Rating: Summary: Excellent book...easy to digest and gets you RESULTS! Review: I found this to be a very helpful and inspirational book. Bill Phillips sits you down and gives you a step-by-step system for achieving RESULTS. I like his easy-going style and the way he relays his knowledge to readers without overwhelming them. I actually read the book through twice, took meticulous notes, and then called his company EAS to drill the representatives on the different techniques presented. They were ALL very courteous and extremely helpful. Some even took the time to share their personal experiences with me regarding their weight loss or exercise routines. I was then led to the company website for further information, and received a couple of videos and books for my trouble. Not only that, I was told that I could call anytime with any type of question and there would be someone there to give me a detailed answer, or at least lead me in the right direction. Now for a novice like me, who needed the emotional as well as the technical support, this meant a lot.One last note: I am not a nutrition or fitness guru. I don't know all the players out there, but I have to say that I am really impressed with Bill Phillips. He is more than a trainer and corporate owner, he's a crusader. This guy is really into fitness, and he's really into people. I know that it is probably all a marketing strategy, but is a very effective one. This man is serious about your success. The people at EAS really make you feel like they care about you. I'm inclined to believe that they really do! Highly recommended. Cris
Rating: Summary: BE FORWARNED Review: Remember before you even think of buying this book that there are a few prerequisites before you can even think of getting started. 1.) The required excercises must be done in a gym. 2.) You need 20 minutes 3 days a week, and 45 minutes 3 days a week for the excercises. 3.) The program relies heavily on supplements which happen to be manufactured by the author's former employer. So besides the investment of the book (Which you don't even need because all the info is free on the web site for free), you need a gym membership and a budget for supplements. Be careful if you are a novice dieter or weightlifter--this is not for you.
Rating: Summary: A Wonderful Guide Review: If you're intent is to make a significant change in your life, specifically your health, then this is an excellent book to start with. A 12-week program is laid out for you, and the book is full of inspirational thoughts, healthy eating habits, and excerises. I bought the book not with the intent of following the 12-week program word for word, but in hopes of adopting small things that would ultimately lead to bigger changes. I have not been disappointed. The section on nutrition and eating habits has been the most helpful for me, and the mental pick-me-ups haven't hurt either. Buy the book with the intent to slowly assimilate yourself into a healthy lifestyle. You will find that exercise will become a catalyst for the rest of your life. I meet a different person each week that has adopted the BFL program, and haven't heard from one so far who has been disappointed. This is one of the best self-help books I've come across in a long time.
Rating: Summary: It really works! Review: I bought the book just before the beginning of September. I was 188 pounds, and looking like the typical couch potato. I am a biologist by degree, and what Bill said made sense to me based upon how I understood muscle physiology and nutrition. Sept 1 I started. The aerobics part was agony, but having been a runner in the past, I knew I no pain, no gain. By the end of October I had already gotten down to 165 pounds. Currently I'm around 160. I lost three inches on my waist. I bought all new trousers. The diet part is really intersting. I have an interest in cooking. The program has allowed me to be very creative while eating well and a variety of foods. In the beginning the meals were a bit time consuming to put together, but not any more. I usually prepare the protein and carbos in large amounts and portion them out every other day. Living in Hawaii has allowed me to be able to choose many different ethnic foods that are also very tasty and fit the needs of the diet. My friends couldn't get over my transformation, both physically and in other ways. I've had some amazing things happen emotionally. Maybe I was ready for a big change. All I know is that I'm a different person in many ways than I was last September. If you'd like to contact me for further info I'm at ..... Aloha, Joe Laszlo
Rating: Summary: About-Body of Work Review: Mr. Bill Phillips, Written: 26 January 2001 Sent: 6 February 2001 It's 2:30 in the morning and I decide to watch Body of Work, a motivational movie that my sister, the personal trainer, gave me. I don't know if it is the anxiety or insomnia, but I can't believe I feel this way. I have seen thousands of weight loss infomercials read a million "Body of Success" stories in magazines, but nothing made me believe that I can compete in a Ms. Olympia contest. My feelings were so strong after watching this video, I changed into my Bikini and set my camera on the timer to take a "before" picture. I was certain that my "after" picture would be such a distinguishing contrast, I would need to prove that I was unfit previously. The first time I saw Body of Work I was with my cousin. We attempted to gain some confidence to start exercising. At first, I said "Look at this guy, Bill." "He probably has been a body builder for 20 years." "He is going to try and tell us how to fitness train?" "Get Real!!" I would sit in my room watching television eating unhealthy foods and cry about how I am too fat to fit into my clothes or how fat I am to go out and have fun because I was too fat. Well, thank you Bill for not trying to tell us how to fitness train. Thank you for showing ten people whom adapted and overcame their present mortal status by fitness training. I know you have been working out for a long time and you do know a lot about fitness, however you didn't let the conceit of your knowledge take control of the issue. The issue being "Wake up and get your mind, body, and spirit into shape." About six months later after all the holidays have past and all the cookies were eaten I watched your video again. Wow, what a break through for me. I have been going to the gym for about a month and have not seen any results due to my unhealthy eating. My sister tried to help me, yet I am just not motivated. After seeing Body of Work I wanted to go to the gym immediately. I always thought that bodybuilding was a sport to build each part of the body to show off in front of a bunch of judges. I never even imagined that it could work on a person's spirit as well. I guess that is where the expression Mind, Body, and Soul came from. Your video proved that it is possible to grow in all areas expanding into visions waiting to sprout into goals. Body of Work portrayed ten finalists with personalities that shine through their muscular exteriors. That is what made the difference between this contest and other contests where artificial athletes bulk up rapidly for worldly pleasures. These ordinary people changed their way of living by primarily focusing on body construction then secondly confiding in themselves for other achievements. I guess my sister helped me after all. If she never gave me Body of Work I would never have this chance to think my mind, body, and spirit has an opportunity to work together and conform as one. I am still working on my physical build as I realize it will take some time. My goal now is to read Body of Life to keep boosting my confidence. I hope this letter reaches you or your staff. Thank you, Amy (an EAS supporter)
Rating: Summary: Things you should know Review: Well, I give props to Bill for being something of a fitness guru. He has managed to get himself into shape and inspire others to follow his lead. However, my beef stems from the misleading suggestion that his book offers any advice that differs from that which can be found for free on his web site. After dishing out [the money]...I expected to become privy to information not so readily available on the net. Once again I was mistaken. Now that is not to say anger pulses through my veins at this point. This review is a word to the wise. Follow the man's advice. Just follow it for free from his web site.
Rating: Summary: Bottom Line: Body for Life works if you work it Review: I did the 12 week Body for Life program in the last 3 months of last year. Just followed the regimen in the book. Results were incredible (enough so that I now believe the pictures are for real. You can seem mine and many others at leanandstrong.com) My waist size went from 38" to 32". And, unlike conventional dieting, I was never hungry. This book is in no sense a con job. It does minimally push EAS products, but it's easy to find substitutes for them (typically much cheaper) or to do the program without them (I still use nutritional shakes, bars and some supplements, but shop for price now). I give the program 5 stars, the book 4 stars. I do think Bill Phillips could spend less time in motivational rhetoric and more time explaining the quite sound scientific foundation for the program. I gained a great deal from the explanation at www.hussman.com/eas/ . There's a tremendous community of support and advice available, given the tens of thousands who have done the program. As for this year ... I'm basically just continuing the regimen, with a little more flexibility given the fact that I've met my goals (actually, now the 32" waist pants I bought in December are getting pretty loose!). Experiencing the fact that it works and is actually enjoyable makes it easy to integrate it into your life.
Rating: Summary: Fit for Life Review: Bought Bill Phillips book 6 months ago..It was one of the best things I have ever done for myself and my family. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to change their bad eating habits and develop a new body in the process. If you follow his plan to the T...I guarantee you will be all he says you can be. When I first told people I was doing this and how great I felt just a few short weeks into the program I kinda got a yea sure attitude but after the 12 weeks people started to ask me what I was doing to look so good..remember that book I told you about..Body For Life..well read it...was my answer..I am a 57 yr old female now weigh 120 lbs.and feel fantastic...my husband lost 40 lbs and looks 20 years younger..my daughter lost 15 lbs if you saw her 6 months ago you would not know it was her now..I now have my two sons 31 and 28 on it and half a dozen friends..I can't say enough about the formula Bill Phillips has come up with..it works..it just works..both on mind and body..awsome ...I feel better than I ever have..and this is not just me who feels this way... any of the people who are on this with me will tell you exactly the same thing..hurrah for you Bill.. you made my day...read the book ...it's a 5+.... but just don't read it... follow Bill's formula and I guarantee you will have that BODY FOR LIFE he talks about...rah rah rah for Bill Phillips
Rating: Summary: It works for me! Review: I read many of the reviews and realize this program is not for everybody and for many different reasons. Also, it became obvious, some of you didn't read the same book I did! I have tried many programs and tried to follow the advice and techniques I read in the Muscle mags only to lose interest because I didn't see any improvements. I am in week 7 of my second BFL program and can't wait to get to the gym on most days. In my first 12 weeks, I lost 9% bodyfat and gained 6 lb. of muscle and continue to improve each week. It was not difficult to adapt to the program. I eat more now than I ever did, but I eat all the right things (except on my free day). I don't consider it a diet because there are too many choices. The work-outs don't get boring because they only take about 4 hours a week to accomplish. The primary motivation for me are the results! I can see the change both in the mirror, on the scales and the comments from others in the gym. I didn't follow the book to the letter, I can't be that regimented. I scaled it to suit my needs, particularly the meals. I don't always eat six meals a day, I am not always in a situation where I can eat the right things but I don't stress about it. For me it is truly about "Body for Life", not "Body for 12 weeks". I do a Myoplex shake once a day, except on my free day, as one of my meals and nutrients. I have an occasional Myoplex nutrition bar as a convenience. I tried the Creatine but it didn't agree with my intestinal track, if you know what I mean. I had to laugh at those who accused Bill Phillips of fake "before and after" photos in his book and those who accused him of hustling his products. Maybe those photos are phony, and maybe all he is interested in is how much money he can make. So What! For me his program works and his book is a must read for those who want positive change in their lives.
Rating: Summary: Rent a Loudspeaker Review: And tell everyone you know about Body for Life. Recent news reports indicate what is obvious to anyone strolling the mall--Americans are seriously out of shape and dangerously overweight. My wife and I read this amazing book and started the regimen on Jan 1. 2001 (this was not a New Year's resolution but a lifestyle choice). Bill Phillips presents detailed information about resistance training, aerobics and nutrition in a way that either the novice or the "gym rat" can relate to. We learn to maximize time working out, to keep records using forms provided and how to make detailed plans for our diet and our workout routine. The components of the book are well presented, understandable and forcefully appeal to logic and common sense. While some may criticize the promotion of Phillips' supplement products, you can eat right and train effectively without using them (there are also plenty of competing alternatives and Phillips actually devotes very little time to discussing his products). Given the plethora of fad diets and a steady stream of "ab" devices being hawked on cable TV, it is hard to find something that not only educates but motivates. The latter aspect is the real key to this book's success. The inspirational tenor of the book is truly uplifting and constitutes its "high point". Even if the egocentric reader quibbles with some of Phillips' conclusions, no one can argue with the fact that Phillips'overall admonitions are true. Work out, eat right and feel great. This book is transforming bodies and lives. Health is more important than money. If Bill Phillips makes millions off supplements, let's be grateful that he is being rewarded for his dedication to capitalism and good health. This nation needs a wake-up call and Bill Phillips' book provides sound advice and guidance for those who want to overcome destructive habits. Readers of this book who elect not to eat right and exercise are decaying and dying by choice. The testimonials and the before and after photographs of people who committed to changing their lives demonstrates that Phillips knows what he's talking about. Most importantly, he challenges us to get with the program in a way that works. Read this book--it could save your life.
