Rating: Summary: Great book Review: Good in Bed is a terrific beach read. The characters are well developed and very relatable. While the book does take a slightly unbelievable turn midway through, it remains an emotion provoking look at the way we early 30-somethings feel about ourselves, our parents, our friends and of course our pets. I have enjoyed Jennifer Weiner's column in the Philadelphia Inquirer and was not at all disappointed in her transition to fiction. I highly recommend this book and I am looking forward to reading more from her.
Rating: Summary: Good Debut Review: The beginning of the book was a HOOT, PURE AND SIMIPLE. It was awesome. Then along comes Maxi. I don't find it so darn unusual that a woman with Cannie's position might not meet, befriend and become someone a star would want to share time with. Sure, it's unrealistic, maybe for someone like me, but not Cannie!!Because of her personality change mid-way through the story, I had very little sympathy for Cannie. I was a bit put out, and quickly tired of her whining about being down on her luck; becoming down on her self; and having a "poor me" attitude. I didn't feel that was her personality at all! That was not the Cannie I met when she first read the new issue of "Moxie". I for one was greatly relieved when she finally got out of her funk, and moved on. Cannie ultimately understands, that many times to make our lives memorable and worth living, we don't NEED anything other than what is already in front our noses!! The feelings that I had about Cannie and her crew highlight Ms. Weiner's ability to make us realize that we all go through rough times. Times when you must stand by someone you love - never giving up on them - even when you don't understand their motives or their feelings. Just hanging on with them until they finally grow "into" themselves. Thanks Ms. Weiner for the reminder, that must be why I "hung on" with Cannie until the end.
Rating: Summary: my review Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. Maybe it's not the most realisitc book but it is a great story. I couldn't put it down!
Rating: Summary: Will the Real Bridget Jones Please Stand Up?! Review: For everyone who thought that despite the fab accent and courage to gain a few, Renee Zellweger's Bridget Jones was not exactly a "large woman", has Jennifer Weiner got a heroine for you!!! Cannie is honest and funny and fat. And completely and utterly lovable, both by a best friend and that really hot doctor your mom imagined waiting for you at the end of the aisle... Cannie is strong but not unshakable, weak but not breakable - the real woman's woman and the real man's subconscious dream. Wake up, America. Cannie's here, she real and she's perfectly imperfect, just like you and me. Do not pass by Good In Bed unless you want to miss the next best thing!
Rating: Summary: A Delight Becomes a Disappointment Review: I was absoutely thrilled with the first few chapters of this book. I was smiling in delight at discovering such a character as Cammie, and enjoying reading about her life, her friends, her wonderful smart perspective on life. I started thinking that this was going to be my best read of the year. And then the book took an abrupt detour. Suddenly the book changed into something I'd read many times before, or seen in some cliched movie of the week. The delight of the first chapters became disappointment, maybe even more disappointing than if it had just been a mediocre book all along. This book could have been terrific, something special, and instead it was just another book about a character who finds fame and fortune but who really just wants to be a mom. The last chapters were so impersonal they could have been written about any character, and the unique voice from the early chapters wasn't there at all.
Rating: Summary: Pleasant Surprise Review: When I started the book, I thought it would be a light read - Bridget-Jones-ish. I was surprised to get so involved with the main character, Cannie, that I cried and laughed out loud many times. I couldn't put it down. I was so sad when the book ended. I certainly hope that Jennifer writes another - soon!
Rating: Summary: Good To Read In Bed ... Review: Good In Bed is definately a 5 star read ... From the moment I picked up the book until the time I put it down, I was completely drawn into Cannie's story ... She was real, honest and endearing ... the kind of character I like to read about. The cast of characters was dynamic, the relationships believable, and the outcome not one of those "time to end the book" endings ... all for which made for a satisfyingly good read. I am anxiously awaiting the next book by Jennifer Weirner ... (Any chance for a Cannie sequel?)
Rating: Summary: Good in Bed is not just good--it's Excellent!! Review: The title of this book and the cover art intrigued me. I picked it up and started reading and I was glad I had gotten it. The book starts out with the heroine, Cannie, getting some shocking news from a friend. Her ex-boyfriend, Bruce has taken a job with a women's magazine and is airing all their differences in print. Cannie was already struggling with self-image issues and a dysfunctional family, but seeing the article was enough to make her have more doubts about herself as a woman. This is a well written book describing how some larger women feel about themselves. It goes into accurate detail about the humiliation they feel when a man says "oh, I don't want to date you, I just want to be your friend", or when a man tells everyone that she was not the best person he'd ever gone out with. I could not put this book down. I found it quite irresistable. Yes, there may have been a few places that stretched reality, but the storyline overshadowed that. I highly recommend this to anyone to read and to share with their daughters
Rating: Summary: I love this book! Review: Good in Bed is a wonderful, emotional story that made me laugh, and cry for the entire last hour that it took me to finish it. I recommend it highly. I can't wait for the next book by Jennifer Weiner.
Rating: Summary: My new favorite book of all time!! Review: I just finished reading this book and oh my gosh!!! I laughed and I cried and I laughed and cried some more. Cannie is a woman we should all try to be. In a society so focused on size, Cannie learns (albeit the hard way) that there is much more to life than being a size 6. This is definitely a keeper of a book and one that every mom should read and share with their daughters. We need more books like this. I am eagerly awaiting Jennifer Weiner's next book. Go get the book and read it you'll see what I mean!
