Rating: Summary: acheive the body you desire Review: If you can only afford to invest in one"get-back-into-shape" book this year, this book should beone of your top contenders. After motivating you with (awesome) personal success stories, the author proceeds to dispell about a dozen widespread "myths" about dieting and working-out. These are presented in short, one-page essays that are recapped at the end of that section for review.
Rating: Summary: The best program - WE ARE LIVING PROOF! Review: This book is outstanding! My friend and I both have completed the program, on July 8, as outlined in the book and have achieved remarkable results. I lost 15 lbs. and 5 inches off my waist and my friend lost 35 lbs. and 6 inches off his waist in only 12 weeks! This book made working out and nutrition simple and easy for us. Anyone can achieve the same results that we did just by following the program in the book. Also, people who say that he is only promoting his supplements have NEVER read the book. On one page in the book, he mentions taking a meal replacement shake, and he recommends his own company brand; which he should since it is his own book. You don't need to take the shakes if you want to eat whole food for all the meals or you can take another brand of meal replacement shakes, but the shakes are not a major reason for a physique transformation to take place. It simply takes dedication and a willingness to stick to the program for 12 weeks. Please email us with any questions or to see pictures of our transformations. Hope to hear from you, and thank you Bill Phillips!
Rating: Summary: Are you ready to succeed? Review: This program is completely laid out for you. Yes, Bill Phillips promotes his EAS products, but that doesn't mean the program doesn't work. He has taken what he knows about nutrition science and exercise and combined it with the formula of success (hard work, dedication, competition, and sacrifice) to deliver a fool-proof method to build a better and stronger body and mind. In his 'Body of Work' video, he mentioned that the Greeks believed that when you strengthen your body, you strengthen your mind. Having done the program, I know now how true that statement is. The information on nutrition and exercise is nothing earth-shattering. However, knowledge is nothing without action. This book is designed to help you take action. Like in 'The Matrix', "There's a difference between knowing the path and walking the path." This book will "show you the door, but you're the one who has to walk through it." Bill Phillips could be on the other side of that door giving you a check for $100,000.
Rating: Summary: Program not easy for average person Review: This book does not provide the structure required for the food end of the diet. It has great descriptions of the exercises and planning. The food however is briefly decribed as to the benefits of each grouping and a one week meal plan is included. The (not-so-cheap) protein powder is also prominently featured and "suggested" as well. Unless you have ALOT of extra time to plan this program around the rest of your life, this may not be the plan for you.
Rating: Summary: IT WORKS! Review: I have been an athlete all my life (35 years). When a family tragedy occupied ALL of my time for two years, I gained over 30 pounds. Following the author's program put me in as good of shape as when I was in high school. To get results, I stongly recommend morning workouts before eating. You must push yourself to your threshold of pain and pay attention to your meals. I have recommended this book to dozens of others. We all pushed eachother and have all achieved fantastic results!
Rating: Summary: Great book Review: We all know the best way to improved health is to eat well, get lots of rest, and excercise. But few people do as good a job of helping the reader know just how to do that than Bill Phillips. This is an excellent book full of useful information and excellently timed words of encouragement for all those who need a kick in the bum to get up and do something about your well-being. If you've never worked out before and want to start, then start with this book!
Rating: Summary: DON'T BE DISCOURAGED BY COST OF SUPPLEMENTS! Review: The main part of the supplements is getting the carbs and protein, but you can get these in other forms for alot less money. Egg whites and legumes are a great source of protein, and pasta, oatmeal, fruits and veggies are good sources of carbs. Don't let the price discourage you. I hate supplement drinks! If you eat 4 egg whites and a bowl of oatmeal (for example) instead of the supp. you will basically be getting the same thing, and it tastes alot better. I may not end up being as ripped as the supp. people, but I will look great and save alot of money! It seems to me that in order to keep that ripped physique you would have to continue drinking the EAS three times a day for the rest of your life, and that is around $150 a month! That's alot of money!
Rating: Summary: If you're commited, this is for you Review: Many of the folks criticizing this book obviously haven't read it properly. While Phillips does provide information about his EAS products, he NEVER says they are essential for success; they are merely available for those who have busier schedules or cannot stomach bringing some cottage cheese and yogurt to work. While the exercises can be a bit steep at first, he clearly states that you cannot expect to be at his level and should start off with what YOU can do. While this will be trial and error at first, he does state that and once you got the routine down, you're off and running. Finally, the claim that you have to belong to a gym or have thousands of dollars of equipment is baloney. I went to the store, spent about $150 for weights and a bench and can do the required exercises. I know the investment is worth it to get my health back! My homeopath recommended this book and I trust him completely. If you're serious about turning your life around, this is the book to get. Remember the old saying: No Pain, No Gain. I was sore at first because of the years of neglect but the motivational aspects of the book have kept me going and results are coming in. BTW, Bill is also a strong supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and a big chunk of the profits go there. So you're not only helping yourself, you're also helping others in need!
Rating: Summary: You can never get good advice too many times Review: The reason it's a 12 week program is because it's getting you prepared to live a healthy lifestyle. You're getting into the habit of eatting nutritious foods and exercising on a regular basis. It doesn't say you HAVE to continue using his EAS products or you will fail. As long as you center your diet around Legumes, Grains, Carbs, Fruits and Veggis the weight will stay off, and exercise will help you to look and feel your best. Sure, alot of books do say the same things over and over, but continuing to read the info and educating your self is what keeps you motivated. I've got 20 books on my shelf that basically all say the same thing, but I've learned very important things from each book. This book isn't about fad diets, it's about lifestyle change.
Rating: Summary: It's SIMPLE yet so many people are still out of shape Review: Sure, it may sound the same BUT this plan allows you to eat and doesn't recommend a long workout at the gym for a healthy body. And unlike Joe Weider, Phillips does not promote steroid bodybuilders as the epitome of health and fitness. Don't blame Phillips because he pushes supplements (and owns EAS), because Weider does the same thing. The critic/skeptic that tries to undermine the information here does an injustice to the thousands of people that have been helped because of this information. Phillips talks the talk and walks the walk. Not too many supplement manufactures and fitness magazine owners can say the same thing.
