Rating: Summary: Forget What You Hear - This Works Review: I have lost over thirty pounds in three months. I go to the same restaurants I've always patronized, and I do almost everything that I've done in the past. One positive side effect the diet has had is that I've cut way down on drinking alcoholic beverages. Now the good news: the tight size 38 pants I had to wear when I bought the book are neatly boxed up and waiting to be dropped off at the GoodWill Center. Whenever I need to go anywhere now, I wear my 34's. Pretty soon though, I'll need 32's. I love the diet.I have one question. I read in another book that on a diet such as this one you do not need to count carbo's that are dietary fiber grams. Does anyone out there have any advice on this?
Rating: Summary: Quackery and pseudoscience at its best !!! Review: If you follow this diet you can be certain that you will lose weight. It is after all, a diet. You might as well just not eat--you'll lose weight that way too. The point is that there is a right way and a wrong way to try to gain control of your weight. This is one of the wrong ways. If you want to learn the right way I suggest the following text, used in introductory nutrition courses: "Nutrition : Concepts and Controversies" by Frances Sienkiewicz Sizer, Eleanor Noss Whitney.
Rating: Summary: In six months, I have lost 65 pounds! It WORKS! Review: I was introduced to Dr. Atkins' book in October, and I have followed the plan very carefully. Since then, I have lost sixty-five pounds. I started out at 310 pounds on a 5'6" frame. I have felt great and full of energy. My blood pressure and cholesterol levels have dropped significantly. I went from at size 28 to a size 20 so far. I also suffered from hypoglocemia, but I have not had a single symptom since I began the diet. The book is easy to read and understand, and the recipes are delicious. I have a long way to go, but finally I know that I can make it!
Rating: Summary: Diet book, No! It's a perscription for Health! Review: I can't believe this,,it is Saturday after noon April 17th 1999. On Tuesday afternoon a friend came over to tell me about the new diet she just started. She felt so possitive about this diet that she wanted to share it with me because she new I was feeling very very depressed about my weight for the last few months, like never before, and I did belong to a diet club. I said well it sounds good but this time I will read more about it before I commit...so I bought the book that afternoon..that night I decided to have a low carb dinner just for the heck of it, just in case I liked what I read I would prime myself. In the morning I ate a no carb breakfast and salad for lunch with ham..then finely I made time for the book.First I was so amazed to hear that carbs were poison to my body, that maybe my body was carb intolerant, just like people are lactose intolerant,,,that got me right away,,,,it was like you have a sickness and this is the answer. I was feeling good,,strong, lots of well power that day and I was so surprised I was not trying to resist urges to eat...Good I thought I am in a good frame of mind to start the diet if I decide. Well low and behold, the doctors book, says; and I may not say this right because I don't have the book with me right now but basicly it says he no longer believes in will power and emotional eating but that you are so satisfied with what you eat that you have no need to battle this out....Oh my gosh,,,I am satisfied, I am not having such a good day that I have will power..it's because I am so satisfied with what I ate. I read more and more and decided to start the diet in the morning...because my daughter walked through the door bringing me french fries and chicken (Kentucky Fried Chicken) and pop and donuts for dinner...I got up in the morning to weighed myself and I had lost two pounds...How shocked was I...Well that was thrusday Morning now this morning two days later I get up after truely following the diet and I lost 5 more pounds that is 7 in 4 days, two days not fully following.... I have never felt better,,,I now know what hungar and full fell like, and I don't crave foods...Praise God for Dr. Atkins. I am sure the weight won't come off this fast much longer but hey that is ok, great infact...I don't think even about food between meals and that is amazing...Thank you , Thank you, Dr Atkins.......
Rating: Summary: It really works! Review: I have been doing the Adkins diet for 7 mo. and have lost 55lbs. I am interested to know if anyone has tried his product to make bread? It is a bit expensive so please let me know if it is any good. A lot of the reviews mentioned people having back pain. I have also been experiencing that and am curious why. I take a multi-vit., chromium picolinate, and coenzyme Q. Am I missing something important? I am stuck in a rut. I havent been losing at all the last month or so. I am exercising 5-6 times a week with light weights and aerobics. Not sure what to do. Please write with suggestions.
Rating: Summary: It has been so easy! Review: Have started my new way of eating 3 weeks ago, feel great and lost 15 pounds thus far. I should have bought stock in weight watchers for as many times as I joined and didn't succeed. This has been so easy, went out for supper tonight, had steak and whitefish combo with a salad, how can a person feel deprived??? Monday I go for an annual physical, am anxious to see my blood work. Highly recommend this book, it may not be for everyone, but what if it is the one for you and you miss your chance because it didn't agree with someone else. I talked to someone who had a bad health experience with the diet, but had had 0 carbs for three and one half weeks. Dr. never said to have zero. Good luck to all
Rating: Summary: For those interested in losing... wait Review: Are you kidding? Let me give you the only tried and true method of losing weight without spending a dime: cut down on fats, skip all snacks, and get off your rear and start walking around. The only thing you'll be losing is money from your bank account if you follow Dr. Atkin's diet. This books is another amazing rip off of those psychologically distressed by how hard it is to lose weight. But you can do it and save a lot of bucks by rigorous attention to the 3 "S's" of dieting: No sweets, no snacks, and no seconds. Period.
Rating: Summary: So far, sooo good! Review: I'm a 34yr old wife, and mother of 2 teens. I weighed 113 lbs on my wedding day 16 yrs ago. My weight has skyrocketed all the way to 270 lbs. We were eating pasta, potatoes, breads, etc, ALL THE TIME - especially for the last 6 yrs. My hubby brought home the Atkin's book. We started on it 2 weeks ago. I had lost 5 lbs in 3 days, but then I gained it all back, because I had some carbos. Well, this Sunday 4-11-99, I started up again. I am not eating hardly any carbos (5-10 gr per day). I have lost 4 lbs so far. I have tried MANY "diets" and pills. I always got sick and irritable, headaches, etc. I would lose maybe 10 lbs and gain it back and gained more with it. So far with this new way of eating, I have not gotten ill or headaches, etc. I have felt good all week. I am not exhausted at all. I do get discouraged easily, but not this time. I have some friends who own a Health Food Store, and they have ALL lost a good amount of weight in only 1-2 months on this "diet". They look good, feel great, and their "memory" has come back. I also have had a problem with my lack of memory. So, I recommend this diet as a tool to get your health back in check. I look forward to being healthy and thin again. Rating: Summary: Finally dieting makes sense Review: i have been on the diet for one week and i have lost 12 lbs i follow it exactly as described in the book. i have had a head ache once i dont know if it was related to the diet or not but i dont crave carbohydrates. wish me luck.....
Rating: Summary: A must for anyone who has tried all the other diets!!!!!! Review: I am 49 years old, have always had a slight weight problem. However, when I re-married at 38, I also started eatng low fat foods and everything else that was supposed to be good for you. Well, to say the least I did not lose weight, but in fact gained over 64 pounds over the next 11 years. I also have high cholestral and developed high blood pressure in that same time period. I have tried every diet out there. Even tried Redux when it was on the market. This worked for a short period, however once off the pill, the weight came back, plus some. I recently had a doctors appointment in Feb., he advised me that I should buy Dr. Atkins book and try it. It took me another month before I finally did purchase it, and I started on March 3rd. In this time,(6 weeks) I have now lost 27 lbs. The first week, I did have very bad headaches. After the first week though, everything has been fine. I no longer go back to work after lunch and feel tired. I now have more energy then I can remember for a long time. I am not hungry, which has really surprised me as this is the first time I have ever dieted and can honestly say that its easy. I am able to pass up all the goodies at work and at home. Eating out takes a little longer picking out what to eat, but it can be done. The book has been a life saver for me. I just had a stress test this past Sat. and my doctors is pleased with the results. Mr. Atkins has written a book that anyone can follow. He does have a lot of medical in the book and at first I did not feel that he needed it all, however I have re-read the book again and have gained for all he has written about. I also bought the pocket size carb counter and keep it in my purse. I wish that I had bought this book years ago. It makes sense and IT WORKS!
