Rating: Summary: All this thing is a lie Review: I've followed the program for three month and noticed almost no change. Don`t waste your time.
Rating: Summary: STRONG IN STRENGTH, BUT A LITTLE SHORT WINDED Review: This is a great book to read is you want to get your body jump-started into better health. The strength and weight-lifting portion of this book is excellent. The photography is great and you can't help, but be inspired by Bill Phillips. He is the picture of motivation and enthusiasm. His question and answer section is great, too. It thrashes so much of the mis-information that's out there. The author obviously knows his stuff. The only weak spots in this book is in the cardio-vascular and diet section. Not enough air time is given to the cardio-vascular part of health and the diet part is too rigid to be practical long term.
Rating: Summary: Proganda - Retouched Photos Review: Unbelievable! This book is the worst piece of propaganda that's out there. I couldn't believe the advice he was giving. In addition to that, the photos looked retouched!!! Not all the photos were retouched but there are some that have for sure been manipulated. I'm a computer graphics designer and I can recognize photos that have been retouched.
Rating: Summary: The best program out there Review: I truly believe in this program and would highly recommend it to anyone trying to build a better body. The great thing about the program is the way it changes the way you take care of yourself from the INSIDE - out. My husband and I did the program in 2000 and we saw incredible results. The personal stories inside the book are great motivators and the pictures speak for themselves. Get ready to feel and look better than you have in years!!
Rating: Summary: Great Program, But Not Perfect Review: I bought this book about 18 months ago after trying every possible fad diet on the market...Atkins Diet, the Zone...you name, I tried it, and failed! Seeing the before and after pictures in this book really inspired me, along with reading Bill Phillip's motivational style of writing. For my first 12 week challenge, I went to GNC and bought the Myoplex shakes and bars, and used a few EAS supplements (Betalean and Phen Free). The cost of these products is sky high, so I quickly learned to find cheaper protein shake mixes that contained similar ingredients. Personally, I think that is the biggest drawback of the book...at times, it slips into infomercial mode for the EAS Company. If you are entering the challenge for the prize money, then you are required to use EAS products throughout the 12 weeks. If you are like me, however, then you will find that generic brands work just as well (and keep in mind, eating REAL food is always better than using the protein shakes, but busy schedules sometimes prevent that). This program is best for people who are truly committed to making a difference in their life. Before this book, I did not lift weights. One year later, I couldn't imagine going a week without hitting the gym. Sticking with the program for 2 12-week challenges left me 40 pounds lighter with an entirely new physique and a whole different attitude about my health. It is not for people who want a quick fix for their waistline...but if you are truly ready to change your life, then read this book from cover to cover and take notes!
Rating: Summary: Find YOUR reasons to finish! Review: This book is more than just a workout book. I am not one to read "motivational" type books, but this is one area where I felt I needed to improve my life. Boy was I wrong in that thinking. The main thing I take away from this book is that if you set goals, and constantly try to achieve them, never settling, you will always be pleased with your life. I am on week 6 of my program, and I have lost most of my fat and have a much more defined physique, as noted by many friends! I quit smoking cigarettes after 10 years, and am doing my absolute best in school. Bill has showed me that you get back from life what you put in! The program is simple to follow, but it's much harder to be honest with yourself and ask, "Am I doing 110%?" Thank you Bill!
Rating: Summary: The pictures are NOT fake! Review: For anyone out there that think the before and after photos in this book are fake - THEY ARE NOT! How do I know? I am married to one of the champions. I saw first hand what an incredible transformation, both physically, mentally, and spiritually Body for Life and Bill Phillips is responsible for. Bill has given everyone the tools to better themselves in every way, it's just up to you if you choose to take them out of the tool box.
Rating: Summary: The best thing that's ever happened to me! Review: This book is terrific!!! I've personally completed the challenge three times and have gotten everything out of it that I put into it. And for everyone who gets all up tight about his "pushing" his products, does it make any sense that he would push the GNC brand? Come on, if you're afraid to really put your money where your mouth is, just say so! Hey, because of this book I ran a 1/2 marathon yesterday--something I wouldn't have been able to do a year ago, also something I would have never dreamed I'd even be able to accomplish. I have the t-shirt to prove it! If you want to be healthy in mind, spirit, and body, this book is for you. It's the total package, not a quick-fix. I'm living proof!
Rating: Summary: Good Advice - Can work - Testimonials lie Review: I did the whole program in this book and yes I got in great shape. I lost weight and felt 100 times better. However the people in the photos went from fat to muscular. I went from overweight to better shape. Not a 6 pack or bicep to be found. I was extremely disappointed and this caused me to really feel cheated. I think Bills promises to people are unrealistic and wish he would just concentrate on getting people in the best shape of their lives and not having fake pictures or testimonials with the book. also as many have noted here - once you are doing this it is all about pushing the products that his company sells. After comparing several different brands I chose UltraMet a brand I liked much better. I would suggest that people take the diet and exercise information from this book. Dump the supplements and don't even look at the fake before and after photos. Bill got his body from steroids - it is obvious from the Frankenstein forehead he has. He has nerve trying to pretend that HE got his body this way. He didn't. GO FOR IT! But be aware of the lie as well.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable Review: The reviews of this book are amazing. I can see most of the positive reviews, as this program has worked wonders for me. The negative reviews are the worst. First, this is not an all protien no carb diet. It is a higher protien than you are probably eating now and lots less carb than you are eating. It's a drink a lot more water diet. Supplements - he says take them to save time cooking and preparing meals, not that you have to take them. He hawks his brand - who cares, buy some other brand if that bothers you. His real message is that just by restricting your calorie intake, you won't keep the weight off. You will feel hungry and miserable and probably gain it all back and more when you give up on the diet. If you really want to lose weight you need to build muscle. His program helps you build muscle by lifting weights. Some of these reveiwer seem appalled that he would actually want you to reduce your intake of bad carbs(ie soda, donuts, cookies, ect.) increase your intake of protien and exercise. Time to exercise - the longest workout is 46 minutes. Dressing, working out and showering takes 65 minute. Oh my god, I have to miss West Wing so I can exercise, or some other equally worthless show. The cardio is 20 minutes, I am through completely in 35 minutes. Everyone has time for this, EVERYONE. Lets face it, if you follow just the exercise portion, you will lose fat. What you weigh doesn't matter. Your percentage of body fat should be your concern. Higher protien, lower carbs than you are currently eating won't kill you. You've been eating low protien high carb and you have gained weight steadily. Could this be any worse than what you are doing now?... It's easy and will work.
