Rating: Summary: Great book Review: I really enjoyed this book. It was nice to read about places I know. I feel anyone can relate to this book. It made me laugh and it made me cry. Is it "chick fiction"? Yes, it is. But, Ms. Weiner gives chick fiction a whole new meaning with this book. I was unable to put it down and read it in less than a day. It is very gripping, so only read when you have several hours to spare. Just be sure to have a box of Kleenex handy. Cannie was very funny. The characters in this book are so well written it is like people you know. Do yourself a favor and read this book.
Rating: Summary: "Good In Bed" Review: All the negative reviews I have read that have scolded Weiner for using the word fat to easily. Everyone has weight issues in this unperfect world and this book makes you understand that. The beging of the book grapped me so tight I couldn't put it down or stop laughing for hours. The end of the book had me swearing out loud and crying. I get very borded with books and even though like two of the chapters where long to me I loved it. This book is a real look at life and the messed up paths some of us take. It is a mix of comedy and drama with paths no one expects. I think that everyone should stop bashing the book... Cinderla didn't have the most wounderful journey to happiness; no one does. If you are looking for a "I can't believe that she would..." or "Hell yea" then this is the book for you.
Rating: Summary: Who can't relate?! Review: This is a really quick, fun read. The character annoyed me a bit at the beginning because it seemed she kept making bad choices and I kept shouting "when will you learn?" Well, once she does learn, it's a lot more entertaining. The book takes you in many directions and such a range of emotions. Anyone who has flaws that they are concerned of be it weight, height or anything, you will be able to relate. This book helps you realize that who you are inside is what matters. Not to mention its such a fun read, you don't realize you learned a life lesson! ;-) Do recommend the read!
Rating: Summary: Good start horrible end Review: I loved the first half of this book- but the brutal ending and the road Cannie trods to redemption was completely unappealing and ugly. I do not want to read about a woman whose uterus is ripped apart by a fall on a bathroom floor after being shoved by her baby's fathers new love. This was distasteful, disturbing and did not flow with the warm and witty book that was developing prior to this. When I want to read disturbing fiction I read hard core mystery and detective novels where I expect to see the worst of human nature. I do not want this in what is billed as a romantic comedy with human growth. PASS! By the way the FAT girl is close to 6 feet tall and a size 16- that is not FAT! That is what Anna Nicole was when she was Playmate of the YEar!
Rating: Summary: Love this book Review: This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. Cannie's experiences are often hysterical as well as being quite touching. Ignore the reviewers that have said it is a dumb book. If you are looking for a book that you will be entertained by, one that will make you laugh and cry, this is the book for you! In Her Shoes, Jennifer Weiner's 2nd book is just as enjoyable as the first.
Rating: Summary: LOVED IT! Review: There wasn't a thing I didn't love about this book. Jenifer Weiner, please hurry with your 3rd book! Jennifer is a wonderful writer and I hope to one day write a book as good as Good in Bed. Unfortunately, some of the reviews gave this book the lowest ratings... I hope you have looked past the rating and are about to buy the book because you're missing out if you don't read it! Wow, do you need me to do publicity for you? : ) Keep up the GREAT work.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely amazing! Review: Never did I think I could so thoroughly enjoy a book like this. Most of the reading I do consists of suspense or historical fiction novels. As a plus size teenager I can very closely relate to many topics of this book. The characters are wonderful! I felt as if I'd known Cannie forever. Even though she was very judgmental and unforgiving at some points, her hilarious sense of humor and overall demeanor was something that I just couldn't pull away from. Jennifer Weiner does an outstanding job of making you feel as though you are part of the story. The first 10 pages had me completely pulled in. Against my will, I tried to span the reading out over several days in an attempt to savor and really appreciate the book. Now that I've finally finished I know I will be rereading this book for years to come and I recommend it to any woman who just needs something to help them escape.
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable! Review: I received this book from my boyfriend for Christmas; it was a surprising gift. I started reading it Christmas Eve and finished Christmas night. It was simply written; not amazing, but done well enough to hold me interest for the six hours of straight reading it took me to finish. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, and could easily to relate to all situations throughout the novel; even the extraordinary ones. It was a delightful read for me and I would reccommend it to anyone who likes reading books where the underdog comes out on top.
Rating: Summary: Not a toothpick read--anyone of realistic size will relate Review: This may not be the most challenging novel I have ever read, but it was by far the most relatable! In the not so distant past, I myself was a bit heavier than I would have liked to have been. I too had been called on it a few times. Since then I have shed several pounds and developed more of a self love than hate, but through this book I felt her pain and sadness. Anyone who can not see the artistic encouragement from this book has obviously never been overweight or cared much about those who were. I would hands down recommend this novel to anyone who has a heart and can feel pain, sadness, and compassion for others. I have never been so captured by a character and Jennifer Weiner is by far my new favorite author, not for her complexity, but for her reality and support of the natural human figure, whatever that may be.
Rating: Summary: WHY has this book received so much praise??? It's awful! Review: This book isn't even worth writing an in-depth review on, because its stupidity can be summed up in a few sentences. It's absolutely horrible! The writing is mediocre at best, the storyline is predictable, Cannie's character is shallow and whiney, and the whole scenario of, "girl writes screenplay, girl coincidentally meets the biggest actress in Hollywood and they become best friends, actress loves girl's screenplay, screenplay is bought and girl becomes filthy rich", is completely lame. Everything about "Good in Bed" was unbelievable. Don't be misled by other reviews saying the writing was "witty"...it was about as witty as my left foot. Was Jennifer Weiner trying to write a novel or a sitcom? Dumb, dumb, dumb. If you still feel the need to buy this book, be sure to get it used so you can save money.
