Summary: I LOVE THIS BOOK!
Review: Jennifer Weiner is definitely a writer who's books I will look forward to. This book offers such a fun story with twists, turns and a little bit of fate. This book has so many layers to it, from complex family relationships, to getting over heartache, and to raising a child alone. This book touches on so many emotions of the human heart -- humor, sadness, laughter, and basically, just plain fun. I laughed, wiped tears and routed for Cannie from the beginning straight through to the end. I highly recommend this book for a quick, great read.

Summary: Best Book I've read this year!
Review: Jennifer Weiner has the most wonderful style of writing. The characters and dialogue had me rolling on the floor laughing and i just couldn't seem to put this book down. It is one of the best books i've read this year, well worth the money and I cannot wait till her next book comes out, I'll be the first in line to buy it!

Summary: What a great surprise
Review: I rented this book at the library and from the title never thought that I would find such a treasure. Lots of laughs, tears and surprises too. The writing is so well done. The thoughts and ideas come through clear and concise. Being one of those larger women I could so identify with Cannie. I have since purchased the book for my daughter and my sister. (I also bought one for myself so I can read it again)
Thank you Jennifer!..what next....

Summary: "Loving a larger woman..."
Review: I must admit that the cover and title made me curios enough to buy the book. (What happened to the "never judge a book by its' cover"?) The good thing is that I enjoyed it from page one. At page five I started recommending the book to my friends. I read the book in 50 page gulps at a time...

We meet Candice Shapiro, a 28-year old reporter working for Philadelphia Examiner. She has announced to her boyfriend of three years, Bruce Guberman, that she wants a break from their relationship. We enter the story as she has just received a phone call from her friend, Samantha, asking if she has read *the* article. The article her friend is talking about is Candice's ex-boyfriend, Bruce's, new column in the magazine "Moxie" - "Good in Bed". This month's subtitle: "Loving a larger woman". An article full of juicy, very private, details, referring to Candice as "C". The "black belted" version of Public humiliation! So, there she is, having a mental breakdown at work, while her obnoxious co-worker is staring at her, savouring each second of Candice's misery.

We follow Candice through the monthly humiliating articles that Bruce writes, the weight loss group sessions, the hunt to get Bruce back, and when that doesn't work, the struggle to get her life back on track, preparations for motherhood (of course she got pregnant after the only "quickie" she and Bruce had after breaking up).

This book has plenty of interesting characters; some are easier to identify with than others... My favourites are Candice's sister Lucy, and Tanya, the girlfriend of Candice's mother. (They are my favorites, although I have little in common with them..) Of course, Doctor K is sweet as well.

This book is an entertaining, easy read, and I must admit that I at times forgot at this was just fiction. The Hollywood part reminded me that it was... Having said that, this is a great story, sweet, tender, humorous, super funny - all that at the same time.

You could easily say this is just another "Bridget Jones Diary"-book. Heck, that's not important. I enjoyed that book too! *smile*

Highly recommended!

Summary: Jennifer, where are you when we need you? GREAT book...
Review: I read an uncorrected proof of GOOD IN BED and then purchased several for all my girlfriends. It is simply wonderful -- smart, funny, engrossing, and surprisingly poignant, based on the Come Hither bookjacket (which seems to be enticing, as the book is doing so well...) (...)

Summary: I couldn't put it down!
Review: Being a "larger" woman I immediately identified with Cannie and all her insecurities in love. And the development she goes through as an individual is fun to witness as she cries, laughs, and learns to open herself to love. This is a great book for any woman, no matter her size. And Dr. K is a definite dreamboat!

Summary: A good romp!
Review: Cannie is such a believable character, you will fall in love with her and her dog. I actually thought about that damn dog a lot! He just seems so funky and irrisistable. I usually can't stand reading about things that NEVER happen in real life, like Cannie meeting this movie star etc...but for some reason it WORKS in this book. This story will not leave you dissapointed.

Summary: Good Reading while in Bed...
Review: Yep, I loved it. I Laughed, and smiled, and felt like crying only when I read the part about the baby. I was happy when she finally came into self realization. I loved Dr K. I knew it I just knew it Yeah!!! The book was a big success with me Ha Ha. Loving a Larger Woman is what a lot of men should try,Damn don't them bones hurt? Ha Ha Like Cannie I'm built for comfort not speed. Yo read this book.

Summary: Not Impressed
Review: I decided to read this book based on the good reviews here. Sad to say, I was not impressed with this book. It's Jemima J meets I don't know who!! The story line seemed so hokey, predictable and unbelieveable to me. At times you want to knock some sense into Cannie for not having the self-confidence that I know is somewhere inside of her. Maybe I was disallusioned as I began reading the book...because I never expected to be so depressed about it after I was finished with it!

Summary: A Joy To Read
Review: I can't think of many books where I've really wished the main character were real, so I could get to know her, but this was definitely one! Cannie is such a fully-realized character, it's hard to believe she only exists on the pages of this book. High praise indeed for first-time author Jennifer Weiner.

The only reason I'm giving this book four stars instead of five is because some of the stuff that happens here is just TOO far-fetched, particularly (as many other readers have mentioned) Cannie's friendship with a movie star. Some of the Hollywood stuff made me cringe. It seemed a little too fairy tale/wish fulfillment for my tastes. At least Cannie didn't wind up having a torrid affair with the movie star she flirts with.

But there's much more to the book than that subplot, and the more "realistic" parts of the book are simply wonderful. The "diet doc" who falls for Cannie is so charming, and I thoroughly enjoyed many of the other supporting characters, particularly her dog Nifkin. As a dog lover myself, I am always happy to come across a good fictional portrait of a dog. The last 80 pages or so of the book had me in tears! I hope there's a sequel, because I think there's a lot more that could be explored, such as what happens with Cannie's screenplay, and I'd love to see more of her sister, too--she seemed like a particularly interesting & fun character.

This would be the perfect book to read on an airplane, or just anytime you need a pick-me-up. Good In Bed is good stuff.
