Summary: Good, easy to read, lacked a little action
Review: I am used to Grisham's action-packed stories that keep me guessing how the plot will turn. I read this one and enjoyed the story and even learned a little. But, because there was no real action and was pretty much depressing, I won't be recommending it to anyone looking for a good, powerful story. I think it's great that Grisham changed his style though. Good for him.

Review: I haven't read this one yet, but please don't let this book keep you from reading any others from Grisham. I have to request "A Time to Kill" that book to me was his best even over "The Firm". So please don't shut him out just yet.

Summary: One of the Best John Grisham Titles ever made...
Review: The Street Lawyer has so many twists and turns, you don't have any clue on what will happen next. First the guy is a lawyer in a really fancy smancy firm, next he's dealing with problems of the poor. It's a really fun book to read. If you want to know what happens in the end, read it for yourself because I'm not gonna ruin the surprise for you!

Summary: A SILVER BULLET THAT HITS THE SOUL!
Review: Being homeless is "not" entertaining! I have avoided reading John Grisham's novels simply because I felt, "Oh NO...another lawyer who still wants to make more money," then I got a copy of THE STREET LAWYER; and personally John, you nailed every capitalist on the continent!!! I read the low ratings on your book and the high ones and the "extreme" was quite amazing. You have written a "masterpiece" because you took your EGO out of your writing, and that's when writing becomes "literary." You have gained my respect! Carole Hemingway

Summary: Lukewarm Grisham
Review: Another piece of social commentary like The Chamber. Grisham doesn't believe in capital punishment and we should all quit our jobs to help the homeless. I wonder if he has ever worked with homeless people. It can be a lot more frustrating than it's portrayed in this book. I won't be buying any more Grisham in hardback, that's for sure.

Summary: Enjoyable, but doesn't pack a punch!
Review: The Street Lawyer is an enjoyable book with some noticeable flaws. Although the subject matter is admirable and unique as compared to Grisham's previous work, it lacks some of the suspense present in his earlier work. However, it is enjoyable, albeit a little implausible. Perhaps I am a skeptic, but I find it difficult to believe a lawyer would leave a job paying $120,000 a year to a job that pays $30,000 a year. That aside, the book itself was very entertaining, yet it was short on character development. Claire, the estranged wife, was little more than a cardboard cutout of the ambitious and heartless career driven female so present in today's entertainment. I find it interesting that Michael (the main charcater) pursues a relationship with someone who could be considered less than an equal in regards to earnings and job status. His estranged wife's career was one of high status and high future earnings. I wonder as to if this is a manisfestation of Grisham's feelings about women in the workforce. All that aside, I would recommend this book as a enjoyable yet moral tale. Although I have actually worked with the homeless earlier in my career, I found the book to be a wake up call of sorts to those of us that choose to treat the homeless as someone else's problem.

Summary: Good Insight into the Legal Profession
Review: I'm not sure how many people who wrote reviews are in the legal profession, but being a Law Student who is going into Public Interest Law the book brought out acurately what the profession is like. Public Interest lawyers work in conditions that Grisham acurately portrayed and the dichotomy that exists between Corporate/Commerical law practice and Public Sector law practice is diparaging, which Grisham also brings to light. This book is important for people to read in order to understand a profession that excites the public and at the same time alienates it.
