Summary: I Got "Body for Life" last year, and I'm still using it
Review: I keep going over Bill Phillips,"Body for Life," for almost a year now. It's the last diet and workout book you'll ever need.Bill tells you what kind of foods to eat,and shows you, with picture's,the best weight workouts, and the proper way to do the sets, and how many. You don't have to be in the gym for hours doing hundreds of different machins and lifts.Bill just does the basics, and he looks fantastic. Also,I love the idea of cheating once a week, eating anything you want.Even if you want three Big Mac's,Bill tells you to "go for it."There's only one thing that Bill doesn't tell you in this book, and the pictures of people before and after are hard to believe.I use to weigh over 350,and I had all kinds of flab and fat I couldn't get rid of through workingout and diets.I finnally had an Abdominal plasty surgery done two months ago.If anyone wants to see my before and after pictures, give me an e-mail,and I'll send you my web-page,about the surgery, and my photo's. I want to thank Bill again. After being layed up for weeks, and not being able to workout,I'm starting to lift again, and have been using Bill's workout routines.Like I said before, after almost a year,"Body for Life" is still helping me get into shape, and recover from my surgery.

Summary: A LIFE CHANGING BOOK
Review: Body for life written by Bill Phillips is the greatest book i have ever read. In this world there is so much spectulation about whats healthy and whats best, and whats this and whats that. Phillips sums it all up for us in one decent sized portion that is extremely easy to understand and very very inspiring. I have begun my body for life transformation and I am going by what the book teaches, so far (3 weeks) my body has changed more than i thought it could in two complete weeks. There are many diet books out there, and the problem with those is, in this day and age, diet is a temporary word, what Bill Phillips reveals to us, is a method of good healthy living which you can do for the rest of your life. I strongly recommend this book to anybody that is down, either on life, or on their physical condition. Mr. Phillips deserves so much more credit than he gets for this book, and best of all profits go to the MAke A Wish foundation for children, so obviously this is no financial gain. Bill Phillips has a good heart, read his words and get inspired It will change your life forever!

Summary: A good foundation for building physical fitness
Review: "Body for Life" is an excellent book if you're a fitness beginner who's trying to figure out how to get in shape and stay in shape or, perhaps, someone who's been working out and/or dieting for a while and doesn't seem to be making much headway towards losing weight and getting in shape. Phillips does a good job of explaining the basic building blocks of fitness and of debunking a lot of the more prevalent fitness myths. He covers the proper way to exercise, both aerobics and weight training, proper diet, not some fad diet but rather how to eat real food in a healthy way, and how to motivate yourself and keep yourself motivated to stick to your goals.

There are a few caveats, however.

This is a very basic book. Don't think you're going to read this book and then know everything you need to know about fitness. It gives you a good foundation to build on but it doesn't go much beyond that. In my opinion that's a good thing given the book's target audience of fitness beginners. It gives you enough information to get started but it doesn't overwhelm you with data. Be aware that once you get into the program and have a better feel for your specific needs, you may find yourself seeking other books for more information but with the information you get from "Body for Life", you'll be able to make better selections of what type of books to look for. If you're already in good shape, chances are you already know everything that's in this book and if there is something you don't know, it won't be worth the price to find out.

Phillips owns a company which manufactures nutritional supplements. Not surprisingly he pushes the use of supplements in this book. There's nothing wrong with using supplements but they're expensive and not really necessary. They may accelerate the process but you'll still get into shape following the program without them.

Fitness is a lifelong commitment. Don't look at the title of the book and think you're going to get into perfect shape in only 12 weeks. Phillips' program is about using those 12 weeks to develop a fitness program you can stick to for the rest of your life. Ideally, when you finish one 12 week program you'll immediately begin another 12 week program and so on until it's not a 12 week program but a way of life.

If you're a fitness beginner and not certain where to begin or someone who's been working out for a little while but doesn't seem to be making any headway towards your fitness goals, this is the book for you. It offers good solid information on the basics of fitness and how to set and achieve your goals. I highly recommend this book.

Summary: You Too Can Change Your Body!
Review: "Body For Life" makes you think you too can change your body into something like the before and after photos on the book jacket. Bill Phillips' diet and excercise plan seems easy and manageable. It includes sample meals, schedules as well as pictures of proper excercising positions. There are charts to keep track of your excercise routines, eating for the day and week. The program is very easy to follow, if you are motivated.

The more enlightening and enlivening parts were the testimonials of several individiuals who took the information provided and became a slimmer, healthier and more fit version of themselves. When followed, Bill Phillips's program seems to stimulate self-acceptance, satisfaction and excitement about being alive. That's great!

The author asserts that "patterns of action" or habits, rule our lives. These patterns are those personal action chains we follow automatically - - that we don't think about or examine. By becoming aware of these action patterns (our self-defeating and dysfunctional behaviors) we can then have choice over how we approach our eating and body fitness level.

Unconscious patterns of action are not unlike the mechanical behaviors mentioned in the book "Working On Yourself Doesn't Work" by Ariel and Shya Kane. In this simple and easily read book the Kanes relate the principles of transformation, which apply to all aspects of life, including eating and fitness. By noticing, without judging our mechanical behaviors, we can respond appropriately in any situation e.g. how much we eat or how sedentary we are.

The Kane's book leads you down the path of self-awareness with humor and touching stories, which are used as examples. "Working On Yourself Doesn't Work" can be read over and over and you will discover more each time. Where Bill Phillips helps you transform your eating and fitness, the Kanes transform your entire life. They have mine.

Summary: Body for Life by Bill Phillips
Review: Bill, great book and wonderful foundation for the rest of your life. I was amazed at the number of people that were transformed by your words. The changes were dramatic and I wanted to jump on the bandwagon immediately. The reading is easy and very concise. In fact my son (he also lifts weights and very health consciencious, etc.) read the book one weekend while visiting from Austin, TX., he took the book home with him and has started the regiment for life. He calls every week and gives us a progress report. I'm amazed how easy this process is, not to say it doesn't take work. My entire family (4 total) are working toward this goal. I really enjoyed the pictures of the before and afters, this really helped me to visualize what can be. My thanks to Bill for writing such a wonderful book, that's truly become our 'bible for living'.

Summary: Only good for beginner
Review: This book covers everything a beginner needs to know. It provides lot of information about simple effective exercises and a little complicated "milk shake" diet. But if you are a "Muscle Media" magazine subscribers like me , you will find all the information in the book come from the magazine. Also, if you already know body building or weight training. You won't find the book useful.

Summary: Less is More!
Review: Let's be honest. Every one of us wants to look like somebody else. But seasons of failed programs, both diet and exercise regimens, have convinced most of us that we'll never do it--and we'll never hang on to whatever meager results we get.

So, I, like most of you will, approached this book and program with a healthy dose of skepticism--which was about the only healthy thing left in my life after thirty years or so of alternating between overeating and starving myself, between laying around all day, and frenetic exercise activity which wore me out.

One thing made me a believer, encountering a guy in my home town who had won a grand prize as a result of just twelve weeks of working the Body for Life regimen. So, I tried it. And here's what it did for me.

Transformed my cholesterol level in eight weeks from 200 to 133. Changed my body fat level in eight weeks from about 24% to 14.5%. Gave me an exercise program that is safe, not time-consuming, and that can be done at home with minimal equipment. And that exercise program has given me a body that is materially different from the one I started with.

Yeh, I know. All I've talked about is the plan--not the book. But the book is the plan, and the plan is the book. The book is well-written for the most part. (A few too many "you see" phrases in there for me)The exercise illustrations and the "tips" are absolutely excellent. Worth the price of the book by themselves. The stories of the changed lives are good too, though they all begin to sound alike after awhile. Read them and you'll find yourself in there somewhere.

A great read, a simple program (though certainly not easy) and tremendous results are in store for everyone who picks up the book, picks up themselves, and picks up the weights and gets to work.

Summary: Complete Fraud !
Review: This book seems so amazing, until you start reading the whole program. Bill Phillips RECOMMENDS using the Myoplex supplement, but it's a nutritional supplement that costs a lot of money. Anyone could achieve the same results with another training program using a similar nutritional supplement.

Summary: Sieze the day, and ignore the weather
Review: This book looks like a great strategy for achieving a great body, the easiest way to be succesful is find out how someone else has done something and copy it. After reading the reviews (before purchasing the book), I imagined this book to be 50% improving body and 50% selling the EAS product line. I read the book and was dissapointed, it is 98% improving body and 2% mentioning the product line. I am starting this program (08/14/2000), I look foreward to commenting on the results.

Summary: This book changed my life!
Review: Look....there are over 400 reviews on this book. They are either 5 stars or they are complainers! There is no way you can use this book, do what he says and not massively improve your body. I've been doing the program for seven weeks and this weekend my grade school buddies told me I was in the best shape of my life. They have known me since I was about ten and now I'm 33. I've gone from a 34 inch waste with 19% body fat to a 30inch waste with 9.5% body fat. It's the first time in twenty years I've been able to see results from my exercise. And the best part of this program is its easy! My workouts now take 20 minutes to 40 minutes max! I workout on the road because I no longer have an excuse not to workout for 20 minutes. The eating program takes effort, but you know what, you get in life what you put in. The supplements which I have been taking for the last seven weeks are awesome! I love them, and you know what they are expensive, but honestly, so is the junk food I use to buy before I read this book. Bottom line, this is not a fad program, its life changing. Go for it!
