)or proper sentence structure (Dangling participles - what? who cares?). I cracked this book last night as I was settling in for a few minutes of nightstand reading. Two hours later I finished (it's a quick, fun read and I just could not put it down)and was so excited I felt butterflies. Today I'm tired from lack of sleep, but I've still got the butterflies! Not that the techniques are ground-breaking or the diet is so wild. But damnit, this program is just so SIMPLE and DO-ABLE, that yes, even I can and will do it!

More than a couple reviews have implied that the book is a scam - nothing new and self promoting. Well high-intensity training HAS been around for a long time, and a balanced, low fat, low sugar diet isn't exactly nobel prize material. But Bill has broken it down into the simplest easy to follow map I have ever seen on fitness and diet. I didn't see any 'bait and switch' to sell more products either. Yes he does mention some suppliments you can buy from his company, but I certainly never got the impression I NEED them for success, more for conveinience (and quite frankly, I have no intention of buying ANY suppliment other than Centrum multi-vitamins from the local Rexall). Does this insult my intelligence that he mentions a couple of products you could buy from him? Not at all, for that I'll go to any of Wade Cook's financial books(truly shameless).

There's just SOMETHING about this book, I've never felt so motivated to take action!

Summary: Very Effective if you follow the Program
Review: I read the book in the fall of 1999,gave the Program a half-hearted effort, and saw no dramatic results. For some reason, though, my first try convinced me that the program could work. Now, 5 weeks into my second try, I've lost 16.5 pounds of fat and gained 12.5 pounds of muscle mass. (I bought a Tanita scale to measure my progress.) I can't remember feeling this physically fit before, and I was a decent high school athlete. There's no hocus-pocus here, just be disciplined. As with just about any other diet or exercise program, if you aren't absolutely focused, you won't get the results. There is NO QUESTION that the before/after pictures of other participants are very motivating; take a look at Muscle Media magazine...

Summary: Cross the abyss ---- you are going to love this!
Review: I have read and tried nearly every diet out there. This is NOT a diet. It is a lifestyle. It is much more than nutrition, it is about putting the whole package together. Bill Phillips does an excellent job taking us on a journey helping us to make the decisions and set goals and understand our own reasons for wanting to transform our body before he tells us how to eat and exercise. I think of it as a BodyForLife Burrito. You have to wrap all the ingredients up in a reason and goals or it all just falls apart!

Congratulations on taking the first step. Bill Phillips not only offers the book, but a website, a toll-free help line, a $100,000 challenge for year 2000, and success story videos that are great motivational tools.

I encourage you to cross the abyss - to a more physically and mentally fit you!

Summary: This book will change your life
Review: If you're like me, you've found your self gaining weight as you get older. All of a sudden you look in a mirror, and say "Oh my, what happened?"

I have been on this program for 9 weeks and the results are incredible. I started out at 220 lbs. I'm 36, 5'9", and male. After 9 weeks I am down to 200 lbs, and I see a huge difference in my body, I actually can see some definition in muscles.

It's a simple plan with balanced meals that include protein & carbs. From all the diet books you'd think you could never combine the two. But this plan is balanced and easy.

The workout program just requires a set of dumbells. The exercises are clearly explained and you will see results.

This book has changed the way I live. It will help you too.

Get healthy and get Body for life.

Summary: Believe me, it works!
Review: () It is NOT a "quick-fix" program, it is meant to be a new way of life. If you do not have the motivation or the willpower, it won't work. But for me, it has made me a new person. I have so much more confidence in myself and am so proud of myself that I have the discipline to do this and I am seeing such fantastic results. I have gone from 22% body fat to 16% in 5 weeks. My cellulite on my legs is GONE.

It is also not a "low-carb" diet. (I have no idea where these people are getting their information!) You get plenty of food, and yes, the supplements are expensive, but you don't HAVE to use them. I just choose to because I don't want to fix 6 meals a day and luckily my husband and I can afford them. You can also use nutritional bars for people who work and find it difficult to have a shake or a meal every time. (My husband is a doctor and if he can do it with his schedule, then anyone can.) The thing is, this is how you SHOULD eat, whether you like it or not. And we have saved money, even with the cost of the supplements, by not buying any junk food and not going out to eat as often. You can have delicious meals--it's not like you are deprived at all. Just no 2nd or 3rd helpings, which you shouldn't be eating anyway if you are trying to get into shape! It has truly changed our lives as we start our 6th week on the program and we could not give this book any higher recommendation. It makes the whole thing so easy to follow the way it is explained--we call it our "bible" now! The book tells you exactly what to do and will motivate you to no end. And for the people who say the pictures are fake, they are not. I have my own "before" pictures as proof compared to what I look like now. Buy this book--if you are ready to do it, it will change your life. I cannot imagine sitting on the couch and eating a bag of potato chips ever again. I don't even have any desire to. For the people who are complaining that you have to belong to a gym or buy a lot of equipment--folks, I have news for you. If you don't incorporate weight training along with aerobic activity, it is not going to work. You might lose weight, but at the expense of your muscle mass, which you will also be losing. But actually, all you really need is a few sets of dumbbells and a barbell with some weight plates. You don't have to go out and buy a treadmill and a universal gym. I have tried every diet known to man, and I used to run 3 miles every day without fail, and I have never seen results like I have with this. It is wonderful to feel the same way after doing 20 minutes of intense cardio as I did after slaving for an hour at it like I used to. 20 minutes is nothing! No, it's not really easy to do, but who are all these people that expect getting in shape to be easy? Although for me, it is much easier than anything else I have ever tried because for the first time in my life, I actually look forward to working out. The nutritional plan is not difficult for me because I know at the end of the week I get a "free day" when I can eat whatever I want to eat. My husband and I have not cheated one time--not even a jelly bean--and we feel perfectly satisfied. Like I said, we don't want to eat junk anymore. As a matter of fact, we don't even look forward to our free days as much as we used to because we feel so much better eating healthy the rest of the week. We also have 10 times more energy than we used to. I highly recommend this book, and this way of life, to anyone who is ready to totally commit themselves to being fit. You will not believe the results and you will be glad you did it. We will never go back to being the junk-eating slugs we were.
