Rating: Summary: I feel like I wrote this book! Review: OK, how would you take it if your recent ex boyfriend got a job writing for a Cosmo-esque magazine and immediately printed a column entitled "Loving a Larger Woman," starring you? Yeah, me too.And that's how this novel begins. Poor Cannie. but she handsle that, and every other [event] that life throws at her, with dignity and grace. That's not to say that the bookis a downer, because for every thing that spirals out of control, something wonderful happens. I'm in such a happy place at the end of this novel. If you've ever had a weight problem, read this book. If you've never had a weight problem, read this book! You're going to love it!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful and funny Review: I was in the book store just browsing when i can across the The New York Times Bestsellers table and there i found "Good in Bed". I read the back and though well this sounds good so i bought it. I didn't get to the book right away because i was in the middle of reading the Harry Potter's series. So when i finished up with Harry i started to read "Good in Bed". Well, i was hooked from the first chapter. Her characters were so real, genuine and funny. The main character "Cannie" is so much like every women i know. Insecure but not weak. Sometimes sad but still funny. Strong but in need of support. I would recommend this book to anyone that sees life for what it is. Someone who enjoys a quick, funny good read. Someone that can stand outside themselves and laugh with the best intentions.
Rating: Summary: Witty writing style Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this book from beginning to end. It chronicles a single 28-year old single woman's struggle with her weight, her career, and her dating life. However, it's not as depressing as all that- Weiner has a great sense of humor which shines through in the heroine, Cannie. During the course of the novel, Cannie basically grows up, unexpectedly- but never leaves her sharp, quick-tongued self behind. However, Cannie's vulnerabilities are always just below the surface of her sarcasm, which makes her even more likeable. I will definitely recommend this book to all my girlfriends as a fast, funny read!
Rating: Summary: what a let down Review: I've been listening to this book to and from work. I am a thin woman, and from what I've read ...if this is the way large sized women think, it's no wonder they are always fighting the scale! It's pathetic! The main character in this book thinks that she is the only one that has to watch what she puts in her mouth, that thin woman are miraculously slender without any effort or self control on their part. By the way large size woman talk in books, and to our faces, most of them are bitter women who eat out of frustration and can't understand why they are miserable. When the character in this book found out she was pregnant and could not "possibly figure out how she could have let it slip her mind about birth control" After the author voices her unwanted opinion about pro-choice, the character asking God for divine intervention, I had enough, and threw the CD away.
Rating: Summary: Hard to put down Review: Wonderful story of a very likable Cannie. Although the story seem unbelievable at times, the author brought to light a real life, witty, intelligent person whom you could not help butlike. Her sad and somewhat tragic life did not seem so bad, by the way her witt and attitued towards herself and life in general came across. I could not put this book down, but I must say I was slightly diapointed three quaters through with what happened in the airport. This lighthearted funny novel grew sad at times but it all turn out ok, and the ending was beautiful.
Rating: Summary: Need a book cover Review: Excellent writing!!! Jenn is hilarious and witty. She is able to make you feel like you know Cannie. I enjoyed the 'happy ending'... didn't want the book to end though. However, it was a little embarassing to read on the 'El' to/from work-- men were giving me looks like 'ya baby, I wanna know if you are Good in Bed'; so I made a cover for it. Everyone I have loaned the book to also could not put it down.
Rating: Summary: It's okay to be plus-sized!! Review: Of course, I knew that already. It was truly refreshing to read a book with a plus-sized main character---and still plus-sized on the final page---who was okay with it. I recommend this book to everyone....but especially to my plus-sized sisters all over the world. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. :)
Rating: Summary: I Didn't Want It To End! Review: I fell in love with this book and the characters. I didn't want it to end. I felt like I was part of their lives and it was awesome. I loved Cannie and all her trials and tribulations made a fasitnating read. You have to buy this book...you won't be sorry.
Rating: Summary: Good Start, but Crashes in the End Review: Started out pretty good, but sort of fizzled out toward the end. I agree with another reviewer who wrote, "seemed to rush into a happy ending all of a sudden, and not a believable one." The lack of a solid ending really left me hanging -- I like to get closure with books.
Rating: Summary: 1 of my favorites! Review: I bought this book not really knowing what to expect. It turned out to be one of the best stories I've ever read. The main character, Cannie, made me take a step back and realize that not being a size 0 is not a bad thing. This book reminded me of Judy Blume's novel Forever-not just a great story, but a great love story and an enjoyable read. I highly recommend Good In Bed :)
