Summary: JAMIE IS HOT!
Review: Once again I was taken back with Jamie and his adventures with Clair that were filled with their unbelievable romance that is beyond time. I found that it was once again beautifully written and found it hard to put down. I am now on the third and can't wait to read on of their timeless love. I think this book was good but not as good as the first one, but the incorperation of new characters was well done, even if I didn't care for the return of some.... *hint hint* READ! It is worth it.

Summary: I LOVE THIS BOOK
Review: This is the first of Diana's books that I read and I was completely and totally taken with her characters. The character studies are the strength of this book which appeals both to men and to women. If you can get past the time travel element and the modern day woman living in medievel times, you will be completely engrossed by the larger than life hero that will have you looking for him on every street you walk and the smart-.. woman who is the only woman who can handle a man like him. Incredible scenery (I made the trip to Scotland after reading this....) and very intense love scenes make it an all around winner.

Summary: I just kept reading and couldn't stop!!
Review: Okay, so "Outlander" was wonderful...I read it in about two days...I had bought "Dragonfly In Amber" and "Voyager" along with it so once I was finished with one I could start the next. Four days later and no sleep...I finished the three. I loved "outlander"...but this book grabbed me. I just could not put this down! Granted, there are some very graphic parts to these books, but, if you love the historical aspect and the descriptions of the times, you will fall in love. I laughed, I cried, I cringed, I sighed...I am in a full run to buy the next two!!

Summary: Finshed, finally...
Review: I don't know why, but the sheer size of Gabaldon books intimidate me:) I finally finished DRAGONFLY IN AMBER on vacation this summer, and I must say that it was a truly memorable car ride. I found myself sharing many of the occurances in the book with my family as I reacted outloud with joy, grief, and laughter.

This book is worth the time that it took to read it! I loved every page and have planned another vacation so I can read Voyager!

Read it, you will be very glad that you did!

Summary: Even Better Than the First
Review: Ok, to make a long story short, to recap the premise of this story, as this is Book 2. It follows the adventure of Claire, a 1940's post-war nurse who falls through the stones (like Stone Henge). There she meets up with Jamie Fraser and thus the adventure and romance begins. The author gets so detailed with their feelings for each other and Claire's thoughts all the way it was amazing. And they had SO many adventures, most of them life-threatening. This book picks up where the first one left off. It begins with Claire in 1968 heading back to Scotland with her grown daughter, to reveal the truth about what happened twenty years before, about Jamie, her life, and discovering events that happened after she had come back. This is briefly. It mostly continues the story of hers and Jamie's love affair and cumulates at the Battle at Culloden. It will then continue into what Claire learns about what REALLY happened after she had come back,...and what to do next. It was INCREDIBLE....I actually felt her emotions....and to say it is a page turner does not even do it justice. I have just started the next in the Series, VOYAGER. I just cannot put it down and I HIGHLY recommend it. But if you are looking for a plain old "girl meets boy, they fall in love, get married", this isn't for you. Besides, how boring is that? And it's been done a million times. This is time travel, adventure, love story, history lesson,...need I say more??

Summary: Wonderful follow-up
Review: I fell in love with Jamie Fraser in Outlander and ran out and bought all of the other books in the series that were availible at the time and I thought that Dragonfly in Amber was a wonderful follow-up to outlander. I laughed, I cried, I yelled and I fell in love all over again. I love books with strong heroines and Claire Randall Fraser fulfilled all of my expectations. Dragonfly in Amber also had awesome secondary characters including Claire and Jamie's daughter Brianna and her possible love interest Roger Wakefield (if you have read Outlander you might remember him as Revered Wakefield's adopted son.)
All in all I absolutely LOVE this book and would recommend it to anyone and everyone (along with it's predecessor and follow-ups)

Summary: Not a big fan.
Review: I muddled my way through the first book, but the second one completely lost me. I think that Gabaldon's details, while incredible, end up losing the story after a certain point. Too many time-skips and back and forth. I couldn't pick up the book and immediately follow it. I found Claire had lost a bit of her spark in the future, and her daughter was a vile creature. It frustrated me to have the story jump back and forth between the current future and the past. I was also disappointed that the story skips ahead 20 years into their lives. Why? Did nothing good happen for 20 years?

At any rate, I wasn't impressed. But again, I am a harsh critic of sequels. If you would like to continue in the series just because it's another book by the author dealing with the same characters, you'll probably like this.

If you want an independent, engaging story you can immediately sink into without having to re-read the first, I suggest you look elsewhere.

Summary: A Pale Follow-up
Review: This book was a pale follow-up to the compelling "Outlander". Way too wordy, the editors could've easily shaved off 100 pages by taking out repetative or unnecessary descriptions (note to author: sometimes less is more). The main characters are just as engaging as in the first novel, but what really seemed to bother me was that nearly all of the secondary characters were described using variations of "plump", "round", etc, etc. Does the author really beleive that she needs to make her main characters that much more attractive by surrounding them with larger people? I found this quite offensive. The vast majority of the book is predictable and drags along at much too slow a pace. The saving grace was the short third act of the book wherein they return to Scotland and the action picks up. All in all though, I was very disappointed.

Summary: THIS WAS MORE DIFFICULT FOR ME TO FOLLOW
Review: I tried a few years ago to read Outlander but couldn't get into it. I started again a copule of months ago and loved it. But Dragonfly In Amber was harder. I bogged down a lot more with the detail of the battles, who was against who, who was pretending to be against who, etc. I tended to get confused. Not saying this is the author's fault! But I did find this more difficult to get through. But I LOVE Claire, especially Jamie. Who wouldn't want a man so devoted!?!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I want to go to Scotland now.
Review: Her first book was great Outlander. I didn't realize that i was reading a "romantic novel". I enjoyed it so much i bought this second book and i plan to read the rest of the series. The characters are passionate and highly likeable. I'm a guy and i really enjoy these books of Ms.Gabaldon.
